That's awesome, I wish I could use sketchup that well. If you post it here, I might import it into fpsc.

You can animate anything.

Only not every program has animation features, that allow you to create animations.

So, you can make the model in sketchup (non animation program), andput it in another program like 3dsmax to animate it.

Quote: "Do you have a sketch up tutorial? I wanna learn it!"

That is quite a lot for one tutorial. If you want to learn it from scratch, buy Sketchup for dummies, and probably some more books later on as i did:
[href] http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=SketchUp&x=18&y=14[/href]

I made a tutorial on how to import a complete Level into FPSC from Sketchup:
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=134790&b=24
which is featured in the lates release of the guide:
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=131868&b=21

Now to get your gun in FPSCreator do some of the following:
Scale the Sketchup Model to an appropriate size (I haven't, and i tend to model on a larger scale for more precision and resize later), export it to .x (Depending on your version you might prefer exporting to .3ds) and animate the gun (i suggest milkshape)
*from here it is mere theory i never made a gun for SU*
Now take an existing gun, analize it's according .fpe and rewrite it to your likings.
I'm quite sure the guide covers how to make your gun FPSC-ready in detail....

I am Jacks complete lack of surprise.

SketchUp for Dummies is written by Aidan Chopra who now is "Chief Evangelist" for SketchUp and has written a lot more comprehensive Titles and Video tutorials that are on Youtube.
I strongly reccommend this to anyone interested in learnig how to use this great piece of software. And no, I'm not getting any commission for it

the file FPSC reads to make a gun is called gunspec.txt and you are going to want to take a look at an existing gun's folder and poke around there before trying to import into FPSC.(it's a long hard and tedious process that you NEVER get it into FPSC the correct way the first time with everything working.trust me I've tried)

The Commando Skeleton worked well with this model.
In fact, I scaled it so I could use the original's clip.
I need to get the textures worked out, and then the other x models, but HUD.X is coming along.

Check out the Video ....

It works when I open it.

Click it then choose open, and your Windows Media Player should play it.

Can anyone else see it?

Sorry, but I used a low resolution for bandwidth reasons.
I'll make the final video of the in-game shots in a different format.
That is, if I can finish it and get it in-game. (tomorrow maybe?)

Thanks Again Daarboven

Edit
We will need Rick Harrison's (the guy who made the commando animations) permission to distribute it.

And as far as that goes...Where did you get your image of the gun?

Here...see if this video will play for you...

Edit #2
I am having problems with exporting with Milkshape.
Just ordered Weapon Creator (long over due), but that will take some time to get. (manual processing)
Nonetheless, this gun will become FPSC ready.

WOW-Conjured Entertainment-I'm all imppressed by the tremendous effort you put in that (OMG I begin to mimic Tanja *g*).
Jesper had some on exporting from Milkshape:
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=133870&b=24
maybe that saves you some...

Thanks Daarboven. I love sarcasm.
I just wish I could have worked this thing out as fast as you made the model.

Edit
I figured out what I was doing wrong, and the commando animations/clip worked out nice.
Well, it ended up slicker than snot on a doorknob.
Check it out...

OOPS!
I need to tweak the gunspec farther to reflect a 30 round magazine rather than 24 as in the commando.
The HUD for the gun needs changing also, and the other X files need to be edited as well.
However, the gun itself is now in FPSC.

No.
I still need to do the VWEAP.X, if you want your enemies to equip it.
Just watch the video above to see what we have so far.

Quote: "How about a minitutorial/step by step? I would reply with a step-by step for guns in sketchUp "

Okay, but I can't make any promises on when it will be finished.
I would need to do a separate video for each step, so some planning is necessary to re-trace my steps.

Don't make yourself too much work with it, I just thought you'd slap together some screenshoots and a tacky comment what is shown there, so one could grab a copy of milkshape and animate the gun by him/herself. Not to mention the gunspec part of the deal...well that sounds a lot to ask...nevermind if its to much hazzle. I will do the modeling tute anyway....

I shouldn't have put off doing that VWEAP.X, because it turned out to be really easy.

Brute + XM8 = pwnage

Except maybe when he's reloading.

Here is a screenshot shot the gun in game for those of you having difficulty viewing the videos...

GOOD NEWS PEOPLE!

I have TGC's permission to use these animations for this gun.
That texture turns out to be public domain, so there is no problem realeasing it.
That means I can distribute it here for free.

Give me a day or so to finish it in its own folder structure (I been using the commandos), and then I will ZIP it up and post it here.

Maybe Daarboven can throw this in the store as a freebie as well.
After all, it is his model.

Okay
I'll make a video tutorial showing how to apply a custom mesh to the stock gun animations step by step.
It may or may not be in parts, and it will take me awhile, but I will do it.

I'm thinking of taking a quarter off from school (first break in over 3 years), so I may soon have more time for my FPSC ventures.
However, this quarter I am still pressed for time, so it will be awhile before I can start on it.

Now the stupid VWEAP texture is coming up blank.
It doesn't make sense because I call it locally and its there.

If I put it (VWEAP.x and its texture)in the commando folder then they (x+jpg) work great, but put them in their own folder and nothing but white.

So, unless I figure this out, it will be a player only weapon for now.

I need to redo the pickup X file because it too calls its texture locally where it would be better not to if I want it like stock media.

To be continued...

Edit
I re-did the pickup's X file and reset the texture to the final path of the model's folder.
It is not as dark as it was before and it looks really good. (why does this texture reassignment work when the VWEAP won't?)
I still need to figure out the VWEAP texture thingy.

2nd EDIT
I figured out the VWEAP problem.
It seems that you need to have the gun_D2 and gun_D gun _S etc files in there even if it uses a different texture.
Next time I will name the texture properly now that I know that. (I must have forgotten that part)
I need to get winZip for this computer then I'll put it up asap.
I'm going to play around with those textures before I zipp it up, so it may be tomorrow before I get it up here.
Sorry for the delay.

Main Questions:yes you could but it wouldn't be an actual laser though if you're good enough in paint or GIMP or whatever you could put it in the crosshair so it looks like it fades out under the crosshair itself and emits from the scope.
