TGC 3D Competition Thread

Welcome to the new TGC 3D Contest Thread! After the long running of the TGC 3D competitions by the great Seppuku Arts, the torch has been passed to myself to continue on. These competitions are meant to challenge us to become better at our art, honing the skills needed in the real world. So to everyone who participates, build, learn, and have fun! It's not about winning, but perfecting something that we love to do. Good luck to all!

********************************
UPDATES(June/6/2007):
-New Comp Announced
********************************

How Competitions are done:
When a new competition is made, I will update this thread with information on the competition, and have links to both the wip and entry threads. Like stated, there will be a WIP thread for you to post your current progress, and a Entry Thread for people to post their entry's, and after the final date, vote on who they think did the best job.

Global Competition Rules:
-you can only enter your own work
-you can only cast one vote when voting
-you can't vote for your own work
-wip threads are for work in progress competition work
-entry threads are for completed competition work
-TGC forum rules ALWAYS apply
-you can't enter any models started, or built before the competition was posted
-cheating is grounds for disqualification from current and future competitions
-please keep this thread clean, if you have questions on the global rules, you can post here, otherwise, don't post anything else

NOW, competitions are going to be done differently in the sense of themes. Not only will each competition have a theme, but it will also have media themes as well. Heres the list of all the competition types that you will be seeing:

-Speed Modeling Competition (SMC)
-Modeling Competition (MC)
-Low Poly Competition (LPC)
-Animation Competition (AC)

Heres a brief summary of each type of competition(also, each competition will have it's own set of rules applied, so make sure you read the entire competition description):

Speed Modeling Competition:
These competitions will test your speed modeling skills. You will have 1 hour of modeling time to build the model, and 1 hour of texturing time, if applicable.

Modeling Competition:
These competitions will be normal and have no real extra rules. So anything goes.

Low Poly Competition:
These competitions will test your game modeling skills. Each one will have a poly limit and texture limit that you must conform too.

Animation Competition:
These competitions will test your animating skills. They can range from animating a kicking combo, to animating a running animation for a beast.

Now, if I remember my rules right, I'm not actually suppose to post in this thread unless its relevant enough, but this probably isn't, but then since when have I obeyed rules.

I must say this sounds good, and you've set out the thread very nicely, and it seems you have the right angle and perspective to these challenges, people made a good choice in voting you.

Hehe, cheers, some reason that makes me sound like a magician, "Watch as I make all your money disappear, haha its gone!" Wait, sorry wrong impression, that's the tax office...

Also, I like your idea of having challenge types, I think they will work quite well, so good luck with this, and thanks for taking over, much appreciated.

PS: Have you contacted a mod about swapping this thread with my old one yet? Or did you prefer it if I did?

thnxs Seppuku, you did a great job with the previous comps, i had to say something

i emailed indi about switching the two posts, he said he would do it once i got the post together. haven't seen him online in two days, so if it doesn't soon, if you can switch them, that would be great.

Cheers and no problem.

Also,

I can't literally switch them, I meant I'd ask a mod, but I'm sure Indi will do it when he's ready, I'm sure he's just caught up away from the forums.

hey sounds great with the new comp types; but in the SMC how are you ganna know if someone spent an hour or not? They could just lie.

You should also have a HPC (high poly comp) Because others are skilled in that area

Good luck and i'm entering your monkey ball comp

As for the SMC, just going to have to trust people not to lie.

As for a high poly comp, thats what the MC are for, anything goes, including high poly. Though, if the comp is right for it, i can make a rule that the model has to be high poly. Never know what themes i'll be having

Plus if they lied, they'd be failing themselves for glory with 5-10 people. There would be no real point in lying, but no doubt you'll find one or two that'll do that.

exactly, these contests are about improving your skills and having fun, not about winning, and achieving glory. Only person you'll be fooling is yourself in the end.

Lol, and i'd like to see any lier's last 1 day in the real industry.

Yeah; but even though its just for fun; people will think things like "5 more minutes won't hurt". I just can't see it running smoothly. Oh well we'll see once the first SMC comes up.

yah, we'll see, so im' hoping people will be honest...even if you go over like 5 mins, still admit it. also, i dont plan on having seriously complex models for the speed challenges. simple objects, like a clock, or maybe a pop bottle, or a pen...you know, the little things that give scenes more detail.

I think perhaps for a SMC contest it might be better if you go for one or two days instead of trying to count in hours. That way, if people don't have their model done, they can't go overtime and lie about it. Most modeling contests here usually last one to two weeks, so one or two days is still a small amount of time.

no, I'll keep the on hour time limit, unless stated otherwise. i trust this community enough to tell the truth. like i said, they'll only be hurting them selfs in the end if they lie about their modeling time.
