I have begun work on my first game! I dont have alot done right now but i think everyone would like to hear about my project.

I have begun work on a Space/Exploration Sim called Age of Discovery where you command a ship and explore the galaxy with an open ended gameplay. You can fly and fight baddies, or just mine and gain power.

Progress:
Idea
Complete
In Progress

Menu System
Movement and Math
Figthing System
Artwork
Shaders
Planet Travel
Landing on planets
Multiplayer Trading
Custom Ship Paint job tool
Planet Designer

I will have more in depth coverage on http://www.malicegames.com/ and you can join the team if you can help.
Ill have screenshots of some ships soon (i am modeling them as we speak)

Sorry, going to be harsh. Hope it saves you some flames.

I think you're wrong. I think everyone would like to SEE your project or PLAY your project, but most people don't care about ideas without substantial proof of progress. You have none.

Why don't you wait with creating the WIP until you HAVE the screenshots? Unless you upload them quickly, this'll attract some flaming.

Read this and think closely about next time you post WIP:

Hey, I would personally love it if he did that - but I wonder why he doesn't wait those few hours with his post. It's something that I find extremely stupid seeing the quantity of flamers (and their heartmelting enthusiasm at what they do) around here.

Just, wait until you CAN show something. Now, I trust on Xeno to be correct so gimm3 d4 cod3 - uuuh screenz.

This here is the Corona Tug, its similar to the Tugboats of today but can move whole planets with its Ion Field emitter which uses millions of Ions to pull the object towards the ship like a lasso

I really don't think pulling planets out of their orbit is a good idea, plus I dislike the smoothing on the first one. Besides... well, hope to see more.

Well thats not the Tugs intended use its for moving debris and ships (planets are just showing how powerful it is) and what dont you like about the smoothing?

It's a personal thing. Tech doesn't look that smooth in my opinion. It can have SOME rounded edges, but you should see clear seperations of area's.

I like the concept of those Tugs.

I agree with rami, most tech shouldn't be smoothed or it'll look fake. Alien ships, though, could probably get away with it because they're, well, aliens. It's really the tug that doesn't need smoothing, the first looks fine.

That is not entirely true. There are people who like to hear the ideas people come up with, but this is not the correct board to post this. Posts such as this are completely ok but they should be posted in the Game Design Theory board.

If I understand correctly, GT is not "a board ( for kids ) to post up random idea's", this post would've been insufficient in GT as well. The description of the game matches 99% of all freeform space simulations. There is no theory or behind that, I'd say.

(Hey, please continue though, I like 99% of all freeform space simulations)

Good job so far, it looks interesting.
Just a few things:
a) The menu doesn't seem to work, all I see is "Resume" in the center of the screen, no upgrades, no mouse
b) I kind of get a bit dizzy when I spin the ship around, is that from changing the FOV?
c) You included a random picture of 3d bird

Keep the screen shots/demos coming

I'm working on a space game too, but I haven't gotten around to posting a WIP yet

The demo is good and this game is off to a great start! If you could add a few HUD's and GUI's to the main game play area, the game would look a lot better. Keep it up.

It's an good start, but please make a better menu. The first time I tried it, I could not even figure out how to end the game, so I had to use the ctrl + alt + delete method, which shouldn't be necessary. Then I read about that you use it by pressing the left and right key. Try to make so you see the other options, and make it clear how to navigate in it, otherwise people might get the same problem as me. And one thing more. How did you do the planet stretching effect (image added bellow)? Ohhh, and just one note on the controlls. The keyboard on your computer must be different from mine, because on my computer you speed up/down by pressing . and , and I guess that was wrong. One way to solve that would be with more freelancer style controls, but it's your choise. But it's still a good start. May need some pollishing, but it's after all just an WIP. Anyway, goodluck.

What there is seems to work solidly enough. I also had to ctrt alt del to quit. It seems a bit odd that the controls are all spaced out. If you grouped the controls like using w,a,s,d instead of a,d,<,>, the player wouldn't have to move their hands about. I guess there are going to be loads of controls so maybe this is a moot point, but you can have an extra few keys like space or ctrl accesible by thumbs for fire buttons and that.

i also ctrl alt delled out. the rolling needs to be fixed, it seems like only the camera is rolling, and the ship is attached to it. should be the other way around. Otherwise a decent start, keep up the work
