Platformer game reviews

Engines allowed: All

Game compressed must be 45mb max

Media can be made whenever as long as you made it your self or got permisson

If this turns out successful then I'll set up more compos with a different theme each time
Basic rules:
Game must be made for compo
Game must be a platformer
No using Copyrighted media unless you've got permisson
Game must be suitable for all ages (No pr0n e.t.c)
Sponsosrs will have access to modify code (Sorry but this is how i'm getting the bigger prize)
EXternal dlls are allowed as long as they are supplyed
no need to provide source code, but it is encouraged to (Extra points )
game must display a splash screen at beginning for at least 5sec
Game must remain freeware

Current prize list
Limited edition Ultimate dbp Resource round up and an early beta of whiteknuckle + if it sells a free copy of the complete game(Submitted by me )
2 3DMapEditor's licence's (Thanks Freddix)(Added to 1st, 2nd,3rd place prizes with whatever else)
CR'S CAT LOL!(Unoffical (Still not confirmed))


You must provide an exe and if you want it can be open source so others can learn from it

Deadline:
3 months time (11pm gmt)

Prizes still be added as it runs along

(I could export it as .exe as a projector file)

Yea that's allowed just make sure you remeber the one judges rate the highest of the 2 go into the compo

Time for WIPS...

Early screenies, as I am using Torque, the only coding I need to do are scripts.

Current Scripts:
-Item recieve
-If you have all items, level ends
-Enemie AI
-Rocket Launcher shoots
-Items hud script
Needed Scripts:
-Enemie die
-Character die - Game Over scenario
-Enemy hurts character
-Huds, possibly a message box with the status of the game, like on MMORPGs

Current Main GUI
-Options (Open GL or Direct X, screen size, sound, depth)
-Quit
-Choose level to play
Need to do
-Splash screens (Contest, GarageGames, Seppuku Arts)
Levels:
-First level in progress
Media-
None, nil, none what so ever.

Early WIP Screens:
Firing his rocket launcher

Strike that. I've just begun "Gold Madness Realm." For now it's mostly a secret. Something along the lines of a darker "Super Mario World" where you play a scientifically-messed-up monkey.

I've got one of the menu screens (the background) up. When the game loads it picks from one of 8 random backgrounds. This one's my favorite.

Sorry, I forgot. It's a background for the menu anyway. What do you mean splash screen anyway? Do you mean like once the user double clicks the .exe then the splash screen comes before the main, fullscreen window opens? I wouldn't know how to do that in DBC...

if your game is based off other games or well just tell me if this is legal

like remake some of the classic games(mario, pacman,donkey kong) but instead of you being the normal character, your the enemies and have to try to keep him from winning

edit:
what about a gameboy advance game? and then submitting the rom and an emulator?

I would enter, being a massive fan of platformers and having tons of code already mode to base a brand new engine off of, but I'm doing some secret stuff right now, and don't plan on entering any compos til the tgc one if it interests me.

No, Three Score, my game is not based off other games. I was stating an example (yes, people do that). I don't do remakes unless it's my own game.

No that is for media ingame like models and sounds etc. That is a splash screen therefor is allowed.

I've only played it on the DS and it is pretty good.

Yes, in my opinion Shunshine sucked. It went against much of what I love about mario. I'm really glad that Galaxy is looking so awesome.

Progress:
Scripts - Nearly there
Media - Don't be silly!
Levels - I had a problem, but it should be sorted now, I just need to start rebuilding
Menus - I've nearly done them, I just need to figure out some code for the window for level selecting.
Enemies - I'm going for a more treasure hunter sort of thing, there will be a 'golden' treasure well hidden and guarded, you can shoot them, but they are going to be in hard to shoot places.

As for a level number, I'm just going to see how many I get done before it ends.

Just had an idea why not do like body damage sort of thing it varys depending where you shoot them?

Don't think so, I only just started with Torque, don't expect anything like that yet (And as he has a rocket launcher equipped, either way the enemy is going to die)
