Epsilon Zero presents...

http://www.epsilonzero.com

NEWS

March Newsletter Released.
Vegetator Professional v.103 released!

New News! Vegetator Professional Trial Version (v1.01) is now on Download.com!

http://www.download.com/Vegetator-Professional/3000-6677_4-10776821.html

For anyone who did not register for the newsletter, I've decided to make this special deal open to the public:

http://www.epsilonzero.com/vegetatorpro/novspecial.htm

November's newsletter has been released! Take advantage of the special offer, you subscribers who didn't win the free copy, because the limited-time $10 off sale has just started!

New interface shot with tool-tips:

The newsletter has been released, along with version 1.02 of VP, and one lucky winner recieved a free copy of the program. It's not too late for you to enter, just sign up for the monthly newsletter by going to www.epsilonzero.com, click on "Vegetator Professional", and then scroll down and enter your email address in the box at the bottom of the page.

The update includes the following:

• Added the new and improved Drag Tool! With this
wonderful new device, you choose a plant and then
simply paint across the terrain! It’s a great tool for
creating smooth fields or patches of grass, and it
works on everything else as well.
• Added more plants and trees! Breathe new life into
your games.
• Created a new small application called VP Configure,
v1.00. This little tool will let you configure the VP
editor (as far as the display is concerned). You can,
as of this moment, choose a screen resolution and
color depth (16 or 32 bit). We hope to increase the
number of options in the future to allow a wide
Copyright 2007 Epsilon Zero

variety of other choices so that you can adjust your
work environment to what makes you most comfortable.
• Added tooltips to help new users get to know the
program faster.
• Increased the size of the ferns, bushes, and weeds so
that they fill in better.
• Added faster camera movement and object positioning
and scaling. Press and hold the ctrl key to move,
position, or scale slower and the shift key to do it
faster.
• Added a new export feature: the program now cleans up
the export folder when exporting a project, which
makes things easier for you.
• Increased the overall speed of the program.
• Greatly simplified the export project file code. Now
it is MUCH easier for you to get your VP maps into
your games.
• Fixed a collision error that calculated incorrect
terrain height levels using 3D model maps.
• Other minor fixes.

The demo is now available! Please check the website. Please scroll down this page for a list of the program controls. The demo contains a pre-made map which you can load and view.
The website has been moved to a more reliable location due to the number of orders, to ensure reliable file-downloads.
Version 1.01 of VP has been released, which addresses a couple issues with the program. To obtain this new version, please email suppor@epsilonzero.com using the email address you used to purchase the program.
The first official newsletter issue for August has been released! Purchasers of Vegetator Professional are given the option of subscribing to this for free. It contains tips, news of planned content for future updates, screenshots, and much more, all to help make sure that your experience with Vegetator Professional is both beneficial and enjoyable.

To clarify something about the terms of use:

The terms say that you can not distribute the plants in packs of media. As long as they are locked away INSIDE your game/program, and are not being distributed as a vegetation pack but are being used in the game/program as vegetation or whatever, then it is perfectly fine to do so, and such distribution is royalty free. We simply do not want people redistributing our media.

Introducing the latest development from Epsilon Zero, our flagship product Vegetator Professional! We are pleased to announce that development of this program is complete!

This new product was designed with the sole purpose of providing indie game creators such as yourself with a solution to the ever project-delaying problem in your games: how do I get realistic (both in quality and in price) nature scenes into my games? We just need to face it: most coders are coders; that is what they specialize in, what they do the best. It takes time and money to try to create realistic nature scenes the hard way, and programmers don't usually want to make this waste because they would rather focus on coding the project itself.

We have the solution to the problem. It's all right here! With Vegetator Professional, you can make these scenes with stunning and incredible ease. Simply click, and it's there! Using the VP tools, you can make a fully vegetated, life-like nature scene, ranging from lush forests to dry plains, in just a matter of seconds! Using the special "Field Tool", you can do this even faster, by filling in a large area automatically with just four clicks!

Features

Wind effects on plants.
A wide range of plants and trees, in all four seasons.
Easy to use tools that make vegetating a breeze!
Special code (available to copy into your projects) to show you how to load a map into your game.
Special code (available to copy into your projects) that optimizes the Vegetator Professional maps to the highest level of performance in your games.
Special code (available to copy into your projects) that applies the wind effects mentioned above, so that not only do you have the wind effects in your editor, you will also have them in your games!
Timer control on the wind effects to make them animate correctly, regardless of the framerate of the computer the project is being executed on.
Easy-to-change variables that alter many things, such as wind speed and plant view-distance, provided at the top of the code sample.
Much, much more!

And that's not all! We'll be adding more trees, more plants, more tools, more features, and lots more to future updates of Vegetator Professional. You can't lose!

