Hi All!

EDIT: now there is also a video available for this game:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cic1DWoYe2s

Here is my new Freeware future racer game:
G-SPEED! Completely written in Dark Basic.
If you already played TPS-speed you'll like this one, too.
G-speed started from TPS-speed game engine with new, enhanced graphics, an additional track, refined AI, better gameplay, retuned fps rates, well, it's a brand new game!

Download from my webpage:
http://www.maskedbear.com/gspeed.html

Features:
6 ships + 2 to unlock
7 tracks + 3 to unlock
Championship
7 AI controlled opponents
weapons & powerups
turbo speed and speed catapult
spiked armours to hurt opponents

Enjoy!
Don't forget to leave comments and opinions in this thread!

I think I saw this on YouTube. I have to say, it looks pretty incredible, and the fact that you accomplished this in DBC means us DBPers have no right to complain about lack of ability to finish a game.

Good work

I think you saw the video of my game's previous version TPS-speed which RickV uploaded on YouTube some months ago

Thanks! And this is my 7th full game in DBC from 2005, too!

I agree, it's really cool. It's a tiny bit rigid in places (for instance when your ship corrects its angle, it should sway a bit rather than just stopping at 0 angle), but I like it.

Interesting observation, in fact having the ship swing a bit after a turn or a movement when it has returned to angle 0 would add a more realistic touch... I could try it, thanks!

@Maro: my next game will be about some Used Cars...

A question: has someone tested the game using joypad (I included joypad support)? Did you find the handling good as with the keyobard? Let me know...

The only real lacking aspect of DarkBASIC over Professional is performance, well some graphical enhancements Dx8/9 brought to the table too; but mostly the performance imo

I still firmly believe DB is more capable than DBP for creating games for the simple reason that while it might only have a fairly basic graphics command set compared to now, atleast the functions work as you'd expect them to. One of the biggest issues I've fought with in DBP is layered alphamap images. (like particles or light flares, etc.) in DB they work exactly as you expect though without any additional coding.

Not saying it's not possible to make something impressive in DBP too, just DB has always had far more stability with features and the language itself.

That aside, very impressive. Shame I can't play it cause Vista doesn't like Dx7 much.

Great!

Do you have some images or an Alpha ready to see?
I'm curious because I'm a real maniac about futuristic racers! (I played all Wipeout series and F-Zero series, Powerdrome for PC and almost every Freeware future racer around. I'm waiting for Fatal Inertia and Wipeout 3 on PS3!

I could tell you are a Wipeout fan The accelerator indicator on your game is similar

As for my game, I have nothing spectacular to show, but I will show something if you want. At the moment, I'm working on the ships' physics and AI. But I do have a little track you can try out ^^.

In fact, I'll post a little demo shortly : watch this space

About your game... it's good Alot of variability and playability. But make the physics of the ship better. I find it quite hard to steer round corners, and the brake needs to be sharper to allow better turning . Apart from that, very good so far I love the ship designs and the racing map Very well coded that bit. The AI is fantastic too (I take it youre detecting for collision on the sides ;P Nice trick). Camera work is superb, and is very racing-like.

You got it! I added a few more collision routines even for front and back of the ships using positions and applying Pythagoras's theorem on xyz(really! ) too, and the overall result is not bad.

Hey, thanks!

You're right here. I could add air-brakes

Post a thread about your game as soon as you've something ready

Very, very nice! How come it's always DBC games that seem to get completed more often and play so well? lol...anyways, VERY good work! Loved it, though I seemed at a dreadful disadvantage over the bots....but then again, I'm not a very good racing game guy. I loved it though.

I want to try this game, but when I try to run it, I get the Blue Screen of Death and then my computer restarts. Weird. I never had a DBP program that did this.

I have played this game, and am impressed. However, I have a bug to report to you about, that will make people not want to race in it. I raced 3 times on it, and twice, a glitch happened causing me to go from 1st to 8th... Last time I tried, it was the 4th lap, at the finish line, then bam, 8 th place, then it said I did not finish the race. It basically says you missed a lap, when you really don't. I quit after that, hope you can fix it...

@Maindric: in which track did this happen? I tested all the game this morning to check this and found out a bug on "Taboga II" track only. In fact if you pass over the finish lane too near the border of the track (and I mean veeery near, almost touching the border) only on Taboga II there is a collision bug that not counts the lap

Sorry for that, anyway, on Taboga II try to end up the lap more on the center and you'll see this will not happen.

Thanks for the bug report
I will fix that in the next 1.40 version of the game!

Because the buyers of DBC are mostly either veterans in the DB-language or they have a good reason to use DBC (for example, stability or compiling times for extremely large projects, or so I've heard). Most newcomers buy DBP, so you'll see a lot less completed projects. DBP is more than capable of delivering and I think that'll be proven when, for example, Geisha House is released.
