Currently if you own any of the official model packs you will find that they do not work properly in X10. We are working on updating them and will create new installers so that they work and install perfectly under Vista.

When this work is done you will be able to just log in to your order history section and download a specific X10 version of the pack.

We'll announce more info on this as and when we release packs.

why dont you update x10 rather than the packs, also, what about non TGC packs, do they work, and if yes then why dont TGC packs work.

Does this include all of the packs, or are #11-16 already X10 compatible?
Was this just an installer issue, or are we going to have to edit our models for use in X10?

Exactly!

Also what about all the stuff one has bought from people, plus all the freebies, dont these work anymore? whats the point of fpsc if you cant use all the media, thats why you use it. because if that dont work, you can download better engines than dx9 by a wide, wide margin for free, dx10, I havnt tested, so that version I dont know yet, thats the seller to me, the media packs, I love the packs they sell, plus the ones the community does.

The packs are the seller, if fpsc dx9 came with no characters, no guns and no segments, TGC would be looking for jobs now as they wouldnt of sold fpsc without them, same goes for dx10. If these dont work you havnt got a product.

Dude, shut up while you still have any respect from people on the boards.

First off, FPSC DIDN'T have all those Model Packs when we first had the opportunity to get it. It took FORUM USERS like Disturbing13, Jon Fletcher, Bond1, and others in order to get quality models that we were willing to pay for to put into the game. You wanna start complaining to somebody, you complain to the modelers, and ten to one you're going to get noob-slapped again because of it.

Second, Microsoft has said itself that the DirectX 10 is a completely different standard than DirectX 9. Naturally, you can't expect the Model Packs to work instantaneously with a DX version that it's not written for. Think of it like an MMO; yeah, you might want those expansion packs, but if they don't fit the format of the base game, what's the purpose of even having them? At least the MPs we have now ARE usable on V1, and TGC has said as late as six months ago that getting the current MPs to work on the X10 version is one of their priorities.

You then go off on how there are a bunch of engines out there better than V1. Okay, I can understand your logic on that one...so what the Samuel L. Jackson are you even still doing here if you don't want to use it?! Not everyone is a scripting or modeling genius like you apparently seem to be, so these programs are fine for us because we can get products developed that much quicker.

I've got a challenge for you--since you seem to be SO concerned about the MPs and the content for X10, how about YOU develop some models for the program? That's right, I dare you to try this--come up with two models, JUST TWO MODELS, that even come close to rivaling the work of the artists I mentioned above AND that work in X10. Because by insulting V1, you are in essence insulting anyone who's ever contributed to the program, and that would mean the people you claim to respect.

Oh, and to Squelchy Tom, who suggested the upgrading of X10, maybe you need to read the latest newsletter; Lee's got his hands full right now trying to make it to where people who don't speak English can use the program right along with the rest of us and trying to get the software Microsoft-certified. Asking him to upgrade the contents of a program HE JUST RELEASED just so you can use your precious DX9 MPs is about as crazy as asking Apple to upgrade their newest line of iPhones days after their release because you can't download your favorite ringtones from your old phone to your new one. It's inconsiderate, for one, and for two, it's basically saying that TGC didn't do their job right in the first place.

I'm sorry...Did I miss something? This guy has some legitimate questions and I would like the answers as someone who makes media for x9 I want to know if my stuff works in x10 or if I have to do something to get it to work.
Now my question is this...
Quote: "Lee's got his hands full right now trying to make it to where people who don't speak English can use the program right along with the rest of us and trying to get the software Microsoft-certified. Asking him to upgrade the contents of a program HE JUST RELEASED just so you can use your precious DX9 MPs is about as crazy as asking Apple to upgrade their newest line of iPhones days after their release because you can't download your favorite ringtones from your old phone to your new one. You can ask anything you wish.Whether you can get it or not is another question.
He did not seem unreasonable in his post.It is not unreasonable to expect updates to x9.I am aware that TGC is busy and I hope that they can address the first FPSC as soon as possible.
As a matter of fact the unreasonable one is Gemstone Games. His attitude and some of the content in his post is unreasonable and that has been addressed.
Now the question is simple for me...does my stuff work in x10 or not?

Please have mercy and use the search function.

There's no reason custom stuff shouldn't work in X10 - with a few tweaks.

-First off, keep textures in .dds format.

-In most cases, your models will look better with a normal map, as EVERYTHING is run through a shader by default. You basically get the effect for free. -Unlike X9, where shaders gave a severe performance hit. Obviously a proper normal map will give the best result, but you can use a generic "no detail" normal map by filling an image with RGB values of 128,128,255. It will still look better than no normal map at all IMO.

-You might have to re-export some models that were exported at a different scale than used in FPSC. Really, this is just good modeling practice anyway, as making large scaling adjustments can affect collision and such. So bottom line, export your models at the size you want them to appear in game. This might change in an update - but for now you can't scale the size of entities, export them at the size you want them to be. 3ds Max users, remember to RESET-XFORM, and collapse the modifier stack after a scaling operation!!!!

So it's nothing really major to get X9 models into X10. 90% of the stuff should just work fine. More than anything, I recommend looking through the entitybank folders and observing the textures in there, and paying particular attention to the naming scheme used by X10.

Now if you downloaded some random model from the forums by a fly-by-night poster that doesn't happen to work in X10, and you don't have any modelling experience, then I'd recommend asking a person with some modelling experience how to get it working. In most cases it's probably something minor.