To get your mouth watering, please take a look at these screenshots. Please note that these screenshots do not include the editor interface. There are many more screenshots with the interface visible, available on our website at http://www.epsilonzero.com:

Here's what a VP map might look like if you loaded it into your game and applied a bloom effect to it:

The demo is now available, and can be downloaded for free off the website.
Program controls:

Here is a list of all the keyboard controls used in Vegetator Professional:

TABKEY: Switches between build and select mode.
+ and -: Scales selected object.
Mouse wheel: rotates selected object.
"w", "a", "s", and "d": Move camera (must be in build mode).
Up, down, left, and right arrows: Move selected object.

Simply press tab to switch to Select Mode, choose a plant category and plant from the menu in the bottom right corner of the screen, and then press tab to switch back to Build Mode so that you can click on the scene to place the plants or trees. Special note: The Field Tool is a powerful tool that is used to create instant forests or other vegetation. To use it, simply click (in Select Mode) the tool button at the top of the screen (the button that looks like a wrench) so that the indicator says "Field Tool", and then press tab to switch to Build Mode. Note that the camera locks when you do this. This is to ensure that the field tool works properly. Left click to place a marker (the four markers surround the area that will be automatically filled in with your current plant selection). Right click to delete the last placed marker. It is recommended that you start in the top-left corner of the area you want to vegetate and then place the markers in a CLOCKWISE order until you have a box made up of four markers, one at each corner. EXAMPLE: Top-left corner: marker 1. Top-right corner: marker 2. Bottom-right corner: marker 3. Bottom-left corner: marker 4. The vegetation will automatically be filled in for you!

Note to trial version users: if you purchase the full version of Vegetator Professional, there are tutorials available in the monthly newsletter that teach you how to use the program very quickly. You can visit www.epsilonzero.com to order your copy today.

The full version is now available[/b], and you can order online via paypal and get your copy of Vegetator Professional by means of an electronic download. This means that you won't have to wait for the program to be shipped to your location.

Please visit our website to find out how you can place your order today:

http://www.epsilonzero.com

Note: VP is available through Epsilon Zero, an independent software publisher that is handling sales and distribution of VP.

Good luck with your project, and we hope that Vegetator Professional helps to make things a little easier for you when you get to those tough spots that always come up in game development!

Happy coding,
Epsilon Zero

Hi uncle sam.
Your product seem really interesting but I noticed on your website that there are no way to contact you per mail.
Can you give one, I'd like to contact you about something specific related to your software.

Bye.

In all honesty, you haven't really gone in depth about what it can do, just shown off some fancy plant and tree models, doesn't the program just scatter the models around a terrain?

Prove me wrong, not saying it doesn't look good, because it does, it just seems to do nothing but allow you to place the models over your terrain with a little more ease.

The screen shots are very impressive. I remember seeing the WIP for this, and from what I remember it seems like it'd be very useful.

You'll have to make the picture in your signature smaller, though.

Well, not sure why I did this, no pressure to use it as it only took a few minutes... I just think vectorized, transparent logos are much cleaner looking nowadays.

Just a tip; you can make your signature a link to your site by selecting the entire img code, and putting an href around it. Like so;

Thanks RUCCUS. I tried that before but strangly it did not work.

EDIT: Ah, I think it was because I put quotes around the link, because I thought it would work like standard HTML.

, now at any time I can change his signature by editing that post's image.

My plan is working...

To stay on topic, does the program's exported code recycle objects? Eg; objects 1 - 100 are positioned around you where plants are in your map, as you move, objects behind you are positioned in front of you, as new objects.

Yes indeed. The program uses the same objects over and over again. You could have the whole map thickly vegetated using the same few objects.

It's not my company, I'm selling the game through Epsilon Zero (i.e., they're selling it for me).

If you want I could ask them for proof of some kind, but either way, 100% positive that it's a real company.

What does it matter? The terms of use state that you can under no circumstances reuse/distribute the trees and such that comes with the vegitator in your own games and such. So you end up having to go out and buy your own trees or making them anyway.

Thats really the only thing that will keep me from spending money on this. As nice as it looks, if I cant use the media that comes with it, I don't see much point it using it.

Just to let the general public know, progress on version 1.02 is going well. Expect the free update (for purchasers) in September's newsletter. The update will include:

Drag-planting, which allows you to paint a plant across the terrain by simply dragging the mouse. This feature is already up and working in the update.
Improved interface (tooltips), which is complete as well.
Shortened and simplified export code.
Many more plants and trees.

Alright, as promised, the September newsletter has been released! The winner of the free copy has been notified via email. Version 1.02 has also been released, as promised. The list of updates is as follows:

• Added the new and improved Drag Tool! With this
wonderful new device, you choose a plant and then
simply paint across the terrain! It’s a great tool for
creating smooth fields or patches of grass, and it
works on everything else as well.
• Added more plants and trees! Breathe new life into
your games.
• Created a new small application called VP Configure,
v1.00. This little tool will let you configure the VP
editor (as far as the display is concerned). You can,
as of this moment, choose a screen resolution and
color depth (16 or 32 bit). We hope to increase the
number of options in the future to allow a wide

variety of other choices so that you can adjust your
work environment to what makes you most comfortable.
