Green-Ear brings DarkBASIC Professional integrated voice and text chat, voice morphing, private channels and more to its exciting release of the Green-Ear SDK.

The Green-Ear team wanted an alternative to the voice chat options currently available that were expensive and time consuming to integrate and often required server rental from the game players. That led them to the development of Green-Ear, the affordable easily integrated voice chat. Green-Ear simplifies the integration with minimal code and prices starting at just $49.99 for 10 voice slots.

All of the embedded features are included in the SDK as well as the source code to our library- so that you can customize it to suit your games' needs.

The players of your game access Green-Ear's hosted and maintained network through your acquisition of reserved slots on the network. You can grow your game as quickly or slowly as you need based on the activity of your game. Purchase Voice Slots in packs that grant players simultaneous access to the network.

Wow Mike, boy have you been busy! 3 addons in the past week... TGC knows how to do business!

So just to double check everything - the plugin itself is free, but to purchase the voice slots it costs? If so, that's a great idea, but the price of the slots is a little overpriced, assuming that it's a monthly fee that you pay.

If it's not a monthly fee, then the prices seem great.

Sure is a lot going on right now. Hopefully more coming soon

Yes the plugin is free. Ensure you use the latest version of DB Pro and then register from within your order history.

Fees for voice slots are a one off. The license for your voice slots will last for the lifetime of your product. There is no expiration date.

Oh wow, I took the meaning of 10 slots quite literally, in the fact that 10 slots = 10 different people, much like purchasing slots for a TeamSpeak server works. That's a really clever way of engineering their slot system, as long as the game doesn't get extremely chatty.

Anyway, the prices are simply a bargain, this will be helpful for a lot of people, saving them a lot of time, and most importantly, a lot of cash on needing their own server.

Now if you'll excuse me, i'm off to mess with this!

What I will be interested to know from anyone playing with this is...Can you use the voice chaging and synthesis functionality standalone, without being in a network game?

The error below is what I get when trying to create a developer account. I'm trying to create at http://www.green-ear.com/developer_newuser.aspx

Quote: "Server Error in '/' Application.
Runtime Error
Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
<system.web>
<customErrors mode="Off"/>
</system.web>
</configuration>

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
<system.web>
<customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/>
</system.web>
</configuration>"

Hey everyone,

I'm Leba, the Product Development Manager of Green-Ear (the newly added DarkBasic integrated VoIP software). I just dropped by to clarify a couple things and introduce myself.

On the voice slots, 10 slots is equal to 10 concurrent players. But there is no monthly charges of any kind. The voice slot packs are good for the life of the title, they never expire and you can add more as you need them.

@Veron- Please try the new developer account screen again, I just tried it and did not get the same error. Let me know if it works, and if not I will get it up and running for you.

It's great to be apart of the Game Creator's community.

@BatVink- In order to use the Green-Ear features you would need to be connected to our network.

@Veron- Thanks for the compliment! I would love to get your feedback on what you like, what are the most useful features to you... what you don't and what you'd like to see in future releases. Let's talk.

Sounds good, feel free to contact me at the email/MSN in my profile if you want any feedback. I haven't had that much time to really get into it yet, but I will in the near future.

Shame that this thread isn't getting more attention either.

This is a godsend. Cheap, lifetime prices for VoIP. I'm not even thinking about my multiplayer online game but rather to make my own teamspeak so my guild in world of warcraft can use without having to pay a fee every month ^^ Great work.

One question tho. Can this only be used to for chat and voice or can all online comunications be made with this plugin including players status, positions in world etc etc. Or would we still need another plugin to handle udp/tcp connections and our own game server?

-EDIT-

I created an account on Green Ear and now i want to create a studio but i don't know what "Administrator Join Studio Key" is. Can anyon enlighten me on that?

Take care

@AtomR - The "Administrator Join Studio Key" is simply a password you can share with other users at the same development studio so they can join the studio you created rather than each one using their own. I hope I explained that clearly enough. If not, post back and I'll try to clarify.

Also, at the moment we only support text and voice chat, with some added features such as voice masking (e.g. changing the pitch to sound like an elf).

Thx. I figured that was it but needed to make sure before creating any studio.

Its unfortunate that u only support chat features because we'll still need to get our own game server, so that means an added expense and not a cheaper solution I'll have to weigh in how much i want voice chat, a feature i hadn't even consider before.

Take care

You can send text messages, there's no reason why these have to be player communication.

I was thinking that aswell, but shouldn't ingame data be made in UDP. Or better yet isnt tcp slower for data like positioning and actions etc etc even if its more reliable. I don't need all positioning data to achnoledge it was received. I don't have experience in networking, only what i read, so i'm still going to try out Green Ear and see if it can perform well. Especially since my game does not have real time fighting between users (pvp?) but rather teamwork to pass chalenges that don't need very accurate data.

Take care
