I was the last days, really, really busy on "how to make a animated menu?". And here is my result:

You can change:

-The Frames Pictures. [I use .png (don't ask me why!) you can just use others as well, I'm not sure but I think so]
-How Many Frames. [I use for my self 130 frames.]
-The Code !Important!: [timergreater=]
-So basicaly you can change everything, if you know a little bit how to script.

This script isn't a loop [So it stops if there aren't any frames/huds to show].
If you want that: Go to www.dark-hazard.de.tc under Downloads and than go to the section Tutorials and click Animierter Hintergrund.

How to install:

1.Build Your Game
2.After that, you have to change your "normal" titlepage.fpi in to the Animated one. [you can find this "normal" titlepage.fpi under fileslanguagebank[your language]gamebankmygame]
3.It should work.
4.Don't forget to put your buttons, and all of your frames also in the files folder.[Of your builded game.]

If you have any questions. Just Ask!

Maybe some feedback or any comments: Anything so I can improve it?

...this looks really nice, Red Eye! I'm glad to see that you got it functioning properly.

C & C

Your present script is linear, and the animations come to an end.

Quote: "Anything so I can improve it?"

Perhaps you could create a version that loops, for folks who might benefit from it.

...personally, I have no use for it, but I am sure that many folks, who don't understand the german lanuage, would benefit from it...

I noticed something.

Look at this...
Quote: ":state=1,timergreater=100:backdrop=gamecore/backdrops/Red Eye/frame0001.png,state=2"

and then look at this...
Quote: ":state=129,timergreater=12900:backdrop=gamecore/backdrops/Red Eye/frame0130.png,state=130"

Notice anything???

It starts out matching the state and animation frame but ends up not matching.
Must have skipped one.

Yup...
Quote: "

:state=20,timergreater=2000:backdrop=gamecore/backdrops/Red Eye/frame0020.png,state=21
:state=21,timergreater=2100:backdrop=gamecore/backdrops/Red Eye/frame0022.png,state=22

"

You skipped animation frame #0021

Was that intentional or have I discovered a boo-boo?

Can you put a video up or something? Whats supposed to happen?

Also a looping script would be more useful I think.

great work

but can it be modified to loop?
If I go back to state0 after state131 will it work?

also does the animation has to finish before I press new game or any other button?

It could, but it wasn't my intention!

You are free to change the code.

Quote: "If I go back to state0 after state131 will it work?"

Gonna test that now!

Result: No, The Menu stays and the animation is looping, but you can't click new game, load game, or exit game. See end of post!

Quote: "also does the animation has to finish before I press new game or any other button?"

Yes that was my intention. But you can change the code.

[EDIT]
look at Plystire post!!!!!!

Here's a loop version of the script. You said you were very busy, so I decided to help you out in return for contributing to the community with this.

(Haven't tested, don't really have all the necessary media, lol, let me know how it goes. )

[EDIT]

Result:

IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GREAT WORK, Plystire. Thanks, Thanks, Thanks.

But than it should look like this:

------------------------------------------------------
Just one thing, my mouse is doing strange when I move it, it lets a trace for 100 ms. I don't know why he does that. Gonna look at it, I let you know.

Lets say you were useing a custom head health in your game; could something like this be used to cycle between 3 frames for each of the 10 levels of health? For example in the old doom and quake games where he would be breathing but getting bloodier with each level of health lost. Any help would be great.

EDIT: I just saw a different post where someone was somehow looping a hud and saw this comment by Conjured-
Quote: "Your looping the state that creates the HUDs. (that's a no-no)"

So should I just give up on wanting this or is it possible in a different way?

Don't just say No it can't be done. Think outside the box.

This is a little off-topic:

but do you mean this:

health is 100 no hud
health is beneeth 50 but above 10 hudshow
health beneeth 10 hudshow=something

this is just a theory

acutally no, what I mean is if the health is 100 there is a face of the character with 3 frames of breathing animation constantly going, then when you have 90 health hes still breathing but looks a bit more damaged, and so on. I just figured since you got an animated menu going that this may be the key to animated hud objects as well.

Don't just say No it can't be done. Think outside the box.

There's already a feature for that built into the game.

I actually made a halo style HUD which you can download here, which works on the same principle:

@Avid- i know a basic one can be done, I've done it for quite some time . I'm looking for each level to be animated. Play an old quake or doom game to see what im talking about.
@Red Eye-Thanks for looking into it, i can understand and change the functions of some scripts but I just cant seem to wrap my head around scripting from scratch. Cheers and thanks from all of the nonscripters!

Don't just say No it can't be done. Think outside the box.

Yep, that's okay to put it in the first post, I'm sure it'll be easier to find that way.

I think for your breathing head, it would be good to design it so that it reverses the animation once it's reached the end, so with 3 frames, it would be like:
1, 2, 3, 2, 1, 2, 3, etc.

I know with only 3 frames you'd really only be saving yourself one picture, but for larger animations, it would start to save a lot more.

Well, it's up here for the community anyway, so I think making it more accessible for everyone would be okay. But I'm not sure... he did use a tutorial from another website. Perhaps giving credit to where it originated?
