I've set up an IRC channel for the AGK.

Currently it's at

[UPDATE]
irc.kistech.com port 6667

Fire up your favorite IRC client and jump in.

If you don't have an IRC client, or don't want to mess with one, you can join in by going to,

http://www.kistech.com/irc.aspx

There's a web based client that gives you access to all the channels.

Good idea KISTech. Also, if you are tweeting about it, use #appgamekit - should make things easier to find.

Can't wait to get some free time and fly into this! I've got the same giddy feeling I had when I got DarkBASIC Classic in '99!

Hi KISTech,

I assume the desired irc room is #appgamekit, isn't it? Well, I tried to connect and I could do it, although I entered the room with OP status, which I believe we don't want to do, right?

As for the web interface, a fairly good one is http://qwebirc.org/ but is not a website that you can use to connect to any irc server. Basically it is the source code that you'd need to host on your server. If you're going to do that, I believe qwebirc can be configured to enter directly into the #appgamekit room.

For users that don't like web interfaces, and uses a Mac, I suggest Colloquy client. Free and very good. For Windows, googling "IRC free client" will give you tons of options

Cheers

Paulo

It looks like a few people have managed to connect off and on.

There is now a web based IRC client available at

http://www.kistech.com/irc.aspx

This will load up and automatically drop you into the #support channel.

at the bottom type,

/nick (your new name)

To change your identity on the channel. Otherwise you'll be assigned the name UserXXXX.

I've updated the first post with new information. DNS has propagated the address so everyone should be able to reach it now, and there's a web based client set up.

I've also added NickServ and ChanServ services, so you can reserve a nickname on the IRC server. Once you are connected do the following.

To change the default nickname to what you want,

/NICK (new name)

To reserve it for your use,

/REGISTER (password) (email address)

If all goes well then you have reserved that nickname.

To log in with that nickname later, change the nickname to yours as before, and type,

/IDENTIFY (password)

and you will be logged in.

If you are using an IRC client such as mIRC, and you've entered your nickname and password in there, then it will log you in automatically when you connect.

If you need help with any of the commands in IRC, just type your question in the channel that you are dropped in to.

Right now there are 2 AppGameKit channels active.

#agk-discuss - for AppGameKit general discussions
#agk-support - for AppGameKit support questions

The 2 other channels are KISTech channels. When you connect you'll be automatically connected to #discuss. From there you can type

/JOIN (channel name)

and you'll be connected to that channel. You can join more than one channel, and they will show up in the list at the bottom of the web client. Just click on the name of the channel to switch between them.

I've been using the web IRC app you posted. Is there a desktop app you recommend for IRC?

I'm using mIRC. There are a few others. Someone mentioned XChat.

I'll hoping to have the web based app working a little better soon. I just need to get rid of that security warning if I can, or find a better web based client to put there.

I'm using mIRC, at least for the next 30 days

I was just on, nobody active, but that's to be expected.

Thanks for making this effort, KISTech, I'm sure it's going to be very handy!

I just updated the web client to CBIRC. It's still Java, but it's a much better client with more features, and no annoying security warnings that tend to turn people off from it.

The new web client looks much cleaner. I'll stick to your web app rather than messing with a desktop app. Keep up the good work! More users should arrive soon enough.

If anyone has had trouble getting on the IRC server. I had some issues with my router, but it should be all set now.

Let me know if there are any issues.

It could be just a DNS update delay for you depending on where you are.

It should be working now no matter where you are.

I also can't connect. If I can make a suggestion, you may want to consider making an agk channel on Devhat (irc.devhat.net) It's an established irc network maintained and frequented by several TGCers. This way you don't have to worry about keeping a server up and all that hassle.

Still not working for me... I'm able to access irc.freenode.net so I believe I have no connection problems on my side.

Thanks!

Found the issue. It's up and running now. Turned out to be a little mistake I made in the router port forwarding setup.

I know there are other IRC servers out there, and TGC at one point had an official channel on irc.devhat.net, but I figured there may have been a reason they decided to drop it. Whether there were issues with security in the channels, or lack of interest, or just the lack of a warm body wanting to manage it, I don't know.

So I decided to set up a channel for the AGK.

If it gets used, great! If it doesn't, that's ok too.

Ohh congrats on hosting a chat session with the devs! I held one or two back in the day and was crap at it. It's a tradition! I'm sure you'll do fine.

I'll try and show up but if not I'll idle in there to capture a log.

Good session guys. I'll have the log posted soon.

[edit]

The chat log is attached. I edited the logs from the 3 different channels that everyone seemed to be asking questions in, and grouped the answers with the questions as best I could.

Sunday we'll just have one channel.

My bad, I double checked the newsletter and it said 16:00 (4PM) BST. So it would have been 3PM GMT.

Lee and I are in there now. It's pretty quiet.

I dunno if this has been answered on the forums yet... I will be reading through all 300+ posts... however I just have a quick question... as DBPro requires end users to install DX9 libraries.... is this still needed for AppGameKit outputs? will a fresh fully updated install of win7 for example be able to play an AppGameKit processed app?

For the first time since I had the fiber put in, it was down this morning when I went in to the office. It turned out the ONT got it's once monthly reboot from the provider and decided to hang. It requires a technician to come out with a special tool and hit a button.

He left it uncovered for me and showed me where the button is.

The KISTech servers will be down for a day or so. The ONT box died again but isnt recovering like it did yesterday. They'll have to install a new one. which sadly wont be until tomorrow.

IMHO it would be better to use a existing wide spreaded IRC board,
like those on Freenode.
And you can use a exiting web-irc client, like those on

http://webchat.freenode.net/

or use a existing irc client and connect to a freenode-irc server,
like for example this hitchcock.freenode.net or some other

give #AGK a chance

I propose we setup on irc on good old irc.devhat.net. Devhat's been around forever and used to host the official chat room. Perhaps channel #agk?

Ah, I'm already there, so I've set it up.

server: irc.devhat.net
channel: #agk