It would be great if you update FPSC X10 instead of the Model Packs, or if you release some kind of "patcher" thing, so we don't have to re-download all the things again. (I don't have my DSL line right now, and it's impossible to download all of that stuff using 56k dialup net.

Thank you very much, and congratulations for your software

Greetings,
J.

What is the difference between importing models to run in the X10 version and those running in the v1 version?

Is there something different in the files or is it just an installation issue for instance...

Actually people did ask Apple. And when Apple ignored them, they hacked the phone. Apple then bricked the phone. It was hacked again. Apple then announced an SDK.

Because developing a game takes a long time, people want to know the strategic plans for the product. No one wants to spend 8 months working a project "hoping" it will be updated with the features it needs. Now of course we can all say, buy it as is and take your chances. But I think TGC wants a longer lifespan than the Sega Dreamcast or the CheapHack engine.

That being said, people do need a bit more patience. It's been announced that new MPs will be released. It's been announced the X9 will be updated. It doesn't seem that anyone is just sitting around.

x10 should do a little better with the add-on model packs than they did with the regular FPSC. The models from the original FPSC just looked downright fake and kind of embarassing in a commercial game because they always looked like they were skipping around shooting from the hip. I need some nice, easy-to-access models that look like they are commercial quality. That's my hope for x10. I mean, after all, I am getting an nVidea 8600 and vista home for this software, so it better be good.

Heh, figures. $20 worth is what you get. It would be nice though if someone made a pack for $50 or sumthing with some upgraded and nicer looking animation loops. I'd jump for sumthing like that.

Me too. I've gotten a few packs from GarageGames for Torque, they don't come cheap, so I'm usually willing to set aside the money.

I have said it a thousand times we don't know how lucky we are around here.Go to GG,Turbosquid, etc. and see if you aren't happy with the prices around here.
On an unrelated note since FPSC is now selling model pack 16 it would stand to reason that model packs 9 and 10 were previously released and you can find them at the same place you can fine the rest of the FPSC official model packs.

Feels like your scolding me

I was saying I'd be perfectly willing to pay extra for an even better pack. I personally think that the FPSC model packs come extremely cheap as it is, and was saying I know things usually cost more and if FPSC packs started costing more I'd still be willing to buy. I guess you got the wrong idea from my post but my comment was meant to suggest I'm willing to pay more for 3D media (to an extent).

Of course I could just be mis-understanding you

EDIT: Lol, my new sig worked, but forgot to take out the vote text

Maybe I was a bit off in my previous post, Fred, and for that I apologize. I took Fallen One's post as an insult to the people behind X10. I mean, at the time, X10 had just been released, Lee flat out said in the newsletter what he'd been working on, and everyone was still asking him to update X10, and then FO basically says that the X9 packs were required to work on X10 or there would hardly be any sales. Didn't sound right to me, especially seeing the kind of effort that went into the stock media.

But Bond1 also brings up a good point--everyone is/was demanding that X10 be updated to be able to work with the X9 model packs, when in reality the model packs could only need minor updates to allow them to work in X10. I don't know how complex the TGC model packs were, but from the way Bond1's sounding, most of the community-made packs could be relatively easy to update.

Gemstone Games is now Cornett Media

I think they should do 1 upwards so people with the older packs but not the newer ones get in on the action, plus if I could only have one pack it would be MP1. All you need to convert and entity is a normal map and those other maps, their names elude me and sn FPSCX10 entity maker. (Hint hint TGC)

The reason nobody answered your question is not only because since model pack 17 is out packs 9 and 10 would have had to be released...either that or somebody can't count.
Also,if you would have went to the place where you found and purchased FPSC you will see there are 17 model packs for purchase...including packs 9 and 10.

I have some great third party model packs for FPSC but some don't seem to work properly with X10 (forest and railroad.) I have no idea how to update them myself so I hope the third party modellers are going to follow The Game Creators and update their model packs soon.

As an original FPS Creator EA purchaser I received bonus content for my original product support (& patience) when FPS Creator 1.0 was released. I believe it was model pack 1 - My order history does not show this model pack as purchased, probably because it was a bonus. How do I get the FPS 10 updates to this content?

I have just uploaded the X10 version of model pack 1 to the TGC Order History page of users who have purchased model pack 1 for FPS Creator. Go and download it and let me know if there are any remaining issues running this model pack on FPS Creator X10.

For users who got the bonus pack back in 2005, it was a one off collection as a big thankyou for helping us with the EA version. If you want the models to work with the new FPS Creator X10, you will need to purchase the pack officially to get access to the X10 files in the Order History section.

Got a problem with the model pack. The install is fine works great and all.

HOWEVER - the one thing I noticed is the instances are not working correctly for the Model Pack characters. Is this something that should be fix, or if there is a fix how do we fix it?

What I mean is this you can use the FPSX10 characters and select one and have 100 each has random textures like they should as well as height and what not.

The model pack 1 characters dont change textures at all. The height changes a little but nothing more.

Anyone else notice this?

That kinda sucks...ah well. I'm sure I can figure out how to convert it myself (except for maybe the segments - but all I really care about is the characters anyways).

Hi Lee,
I put the Humvee in a room with an unarmed Swat character. As the Swat guy moved to avoid me, he would bump into the Humvee and move it across the floor. I don't think he's that strong! LOL

You might want to look into that!
