Hey Guys just got done looking at some of the Wolf's WIC's and now every thing that I have done that I thought looked good now looks like crap. Thank you Wolf

So I decided to show you what I have so far to see if you think I should continue. My plan was to put it into the defy the odds competition. I know it wont win but i would like to see what kind of score I would get. Any ways here is what I got so far.

Story: Some time in the very near future some scientists go missing in a secret lab facility. The sector in which they were lost in is quarinteened and you are sent in to find them. You find things are not all right in the sector of the base as zombies and mutants attack you. And now your mission is to find away out alive.

There are some pretty obvious refrences through out to the four horse men of the apocolypse. As to why im not sure other than they are the clues that you have enterd the next chamber and things will be getting tougher.

Gameplay: Pretty standard corridor horror shooter, alot like the Doom serries.

Screens:
Note: these are not a final representation of the game. The final product may look different. (actually it already looks better)

So what you think? should I finish it?

Wow thats deep man. And thanks. Its been alot of trial and error for me. Coming from 100% noob, and knowing absolutly nothing, to now where I know some stuff. As seen in screens up above.

Thanks again. Now I just need to get motivated and design some more levels. It is really hard for me to try and come up with somthing new each level. I have the over all plan for what comes next but I have a level or two before I get to the next stage, But I need somthing to add.

Oh well it will come to me eventually.

If you want better blood overlays on the walls and floors make them dynamic, it antialiases the alpha in a really nice way.

Your game looks cool, but some of the screens are empty, try fleshing it out a bit with some trims and pipes along the ceiling and walls

@Tinker

I was thinking of selling it, but when I look at the wolfs games and how good they are, and free im not sure. Its just that I have put alot of money and time into this I would like to get somthing back. But if I don't sell I will take you up on your offer. And maybe even if I do you can put the demo on you site. I have to work out a few bugs yet. 1 beeing that the screens I have placed is only from the first 5 levels. So far I have 9 and working on 10, but for some odd reason it crashes after 5 every time. I need to figure this out or just release parts, idk.

@szempek555

go to http://www.fps-files.com/news.php they should have some extra blood overlays. As for the bloody signs/words on the wall I did make them my self, but I would be happy make some for you if you would like.

For the blooody hud go to this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OzGw8ivVrc

this video will give you a download link and a tutorial on how to make it work. From there you need to go in and eddit the individual images using photoshop or paint.net (I used paint).

@Hamburger

Thanks for the advice Ill try that. Some of my levels are almost completely full on memory, but I agree I need more stuff on walls.

Thanks to all for the encouragement

An interesting concept.

Instead of a game to play, we get a kind of grpahic novel to watch.

Just kidding - if it's playable why not let us try it for a feedback?

two different programs 1 to actually make the sign it self was paint.net. Very simple I think. And the seccond you can find on this forum called Overlays. That actually puts it all togethor for you.

As for the weapon Im not sure which one you speak of but the only 2 that I used in these screens are the P226, and the G36C from EAI. Both can be found on the TGC store

@sgtbrown Dude, I think wolf's game is not for free, I think it will cost around $ 3.99 that's what I know (I'm not sure), but 1 piece of advice, if you already put money on to it, better take it back. The time, the electricity, the effort plus the money you invest on that game? It's worth selling dude. Better think twice. Look at my game, it's not that good but I will try to sell it cause I also invested money on it.

Even to the cheapest price I will, anyway, cheaper price have lots of advantage. The Cheaper the game, the more player will buy it, and no one will ever care to share it freely even in torrent cause its costs is affordable. Just a little bit of marketing strategy will do.

Do not be discouraged of what you see in wolf's game, I know it is really good but take it as a challenge. Don't compare your game to his cause you have a different story.

-A friends point of view-

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Questions:

Cause your a talented man in texturing... What program did you use? Can you teach me some texturing technique?

O by the way! Very good trailer!

