How about you get over it?

Your game isn't anything revolutionary, and you're pretty new here, and "249 views and 21 comments" is pretty good. Make some custom media, and you'll get more comments.

...

I don't think so. It looks rather sloppy and thrown together, the lighting needs work, it looks like he's just using the default FPSC color lights without even messing with the color values, the shadows are messed, and it looks like he just threw a ton of entities into a room and called it a day.

Its funny. Its crappy without alot of entities in and with alot of entities its sloppy. And If I correct you don't need to mess around with colour values either You must use fpsc lights. Honestly do you really need custom media to make a game good? No. It takes imagination, think of FPSC as your canvas, imagine if you only have 2 colours Black and white, would a artist go out and buy more paint? No, he'll use his supply. And I must of said this millions of times "YOU DON'T NEED CUSTOM MEDIA TO MAKE A GREAT GAME!" I rest my case. And please don't take offense. As this is approving a point not having ago.

Oh and nice looking game.

What? What I meant is that the lights look like they don't come from the object because of the light color. In one of the shots, he has a hideous yellow coming from the candle, which wouldn't emit that color.

I've heard this a gajillion times, it's just that I've seen all this media before, in a ton of different games, and by that time, it just feels like different arrangements of the same things. If you put custom media in your game, it is so much better because it feels fresh and new. Do you think Fall of the Fireflies, Beyond Life, or Demon Sun would be as good if they used the same exact stuff that everyone else has?

That made no sense. You're acting as if custom media means nothing. And you can not tell me that a game that uses all stock and model packs is as good as a game with 100% custom media.

Actually he can, I don't want this to become flame bait but Robert D. Anderson ans the LOC used mostly stock media and look at it, it has gone commercial.

Personally, Inspire is right...

But of course, its not like when people make games with the stock media
that all of a sudden their games are bad...
Its just that, the objects arent that spectacular...
because almost everyone uses it..

What people would like is:
The use of lighting...
And the Level lay-out...(of course, also the story)

But thats it!
They can not say....
"Hey man, Great game! I really liked that room with all those barrels and such...if i can only make those objects/textures"

Instead they would say...
"Hey man, great game! I really liked that room with all those barrels and such...but i already created it for my game...
they almost look the same, how weird is that?"

Dude, your a noob and your doing this good.

This looks awesome, you said you can't come up with a story, if you'd like, I can come up with a pretty good one for you.
But I'd need to know what your doing with the game, like, is it a zombie game or, what. So yeah, I can help with the story a bit if your having trouble coming up with one.

Keep it up.

@Inspire - You seem to be a very critical guy. Doomsters game looks great and if you don't like it, remember he's only been here for like, not even a month. Also you've very critical about my game as well, just because of the name. It's kinda weird dude. And also, a bit rude, considering it's Doomsters first game, and so is mine, lighten up a bit. I know nobody is supposed to say a game here is great when it's not but you are a bit harsh.

The only reason I do that is when someone says that they need more comments, but then someone said that you don't need custom media, and it turned into an argument about that. Sorry if it came across as rude.

@Inspire- I'm also sorry for making a big deal out of it.

And I understand, it's important to be honest about peoples stuff because it helps that person improve.

I did think you were a tiny bit harsh on GOH, but I may have been wrong. Me and most of the others who have posted here and looked at this game like it but that doesn't mean that there isn't room for improvement. There are always things to improve on.

And I found it strange you kinda got weird about the name of MY game, but, not gonna talk about that here.

I shouldn't have gotten all weird about it. My apologies.

It looks ok. A lot of the entity colour's clash, but the lighting is nicely done in most shots.

I agree with everyone that has said you need custom media. Saying you can't model or texture isn't really a valid excuse, is it? I doubt there have been any game designers that just happened to have natural talent at photoshop or 3DS Max. I know programs like that cost a lot, but it's not hard to download the GIMP or Anim8or and start making some of your own content. My theory is that if you can't find the effort to learn to make your own custom media, how do you plan on finding the effort to finish a game?
This isn't a direct insult, it's just most of the games on this forum have been abandoned, and I can see how people can lose inspiration after seeing the same stock media over and over, not just us the audience, but you the maker.

@Who ever was arguing against good games needing stock media
Don't tell me Doom3, FEAR and COD would be such amazing titles if they all shared the same media bank. There are only so many ways you can rotate and place the stock mesh, it's nothing innovative to see.

Paul

P.S. Media from the forum hardly counts as 'custom'. It's the same as buying a model pack; everyone else can get it and it will appear in LOTS of games.
