Then it happened. All in one Meat Factory, a new disease has come, a disease that threatens to take over the earth.

What do you mean by dim? As in plain and boring?

No, by unrealisticly dim, he means its too dark, it's as if you can't see anything, like as if your going to walk into a box not knowing its there...
Brighten up the enviroment or add some little more numbers onto the lights range, not 100, but probably 25-75.

Actually the smallest range I have is 75, the rest are bigger. Its just the hex codes im using, they are a bit dark. I got them from COZ along time ago. People always tell him its to dark to. So maybe that's why. They are really good codes though.

New screens look awesome Robert!

He makes a valid point, however if you are in fact planning to change the lighting, make sure it's not too drastic.
I think merely a slight increase would be perfect!
Because you still of course want to keep the grim, dark, erie feel of the game.

Hope to see more soon

New Screen!

Updates:

Edited and Messed around with Level 1, added a few rooms and get rid of a few things. Really bad news though, my test game takes about 20 minutes to load. Like a REAL 20 minutes. It slows down when its calculating the light for all the objects.

I like the last screen the most Robert. By the way, do yourself
a favor and add illuminate effects to those lights.

Ahh, there is like 100 in the first level. It will take me so long. I suppose it will make it look better so I will get working. You probably wont see any updates from me for a while. I want to finish my puzzle comp. entry. After the winners are announced I will work on this again.

That's harsh to hear man, game looks incredible still though.

So you don't think there would be a way of reducing the sheer amounts of lights, without affecting the overall look and feel that you've perfected already...?

Well im going to try. I think I will at least be able to get rid of at least `15 lights. That should help it pretty good.

You could try altering the lightmap quality in buildsetup.ini because it looks quite high now, and you'll save on loading time if you reduce it.

Also, I'd build-game it and test out the loading times of the compiled level. It may not actually take that long to load since the lightmaps will be "ready-made"

Great work so far!

What do you think is a good number to put it at? I know it also has to do with my graphics card a little bit. I only have a Geforce 8400.

Well, for test games, I guess you could have your light map size at 1024 and your quality at maybe 20-40. You might want to play around with these values and see which one you'd ideally like to have in the final build, then perhaps half it, and use that value for your test games.

Robert F,

Really love the last screen shot. The only thing I would change is the ceiling.

Best.

How about a wood ceiling?

I changed the light quality to 25, it was at 100. lol
It still takes about 5 minutes to load. My plan now is to have less lights but make the ranges bigger.

Edit: I just changed it a little bit, now its at 3:56 seconds to load the first level. Thats a pretty good start. I think I can bet it down to about 2:00 minutes though.

Sounds good. It's just that you have a floor for a ceiling. If they just weren't the same it would look better.

Best.

Thanks, its quite tough to do a ww2 game, unless the whole thing is going to be inside and not outside. Its really hard to make a good outside scene. Its possible but really hard. That's why you don't see to many of them on the forums.

Im working on a ww2 game, its not easy. If you want to do an outside level, collect one hell of a lot of trees and place them around the outline, but still it won't look amazing... Try avoiding outside levels
