Here it is... The long awaited COMPLETE Milkshape to FPSC Tutorial! Well, after an aggravating 2 weeks of trying to get the video tutorials uploaded to Youtube, I finally just decided to release the tutorial in parts.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HERE IS PART1 of Anayar's Complete Milkshape to FPSC Tutorial for you guys. It covers the MODELLING part of the tutorial

This is for those of you who have ALWAYS wanted to get into modelling but have never worked up the courage to start. Hopefully we can see a whole new breed of modelers around here

PART 1: Modelling
Software you will need for this part:
1. Milkshape 3D; Free trial available here

TO OPEN THE RAR;
1. WinRAR; Free, available here

Mediafire Link:
http://www.mediafire.com/?eypzb4e2vqldb9v

Thats it. The download is also attached below Have fun and please post some C&C about the tutorial if it helps you

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PART 2: UV Mapping
Software you will need for this part:
1. UV Mapper Classic; Free here

Youtube Video;
MAPPING PART1-

MAPPING PART2-

You can also watch the videos on my website...here
www.anayar.com/tutorials

The Mapping Part of this tutorial is a video simply because it was easiest for me to explain all the stuff through a video rather than a full body of text. I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

Please let me know if anything was not clear.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The next part of Anayar's Complete Milkshape to FPSC Tutorial is HERE!!! It covers Texturing- Base layers. Basically it covers adding all the base colors and textures to the UV map and covers GIMP tools. The video is crap in some parts so let me know if you guys didnt understand something

PART 3: Texturing- The Base
Software/Files/links you will need for this part:
1. GIMP; Free HERE
2. DL with required files; Get it here: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=188232&b=24&msg=2251676#m2251676

Youtube Video;
TEXTURING- THE BASE (PART1)

TEXTURING- THE BASE (PART2)

NOTE: We WILL be changing the wood texture from that HORRIBLE pattern fill in the next part of the tutorial Rest assured, I wouldnt produce something THAT crappy

Feedback is appreciated, and if you guys could again post a picture or two of the textured mailbox you created using this tutorial I would really appreciate it
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oooh... woops, totally missed this (and forgot about it )

Sorry to keep you all waiting Here's the next part

PART 4: Texturing- The Details
Software/Files/links you will need for this part:
1. GIMP; Free HERE
2. ATTACHED DL with required files; Get it here: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=188232&b=24&msg=2268611#m2268611

Youtube Video;
TEXTURING- THE DETAILS (PART1)

TEXTURING- THE DETAILS (PART2)

The attached tutorial files dont include the final wood texture. I lost this, so the only file I have included in the first wood texture. If you guys want to use a different texture feel free
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cheers,
Anayar

[EDIT]
Those of you who try out the tutorial... if you could post a screenshot of what you made using it, i woudl really appreciate it. That way, if it looks like mine, means I didnt do too shabby a job

Also, if anything is unclear please let me know

To be honest, I didn't get through the whole thing. I noticed that we do things a little different, like I tend to use the mouse to scale rather than clicking the scale button 10 times but the end result is what counts. You have multiple new users here who have made the mailbox and now understand how the process works. That's the test of any successful tut. Good job.

Now I have to go. I feel a bit of a chill coming on.

Well see, thats how I work too... it was a PAIN counting how many times I hit scale lol but I really didnt have any other alternative... i mean, i could have said, "press scale, then move the mouse 25 degrees in the northwestern direction ". LOL. Anyways, thanks mate, but honestly this is for the VERY beginners and Newbie's who are jsut getting into modelling (not someone who already is proficient at it like you ). Anyways, my goal in this tutorial was to give the user a basic overview of milkshape, and leave them with the tools to be able to tackle bigger & better things

Also, a quick question? Should I make seperate threads for each part fo the tutorial or should i keep it in ONE thread? IDK seeing as the title is Part1 so I need everyone's input on it

Cheers,
Anayar

I found out by myself that using the mouse to scale and rotate works better than clicking the scale or rotate buttons.

But the tutorial was still good enough to at least get me started, so that I could explore these things for myself once I'd learnt the basics

That's what I was saying.

Please ask/email a MOD to change the thread title and continue to add tut's to the first post. Besides the courtesy of doing so, it will keep them all together and avoid confusion/questions later.

Anayar, are you going to do the next part? I know you're probably busy with your weapons pack, which is fine (can't wait!), but I would really like to see this get finished. I'm sorry I never posted anything; my free trial ran out. I hope to do something in the future with what you have so graciously done.

Hi there
Many thanks for this tutorial, i learned a lot of follow this.

I have a small problem only... the mailbox i created was very tiny and small.
I correct this with the option scale. in the fpe file, but is this the correct way?, and how do i know when i make a model in milkshape that the object is at the right height size etc..
I can not see a meassurement tool in milkshape

Still learning..

@HarryWever:

Rescaling the mailbox in the FPE should be fine. You can import/merge a character into milkshape, then select the mailbox and rescale it until looks large enough.

@Anayar:

I'm having a major problem with GIMP - last night I was texturing a box using a wood texture I had by taking picture. I had it pretty much done, but was too tired to keep going, so I saved my work and went to bed. When I pulled it up again over lunch, it was a disaster - all there was was the entire wooden photo I took, not the neatly organized squares (that represent the textured parts of the UV map ) I had for the box already done the night before. I thought Oh well, it wasn't that hard, I'll just do it again. Well, now I'm trying to texture it, but everytime I copy and paste it into the UV map/texture I'm working on so I can cut out the necessary parts, the wood turns green - and I have no idea why. I can paste it just fine into another blank GIMP project, but it never works when I put it in to texture. I recall that I was playing with the "alien glow" feature before I went to bed, but I can't find if and what settings it changed that would affect the wood in such an odd way. Do you know any solutions?

Thanks,
Captain Coder

I've attached a picture to show you my problem.
