Making a game that at some point has 100+ troops on the screen and finding the frame rates to drop really low. The model is low poly count also have a simple culling routine and tried lowering the texture quality but doesn't seem to help.

Is there a method to work around this issue, or should I just stick to using billboards? There's many hack and slash games out there that has loads of objects on screen and running smooth so there's gotta be a trick to this right....

At a guess I'd say it's the animation that's slowing it down. Do a search for animating objects using a shader, that method should give you a performance boost.

Yes it's the animation slowing me down. Just tried running the same thing with just the static model and got very high frame rates. Doing a search for what you suggested, so far just random things pop up but I am still looking it up some more. I'm using blender to create my model and have been trying to save the animation without the armatures but that doesn't work either.

Apply the shader I attached to your models.

Yes that works amazingly well. Only one problem, I use set ambient light at 100 and fastbone darkens the model. I looked around a bit and found a modified version of fastbone and it works perfect now! http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=160643&b=24

Thanks for the help

By the way I also tried reducing the number of bones and it helps speed things up.
