A nice sewer or sea foam effect.
A combination of model, texture, animation and shader.
Created a plane in modeling app, apply noise to the surface, flatten the plane a little so its not too high.
The shader rotates the texture across the surface of the plane and the \'noised\' surface distorts the image, rotate the plane at the same speed in the opposite direction to prevent the image rotation.
Alpha channel for transparency is written into the shader, so you can sit it on top of your water.
This might work on some folks systems better than others due to FPSC animation playback being a little laggy.
Remember to turn on shaders in preferences..

Video showing the effect of shader and animation.

It can be used as you wish Heltor yw
I have had these ideas for a long time and its a heads up to Bond1 for pointing me in the right direction on how to implement them using shaders.

Great use of the "uv-rotater" node in Shader FX, really creative. It really is a great tool for banging out ideas, isn't it? Although about 50% percent of that shader code isn't doing anything at all in FPSC and could be optimized quite a bit, wink wink.

The icing on the cake would be to add specular and cubemap reflections, to give it that sparkly property of real water.

Yep I am hearing you
It took a bit of tinkering to get it into FPSC and I was just grateful to get that far with my first attempt at shaders. I never really intended to use it other than as an overlay for water so never gave much thought to reflections, will sure take it a step further next time tho'
I recently purchased Dark shader (on your advise I might add) and that has helped a lot with my understanding of what goes on under the hood, not to mention editing the darn things. I have a lot of ideas which would have not seen the light of day without your inspirational video, many thanks

Yep that is the best way to learn, I went through this process myself - it takes time, but then you finally get that "aha" moment when everything just clicks. Check out Ben Cloward's first shader DVD, it is excellent at explaining shader structure and the graphics pipeline in general.

DarkShader is probably the best "bridge" to getting your shaders working in FPSC without having to build games OVER and OVER. Feel free to email me if you there's anything I can help with.
