I just starded working on my second game, Parasite Quarantine, which is based on a low-budget movie with the same name, which I have directed and produced. My previous game project, Riga Mortis, was also tied to a movie, but it fell apart due to lack of interest (I had 4 levels ready when I went into production with the PQ movie, leaving very little time for making a game) and huge rewrites to the Riga Mortis movie which rendered the storyline of the game completely unrelated to the movie.

So, here I am again, making a movie-tie-in FPSC game, hopefully with better results this time

Parasite Quarantine
The story: In a military base, somewhere in southern finland, something has gone terribly wrong. After a group of soldiers are brought to base hospital from a training mission, the whole base blacks out. You wake up alone in a storage room. There is no-one around anymore. At least no-one alive...

The game contains FMV clips from the movie scattered throughout the gameplay, as well as soundclips and music from TR Productions (the movie production team) crew. The game does not follow the same characters as the movie, but instead focuses on a lone soldiers journey through the same base a few hours before.
(The movie teaser can be viewed at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnHNNQxy4M4 )

The gameplay and graphics are where I'm trying to make this feel diggerent than the other FPSC games. First thing is the size of levels and amount of objects. Too often in FPSC games rooms are large and object-sparse. In PQ, the levels are claustrophobic and really stacked with stuff I had to sacrifice the dynamic physics to achieve this, but it makes the levels look infinitely better. Second thing: the game is not a commercial project, so I really don't need to give a crap about standards in difficulty etc. I want this to be hardcore survival horror, really old-school. Make no mistake about it, this will be unforgiving little puppy, most of the time you'll end up running away from the enemies. Last, but not least, I'm making the levels as open-ended as possible. I'm aiming for System shock/Deus Ex styled gameplay, so every level has multiple routes and several possible ways to get to end. There's a ton of stuff to explore here.
I'm using mostly FPSC original media and free custom media gathered from the forums... I have no idea how to model stuff

And then for some screenshots... I know the coloured lighting is excessive, but I'm making the game true to the movie, and the movie has some outrageus lightwork.

PARASITE QUARANTINE DEMO ONLINE

It's 240mb, three levels, which are levels 6-9 in the final game.

Looks very cool. Although I didn't get to watch to teaser trailer because youtube has the need to tick me off and not load the website. And yes, I'm up to date and have a 2 YR. old computer.
I like the green lighting effects.

Keep it up. Want to see where this is going.

This game looks and sounds very promising. Screenshots show quite a bit of depth in the level design. The lighting came out well. I'll try and keep an eye on this.

Yay, I got the first level tweaked out and started making the second one today... Lightingwise etc. it's pretty similar to the first, but a lot more varied and larger. Again, I'm making it very open-ended with several puzzles and optional routes...
I also added triggers that allow player to read emails on computer terminals, thus moving the story forward with the messages. I'm considering also putting some voiceover, though I'm not quite sure about it...

Good work. I can't say that I've seen a game that uses mostly green lights.

Okay... Well, at least it's unique then
There will be levels with different colours etc. but since most of the movie was shot with green lighting, I want the game to look as similar as possible

It seems like a common thing to do at showcase to show people some of the level layout.

So, here's the layout of 1st floor of level 2 in Parasite Quarantine.

With the green lighting, I've noticed it makes the stock media not seem like the same stock media. I'd like to see the movie too.

No, the level you see in the layout is 3 floors. The one in the picture is the bottom floor...
Perfomance-wise that works surprisingly well, I have a medium-end computer ( I mostly use it for video editing, so the graphics card really sucks...) 95% of the time I have above-30fps. There are like 700 objects in the level... so the lightmapping really takes forever

Astek: Yeah, I noticed that too Makes the game look more original... The movie's coming out for download in a few months with finnish speech and english subtitles, so stay tuned for it

General powell: Just press Print screen-button on your keyboard (next to pause/break in european keyboards) and then paste the image to paint.

and one from the third level, which I'm working on right now...

I know the pictures are rather just "more the same" and don't really show the action, but gameplaywise, this one's starting to shape up the way I like it. It's very much survival horror adventure right now, and the enemies are really dangerous. There's not too much guns or ammo to go around so it takes thinking and some proper tactics to finish the levels.
The games's also getting really hardcore. The second level is no walk in the park (it took me 4 tries to get through the level, and that's pretty much, knowing that I know all the ins and outs of the level) and it's not gonna get any easier or less complex here. There's plenty of places to explore, but there's also danger around every corner

You should pop over to the level design forum (http://fpscleveldesign.invisionplus.net/) and show off your level maps there.

Search for "HellHouse" in Showcase.

I know you like it green but maybe tone down the green a tiny use the other button in the lights properties to look at a lot more colors which should help you. In the movie the lights use a brighter green,

Nickydude; I think I'll do that, thanks

Slayer222: I like other colors too In the movie teaser and screens it's brighter since the camera requires certain amount of light. In post-production we have made the colors stronger... hopefully we will able to show the final colour schemes in an upcoming trailer. As it is, the game's colour schemes match pretty much with the movies

Thanks for the comments
I've been stuck with the third level for a while now... Or I already have completed it but FPSC crashes when I try to test it... I'm gonna put the computer to build the first three levels into a game tonight so I can test all of them properly... Hopefully the glitch is in the test-mode only and not on the level itself...

Here's a couple of screenshots from the third level;
First, from a storage room.

Okay, It's been a while, but I finally was able to get rid of a bug that caused FPSC to crash every time I rendered levels 2 or 3 of Parasite Quarantine, and now I can continue with the game again
I've started working on level 4 now, which has some more "natural" lightmapping.

Here's some screenshots:

The idea is that when the player gets to the higher floors of the military base, the architechture gets more modern, and the lights get more "normal"... There will be A LOT more green lighting as well though
