Anyone ever played an FPSC outdoor level that has no sunlight?
Say no more, here's the remedy!

...theory sounds pretty good.

Please do post a screenshot of the effect you've created...

EDIT: I'll do it for you...

lol, I've been doing this for years

(The skybox is going to be changed on this pic btw)

Might I also suggest that you change the buildsetup.ini (in your FPS Creator folder) so that the lightmaptexsize is at least 1024, and the lightmapquality is between 20 and 40. Anymore, and the shadows start to look too sharp.

(LOL)

...looks great Avenging Eagle.

I've never really created an exclusively outdoor level, and haven't thought to try this yet.

Time to consider doing so, I'm thinking...

I did too, with an ambiance of 40 set to a cool blue-ish washed out colour so the shadow areas of the map look realistic, too. Also see to edit the shadowmap quality if you can afford to wait a little longer....

I am Jacks complete lack of surprise.

Great work on the initial poster, and I've got a few of my favorite people here all on this very topic!

@Daarboven; have you given any more thought to a complete demo for the showcase...using Sketchup? The sunlight would look great in one of yours.

@AE; still interested in that tutorial series you're doing, how's it coming?

@Terry; the sunlight would look great in your grandson's game.

@Seth; I've always meant to ask if you had anything in the works with FPSC, or are you still working with the "other" FPSC (which I hear is being remade now?)?

I did indeed, but at the moment I'm tearing myself apart a bit between the dayjob, the family(which has a new member since 8 weeks)and THE NEXT's scifi contest (where my entry, if I finish, will feature some SU work but will be mostly classic segment work).
But yes, I still dream of a larger demo with 4 or 5 levels entirely in SU...maybe when the summer comes.
@Seth what is the other FPSC (blinks curious)?

I am Jacks complete lack of surprise.

The other FPSC is "Silent Walk"; though it appears that it has been discontinued, and the developer is starting up something else.

Looking forward to what you have (I'll have to pay attention to your entry as well). Congratulations on the new member...we had one a few months back ourselves!

Then you miss some sleep as well i guess...
I heard about Silent walk but I found it, well, a little too basic to dig in further...Thanks for the update.

I am Jacks complete lack of surprise.

I didn't read the tut yet.

EDIT: I finished. Nice.

I can't texture. I'm not an artist.

How does this affect build times?

Say you have a level outdoors where you use several small lights to highlight areas of the environment where the sunlight is strongest. Because there are several lights instead of just one, would that method take longer to build and put more strain on the engine? I'm really not up to scratch with the inner-workings of FPSC so I don't know what is taken into account.

it might make it a little longer to load but not too bad.
