X Tutorial
How to have the sky scroll

Info on the command “skyscroll=x”: “skyscroll=x” has been with us since V1. It has you locate the texture file, ex. Gas_U.dds. the file is noted by the “U” in it. The file will be found in the skybank folder. The command causes the texture file to scroll across the top at an angle.

The tutorial part:

First, find the setuplevel.fpi file in the languagebank/english/gamebank and open it in your editing program (notepad, fpieditpad, etc.)

Next, add this line

Finally, save then run the game to view your moving sky.

*note you can have any texture for this. it is not limited to the skybank. You can even have an air raid show up if you wanted to.

That is it. I will have a video put up on youtube demonstrating this for those who either don't want to do it themselves or for those who are too busy to do it.

Thanks for the info.

Fool around with what? This is probably something that you showed in the video, but I can't make out anything that you are typing in the video. Other than that, it works fine with just the sky file you mentioned, but I'd like to know if there are any adjustments for it.

Best.

Sorry my mind escaped me when typing that part.

Everything that I did in the video, at least all the important stuff, is in the first post .

Awesome, maybe when the migration comes, I'll add this to my tips of outdoor terrain. For now, its really cool, but it looks like it may lag a bit, that is, for my examples.

This is probably not what you mean but on the most part I can say it does not lag the level.

Im adding this link to my terrain tips. And to clarify, when you have fairly high poly stuff all OUTDOORS, i just assumed a big animated cloud would slow things down. Also, is this animating the whole skybox? Im a bit confused.

Quiet yourself, think before posting, and maybe you won't be as ignorant as you seem.

no it isn't

Thanks for the comments everyone. I added a note to the first post that should be looked at.

It won't slow down the level. The moving sky is simply a plain placed near the top of the skybox textured with the file you gave it. To make it move, the engine simply alters the UV coords for the texture, so nothing extremely processor intensive.

Good tut, Gamer X!
