It's about time I started this WIP.

Lifeless is the project I have experimented with since I purchased FPSC all those years ago. I suppose I'm now happy enough with the style to share it with the forum.

Things to bear in mind about this project:
-I don't believe in the shader fairy. This is a project made in X9 and designed for any computer that can run FPSC, including those that just scrape the minimum requirements. No shaders, no mods.
-Any work you see in my screens belongs to either myself, or TGC. Whilst there is such an abundance of great media on the forum and in the store, I am a dedicated DIY kind of guy, and prefer to make almost all of my media from scratch.
-No zombies, no mutants, no biological weapons and no viruses. I'm trying to create something original and fresh when it comes to the horror genre in FPSC, and you will see for yourself when I release some enemy footage

See me in the light,
Paul

Looks perfect!

RobertF, there exist places that aren't full of barrels and shtuff, so chill out and appreciate how nice the screens are.

Most of the areas are inspired by photographs from abandoned buildings, I'm not the kind to put barrels and crates in places just for the sake of it. Each part of the level is designed to be something interesting to look at, I'm avoiding "fillers" at all costs.

You could say the environments are designed for the enemies to stand out

Thankyou everyone else for the kind words.

Finally you start this thread Paul! These are one of the best screenshots I've ever seen on FPSC. I'll keep an eye on this thread

PS. Can you tell us a bit about the story? Because three things make a great game in my books: Story, gameplay and framerate, and I'm pretty sure that Lifeless has a great gameplay and framerate.

Indeed! it looks awesome!, but for some reason, I can't stop feeling slightly worried about the Framerate. I remember seeing in (the same) shots I got sent over MSN that the FPS is 19 or 24 in the shots.

If the frame rate was anything less than 25, photoshop will be running too Frame rate is one of the main priorities of the project, I want it to be playable for everyone, even those on minimum specs like myself, not just those who work for NASA.

Storyline will come soon, I'll explain some basics hopefully in the next week or so, however I need to bash out some quick concept sketches with my tablet to get the idea across for you all.

Paul,

Amazing atmosphere! I don't know what the game is about, but I'm already freaked out. It's just more proof that, in the right hands, this tool is capable of great things.

Best.

you know when i spent so long looking at those old screens from the origional Wip i was blown away, but this is so incredible will there be a demo, will you use the same enemies, right now it looks awsome aand very similar to Penumbra which was awsome i think that this'll exceed my prior expectations of the origional Wip

looking forward to any updates

Thankyou for all the kind words.

@Mazz426
Nice to see someone remembers the project's earlier days. Oddly enough the enemies are the things which have completely changed, I'm heading for what you might call a unique direction with the enemy design in this game. Can't give you an expected date for the demo, but there will be one

Cheers,
Paul

Looks interesting, nice to see someone who is able to create a nice looking Game without Shaders and all that Performance-Killers.

The Level-Design looks good also, tough it could use some overlays in certain Areas.

Great job, loving the Atmosphere in the Shots, and I'm waiting to see some of the Enemys.

Keep it up!

I don't see any light rays??

Edit: Nvm, do you mean off of the light? I am pretty sure its part of the model.

"

That's the point Thought it would be more intriguing to have something really subtle and faint, than a large obnoxious advertisement after each of my posts.

I'm assuming ASTEK was making a general comment, not addressing anyone in particular. Thankyou ASTEK, nice to hear.

Thanks also to Keith, BVG and Seth for the kind comments, it's very encouraging that so many people like this

@Mazz426, it's a bit of an unusual process to get the gradient working, and it's specific to the location and type of light you're using. I don't really want to turn this thread into a tutorial, but I'd be glad to point you in the right direction if you pop me an email

I'll see what I can do but no promises. It's still an iffy process with a few bugs (enemies for example still treat it like an object with collision on), so the method of getting it to work isn't finished yet

Sorry for the slight lack of updates, I'm still ironing out the storyline to share wtih you, and working on some HUD and animation pieces.

Best,
Paul

you could use the tool that comes with the tgc store for making parts of models collision free.
