*** RESERVE YOUR PLACE ONLINE! http://www.devink.co.uk/convention ***

2008 sees the return of The Game Creators' Official Convention. Last year was a great success, with a great turnout and fantastic presentations by the TGC team. The date this year is the weekend of the 11th and 12th October, with accommodation available from the Friday. The venue will once again be Hinsley Hall in Leeds, West Yorkshire. It proved to be an ideal spot with good amenities, and lively local nightlife. The bar provides a perfect venue for socialising and talking business with the team, and is exactly where many updates to the products were formulated and devised at the last convention.

Once again, this is your chance to meet the people behind the products and get a unique insight into the future of the company. The successes of last year will be built upon, as well as tailoring the weekend to the suggestions and feedback received.

The two options remain the same. You can take advantage of bed, breakfast, lunch, evening meal, tea/coffee and the convention as a package, with only your transportation to organise. You can also attend as a day delegate, which includes lunch, and morning/afternoon tea and coffee.

Convention Day Rate - £32.00 per day (£64.00)
Convention Attendance
Tea/Coffee/Biscuits throughout the day
2-course Buffet Lunch

Full Weekend Rate - £180
Convention Attendance
Tea/Coffee/Biscuits throughout the day
2-course Buffet Lunch
Accommodation (Friday/Saturday evenings).
3-course, self-service Evening Meal (Friday/Saturday)
Breakfast (Saturday/Sunday Morning)

Most of the accommodation is en-suite, but it is advisable to book early to guarantee your room. Other parties will also be using the facilities and booking rooms.

You can download the booking form here, and return it with a small deposit to reserve your place. We are very excited about this event, and hope that you will take advantage of this unique opportunity.

Sure why not. It is the way to go. I have seen the future of computer cooling systems.

I am attending numerous conventions this year to preach this idea and you will soon see me on dragons den.

There will be a complete ban on pea-based discussions this year. Please be innovative in your selection of vegetables, points will be awarded for multi-coloured options.

Every time somebody mentions one of the bizarre conversations that took place, my need for the next convention increases.

I'm guessing it's 5 beers so far? Mneominix, El Goorf, Mson, IanM, me.

You guess wrong young BatVink, try again. I did mention that I'd be there ... right?

So, using a system similar to last years, I believe one vodka = 5 beers

Looking forward to Mson getting the first 12 rounds in

I don't think we can have a convention thread without at least mentioning Nick who hosted the four unofficial events in Chichester to which I went to 3 of. So cheers Nick.

As for beer, I think we wil need a bottle emoticon to represent the rush of attendees that is about to come...

Hey great idea!

I think I'll go as a coder visiting a convention looking to socialise, get some ideas and tips, maybe help out a little, and get lightly and pleasantly inebriated ... but not necessarily in that order.

What are the rest of you going to go as?

Committed? That doesn't involve the white 'jumper' with the really long sleeves does it? Again?

But blimey - a whole week for it to get to you? British post isn't what it used to be.

Robert Mugabe!

In all seriousness, that is only a few short days from my birthday (Oct 16th *hint hint*) so I may attend, any excuse for drinking + cake. My coding isn't up to scratch anymore (to be fair it never was) so anything to do with that would most likely be over my head but hey, that problem can be solved with drink!

IF I attend (and that is a big IF, depending on what I am doing closer to the time) I would gladly give anybody in the near-York area a lift in exchange for navigation/conversation on the way, it's not a million miles but I'm sure I can get lost and I'll be buggered if I'm stopping to ask for directions!

p.s. I'm talking the full weekend here. Hardcore!

How about coming dressed up as Lee Bamber - best impersonation gets a prize! You'd need to perfect the Lancashire accent too.

Under 16's have to be accompanied, there is nobody there that can take responsibility for minors.

That sounds a bit unfair! Lee has a 'small' advantage.

I thought about suggesting we come as our avatar characters but I don't want to see Philip in a shirt and collar with no pants

Lee and Rick will be attending (confirmed). So read that whichever way you like - you have the real things to compare your fancy-dress with, or you can give up knowing that you can't be better than the real thing

All things going to plan, another "secret project" will be revealed at the convention. My guess on this one is that the worst-case scenario is that we all get to see it and Rick spends the evening before furiously writing up the NDA - again!

I suppose its a sensible limit but that means I can't go.
Well it would be £64 for one day
Which to me is HUGE. Its 6 months+ savings!

I alaways wanted to see what it would be like!

The fees are exactly what it costs per person for the venue etc, so unfortunately nothing can be done to change it.

No NDAs this time. So far anyway!

BTW, Dave the Ravey (secret project man) will be attending and so will Paul Johnston (Dark AI, Dark Lights, Dark Shader, Ragdoll and Game Creator Store)!

Richard Davey will also attend.

I'm not too sure at the moment about getting there as car problems may result in me having no money

But I suppose I should book and just find a way of getting there.

Anybody who can get to London Euston can get to Leeds for less than £20 return by train and coach.

Virgin Trains offer cheap fares to Manchester of between £7 and £9 each way, then you can take advantage of national express coach funfares which can take you from Manchester to Leeds ad back for as little as £1 each way.

Just thought I would throw that out in case anybody is having transport difficulties. If anybody else is coming from a different part of the country and is having difficulties organising transport then tell us about it and I shall have a look.