Don't mention it.
I'm kidding. Technically, my leveldesign is not great at all. I'm just good at confering a certain feel and athmosphere towards the player. Technically, my design is mediocre...but I don't care.
Yeah, what I really want to say is that my projects look like crap compared to other stuff aswell. Compare Relict to Skyrim... or Shavra to ...some scifi shooter that is somehow similar. It would loose. However, I was well aware of that even before looking at these big company games as I always am well aware of the flaws in my stuff...and the good things. SO, just ask yourself: What do you think is really good in your game? What sucks? Look at it like you want to buy the game without being involved in its development.

Quote: ". I know it wont win but i would like to see what kind of score I would get."

Aww! Come on! Imagine Rocky having that point of view... well...we wouldn't have to see 4 awful movies... but I'm missing my point. Its pretty okay so far! Keep at it and maybe you win in the end

Quote: "Story: Some time in the very near future some scientists go missing in a secret lab facility. The sector in which they were lost in is quarinteened and you are sent in to find them. Okay, some basics about storywriting. Don't use weasel words like "some","things" etc. unless you are writing some pseudo esoteric junk like me. How exactly do you go missing in a lab? I guess you mean some big research facility, where a High Security Sector gets cut of off communication, and camera and is somehow...deep in an underground base. Yay! Zombies and Mutants in a research lab again. Please do something else...PLEEEAASEEEE!

Quote: "

By different I didn't mean hitting me with the bible hammer

But since you are not yet that experienced with the entire gamedesign/storywriting stuff, this'll do at first. Congratulation! You just qualified to write the script for the next Michael Bay movie

Well, I can give you feedback on your design, but I doubt it would be all that positive. However, it would be very detailed.
I'll only do it if you really want to read it

All I have to point out is that you are using a similar sepia effect as I do. I just assume that you have the idea from the new Shavra Episode, and I dont claim to own it or something.

I just use it because my game has a lot of relations to World War 1 and vintage style elements. It also plays in a postapocalyptic desert planet scenario...thats why I use all the sepia.

Sepia however does not go with Scifi Research Lab.

Hey thanks man,

The story right now is just a very basic out line, The whole horsmen of the apocolypse is kind of like segemnts. The first segment is easy to get through, and then the second one gets a little tougher and so on.

The whole sepia filter, I tried not to do to much because it is a scify shooter, just enough to add a little atmospher. I will most likley change it yet. But the main reason I chose that filter is for the film grain effect. I like how it adds just that little tiny bit of disorentation at first.

And yes I would love some feedback on level design. Regardless weather it is good or bad. I understand that I am not a professional, and I do not plan on making a career out of this.

Thanks for post, and got to love the rockey refference, thnanks man.

P.S. Does any one know how to get a completely built game to work past the 5th level? I allready asked this on the product chat forum, but the only answer I got was that just happens.

Thanks again for the support

Cant wait for you to review it man! I have had some close freinds test it but they don't give very good feed back. They just say its pretty good, and nothing more. They dont tell me what is good, or what could use a little work. Maybe its because they don't know how far I can go with the program. IDK. Beta should be out very soon.

Quote: "The whole sepia filter, I tried not to do to much because it is a scify shooter,"

Just take some other color...it might work A lot of scifi movies work with blue or greyish filters.

Alright, lets examine those screenshots, shall we

Screenshot 1: the first screenshot is already full of stuff that doesn't make sence. 1. You notice how this corridor's wall has lights manufactured within? Place lightsources accordingly because the entire hallway is really dark and especially the walls are pitch black. Then there is this auxilary light standing there.

Screenshot 2 and 3: are basically sepiacolored blackness with corridorparts that light up due to the shaders. Add small lightsources there and some actual lights. Its a high security lab, there are no unlit hallways. I guess you had the idea of the creepy dark hallway, but that really needs to be executed well.

I wont bash anymore on this....just this: The idea of a dark creepy corridor is that you do not know what is going to happen or what kind of hidden corner (that could give shelter to some nightmare creature) lies within. However, the orange fluorescent line indicates to the player immediately that its just a straigh corridor where nothing at all is going to happen.

