Black Bull Poker Tournament Rulebook

A pub near me has asked me to run a poker tournament for them and I have agreed. One of the first duties is to come up with a book of rules of play that all games will be adjudicated and governed by. I have written a rulebook but I need a couple of people to read it and see if it is clear enough or if it has any mistakes in it, so if you could spare 10-15 minutes I would be most grateful

mnem,

i looked through it pretty quickly and it's gonna take more than 10-15 mins to provide proper feedback on since it's pretty thorough. when do you need this done by? if i have some time, i might dig into it.

edit: i plan on printing this out before work tomorrow and taking it with me (i normally have a healthy amount of down-time there). by the way, i like that 'fancy' font. what is it? and, what are app are you writing this with?

Heh, sorry for making it so thorough

I'm not in a big rush for it though so if you have some spare time, have a look through it I would be most grateful.

It isn't likely to be needed until Sunday at the soonest, but probably longer than that.

If you playing single deck, then this line looks suspicious:

"If two players hold the same four of a kind then
the fifth card in the hand would act as a kicker card."

Nope, that line is accurate. It is possible for more than one player to get a four of a kind in a single hand.

Supposing you were playing against me and I held Pocket Aces and you held Pocket Kings.

If the board came out as "4 4 4 4 Q" then I would win because the best five card hand I could make would be "4 4 4 4 A" whereas you could only make "4 4 4 4 K".

How can they hold the same four of a kind?

As Jeff says: "If you playing single deck" (that needs a bit of proff-reading too ).

"4444A" is the same 4 of a kind as "4444Q"

@Virtual Nomad : I used open office to write the document and I used its export to PDF feature. I pinched the fonts used from this link :

http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/4743/fonts.html

The main font I used is entitled "Showboat"

I think they were misunderstanding the fact that in Texas Hold'em there are community cards. So 2 players can have the same 4 of a kind if the community cards are the 4 of a kind.

So the Flop could come out

4H 4D KC

then the turn adds

4S

and the river adds

4C

so the community cards are

4H 4D QC 4S 4C

Now if Player1 was dealt AH 3D
And Player2 was dealt KS 9H

Player1 Wins becuase he has a 4 of a kind with an Ace Kicker (high-card)

Zenassem, if they had read the rulebook they would know it was a community card game, but no version of hold'em that I have ever played deals out SIX community cards

As I was writing this post, this very situation arose in PKR, there were four sevens on the board, I had a queen but I was beaten by my opponents ace

What do you mean? If you are using a single deck of cards then there are only four 4s, so how can more than one player each hold four 4s?? If you are using more than a single deck of cards then say so.

I confess I don't play poker so I'm probably just showing my ignorance here.

You skipped right over my post didn't you?

There are community cards. Each player only gets 2 cards. You make the best 5 card poker hand out of the 5 community cards and your 2 cards. So if the community cards are four 4's + a random card, all players have a four of a kind + their highest card.

GG - he's right. Between the beginning of the rulebook and the point I was quoting my mind drifted to an earlier form of poker and started allocating community cards into the individual hands. Sorry. By the time I was reaching the end I was probably thinking of whist.

For £450, I will use the Microsoft Word spellchecker to ignore red-lined words... just like all proof-readers.

This is a signature.

I assume you realise it was a joke - or have you just confirmed what they say about the American sense of humour, viz. if it's not accompanied by canned laughter or labelled as A JOKE in big letters then it can't be a joke.

Oh, sorry! YOU were joking, weren't you?
