You can define the language in Source Edit so the syntax is highlighted. You can also create user tools to launch your code or test the compiling.
Under Tools > Tools Configuration , you can use the command line option to run the current file you are working on (assuming you've saved the file first or made some kind of backup that can be run). There's even a checkbox to save the file automatically before running the tool. The command line would look something like:
DB.exe -x $(FileFolder)filename
In the DarkBASIC installation help, there is a document called
compiler.html that explains how to run the compiler commands from a command line or other IDE (like compile, run, build, build final)
To get the syntax errors or compilation status, a document is created in your work folder called DBCompile.log
Source Edit has these great add in tools from the Add-In Editor where you can effectively program source edit to combine commands, message boxes, formats, create documents, etc. so with a single click on a button, you can run your program and get a message box of errors or have them appear in the output box. You could even create a preprocessor of your own commands if you want.
The fancy stuff isn't easy to do, but getting source edit to run your code in DarkBASIC is. It takes a little effort to set up Source Edit or Crimson Editor, but I found it was worth it in the end. Here's a couple screenies attached:
Enjoy your day.