Screenshot 5 and 6: I dont really know what kind of room that is. Is it intentionally flooded? if yes, just add some shafts for the water to flow in/out. If not...where does the water come from? Those pipes are still intact. However! I would suggest to replace that walltexture.

Screenshot 7: I dont know what happened, but your ceiling textures do not tile anymore. (They appear as little seperate squares) but this is likely not your fault. Other than that I think you could use another soldier. Those in the black uniform appear to fit a lot better than this guy in woodland camo. Other than that there is absolutely nothing in this room. It lags everything. What is it? Where does it lead? why is it so big? where is all the stuff?

Screenshot 8: What?

Alright...I just realized how many more screenshots are following so I pick out more general flaws.

Now we get big white rooms without anything (and I mean ANYTHING) at all. However, we have a bloody message on the walls.

Okay, a text written in blood should have a certain impact on the player. And using the same text over and over again in the same scene...why did you do that? Use it once in a good place: it works. Use it over and over again in random places: its nothing.

Now we get some scenes that dont fit in at all. Its a labratory? Why is there this square hallway, with water dripping of the walls and a mattress lying around here? Where are we?

Next thing is a messed up room filled with some equipment from the last decade? where are we now?

Then we get a bunch of screenshot of silhouettes and ... nothing else. Well, towards the end you are really making progress!

You have suddenly entites, and something that looks like a scene with some enemies! Thats a good point to start I guess
Reboot again from there...or basically: Add some entites and ask yourself three questions before making a room: What is that room? Who is usually in this room and leaves his crap there? Where is this room? (this is related to how its lit...)

Your retextures are basically unchanged. All you added where some bloodsplats. These guys look like they where in some really bloody swordfight or where painting their yard red. None of them looks undead. Not even remotely. Look at the one in the second last screenshot...this guy is smiling at you.
Zombie/Undead has nothing to do with blood. Its a need addon and it should be used rarely to keep its impact. There is really no reason for them having blood everywhere. Add some wounds. Here, I give you 2 images of undeads.

You see...demonic/dead eyes, deformed face, creepy unhealthy skintone. Undead stuff is not about adding blood on something.

Yeah! I sound annoying and overcritical to an FPSC Project. But I saw you added it on Moddb, and I would really suggest to add it there as soon as it has some more substance...you present it to gamers there, not other developers.
So yeah! Its basically an okay project and might end up being something! Just keep working on it...and add some dang entities

my levels start out pretty empty because I wanted longer levels at first. I had decided that a longer empty level was better than a short detailed one. Now I realize this is not nesisarily true, and it does some what change. levels 6-10 look a hell of alot better than anything I have shown yet.

In the first few screens there is a problem with the power. That is why the whole place is not lit up. But i do understand your point. Also the super long hallway is extremly dark so your eyes will not be as destracted to what happens at the end of the hallway.

The "zombie guys" ya I know I just added blood. Im not a very good at retexturing, and I was hoping that that would be enough. clearly its not.

And as for the walls that are dripping water, that is because this is an underground millitary facility. Yes much of it is a labratory, but some of it is still just a concrete bunker underground.

Thank you though I will try to fix these things. I appreciat the constructive criticism. Thanks.

In the likes of screen 13 the lighting is really harsh. Any areas like that with a really bright, white light need to be toned down. A good tip would be to avoid bland white lighting completely - always add a hint of a (neutral) colour.

I have all ready made some pretty big updates to the look of the game, and the overall detail level of the game. Ill post some screens when I get home some point.

But, seriously, FEED BACK would be nice. Let me know what I did right or what I did wrong. That way I can continue to to the right things and fix the wrong things.

Thanks to all

Hey Sgt. Brown, The light mixture is good and as well as the effects, however I find your levels a bit empty. But all in all your game is good. Have a great day!

HI there sgt. brown, it seems that there is an error in the forums, I already posted a feedback and I can't still saw it here, anyway, I will repeat it again, the game is good in terms of sfx and light mixtures, however the your levels seems to be a bit empty. But all in all the game was great.

Good work. I thought it might need a very high class computer to run the game to get such nice screenshots.
