My project development has ground to a halt, but the error eludes me and I'm hoping for some more expert help. Everything was going fine and my project was running at 70-75 frames per second. I updated my nVidia drivers, but the next time I tried running the the program I was getting slow down - I'm talking SERIOUS slow down, now less than 25 frames per second.

So, I rolled back the driver. No change. I reinstalled Direct X - no change. I opened a previous verion from the folder properties - the compiled .exe ran at full speed again. So, I compared the dbpro file in the backup to the current one using wordpad line by line - no difference.

So giving up, I copied the dbpro file from the backup over the current one. Compiled it....less than 25 frames per second. I;ve now replaced EVERY file with the backup, but it's still running slow. So my only conclusion is....it HAS to be the compiler, but I've no idea why or what's wrong. Has some DLL been replaced or something? Will reinstalling DBPRO loose my project or anything daft???

I'd just go for a reinstall mate, just make sure you back up your project OUTSIDE of the darkbasic directory as I'm not sure if it deletes it.

Ok, I've done a complete new install, including the official update.....still running beyond useful frame rates. Dunno what's wrong, but this is actually killing my project. Thought maybe the nVidia driver messed with some settings, but don't understand why the pre-compiled backup still runs full speed. I've also dropped them all back down to performance instead of quality (which I know they weren't before) and still no avail.

Anyone else got any ideas???

What about an older update?

It's the same update that it was originally compiled in, so it shouldn't work...but I'll give it a try. Thinking though it's partition and dual boot time...and if that doesn't work, then all I can conclude is that whatever driver was installed BEFORE The update was what was giving the speed boost!

Ok, I finally fixed the problem. The solution is as odd as the problem though....in the end I deleted the entire contents of the project folder, and replaced all the files with a backup and .... problem solved apparently. Since I'd replaced the DBPro, backup and temp files before and that didn't work, I assume it was a media file??? Anyway, fixed now apparently, thanks for the suggestions Indicium.

You don't happen to be loading any Jpeg images are you? These get processed when you load them. It may not be the cause, but has the potential to slow things down.

I've had exactly the same problem happen before and ended up with the same solution. Started up my computer one day and my code ran slow. Copied the code out of the project, deleted the project, re-created it and copied the code back into the new project and BAM, worked fine.

Bizarre...

I spoke WAY too soon. Seemed to work, but as soon as the project was saved and compliled again, slow down. I gave up and restored my entire system back to two weeks ago to long before the problem started.....and IT'S STILL THERE!!!!!! I've also literally uninstalled - COMPLETELY - DBPro and reinstalled another download, and the problem persisted. No other software is affected, and the pre-compiled versions all run perfectly until a new version is done, so I KNOW it has to be the compiler, I just can't figure out why!!!
