Update July 3rd

I've scrapped KK2...I've remade the engine twice and for some reason I keep getting strange errors. So I'm putting it on the backburner for now.

I thought some peps would benefit from the graphics. You could easily create an entire game from this:

Enjoy!

UPDATE

May 27, 2009

Updated Features:
-Complete graphics overhaul
-Complete engine overhaul
-new backdrop locations

UPDATE SCREENSHOT:

Well I've been working on the second game in my retro trilogy series named: Kuuhaku Kyuushuu (Space Revenge).

This time I've gone for the side view camera. I have multiple enemy types, new graphics and music. There will be 4 levels in total, with the last one being the main boss fight.

I'm hoping to finish this by the end of the week so I can start on the third and final installment.

Demo included, kinda big, but I made all the media before I even started the game. Includes menu and first level..with no end. Still working on that.

Old Screenshots:

Enjoy!

Edit: Won't let me upload the demo, I'll try again later.

Alright, fixed a bunch of stuff.

Then the updated game exe is attached. Just have to copy the exe file into the main game folder to use it. Now you can play through the first three levels up to the boss stage. Though right now because of a bug, the enemies don't fire back :S

I might just redo the whole game. I have most of the functions created, so I can just copy those over. I don't really like how I did the enemy spawn, kinda sloppy, so that might be the problem with the enemy shooting code.

Only a days work, not too much to worry.

lol i played it for a good while expecting a boss, dunno why cause u even said it's an endless level . only suggestion i would have is to have the spaceships a bit smaller, cause i'm on a 40 inch t.v. and they seem like giant ships xD.

look forward to seeing progress, I'm a big fan of the retro games.

Lol! Did you update the main 'exe'? It's attached in my last post. That will let you play through the first 3 levels. Also I already made the play area much bigger, the final boss has a 'mega cannon' attack and it was too easy to get caught in the beam.

Right now I'm working on a new 'level creation' system, to better manage enemy spawns and AI. I should be done in a few days.

I luvs da RETRO!

First levels are a bit easy. You can kill everything just by moving up and down and firing. You can beat it with your eyes closed. At level 3, things get more interesting with the heavily armoured enemy ships. I wanted to fight the boss, but at the third "incoming: next wave", when the music starts, it went into super slowdown mode, running at about 4spf - seconds per frame! Curiously, in my taskbar panel next to the clock - where it shows that my antivirus is running etc, there are 5 entries for "ffdshow audio decoder". Not sure what's going on here. At a guess it's something to do with playing the music at that point. Ran nice and smooth up to that point though! BTW i have been playing the game whilst writing this. The enemy has got about halfway across the screen in about 10 minutes!

That's strange. The songs are downloaded directly from NGX's music site. I got that same error as well and I can't figure out why it's doing it. It just goes...very...very...slow.

Anyway, I plan on adding weapons to the enemies to make it harder, and I've added flight paths to my new editor. Should make for some better gameplay.

ffdshow is a video/audio codec. It sucks CPU like it's gonna be gone tommorrow. In other words, get rid of it.

Ah, ignore that old demo, I'll be uploading a new one tonight once I've refined the enemy AI. The new version has only three levels that your ship 'warps' between different areas. The one in the shot is earth. Next level will be the inner belt, and the last one will be just outside our solar system.

The last part is the epic boss fight, which I plan on making a bit difficult for kicks.

Also if you didn't notice, your ship now has a hull and shield meter. The shield slowly recharges if not hit after a while, though the hull is your final level of protection. You start with three lives, so It gives you a good fighting chance.

Still lots I want to do before it's complete.
