I feel a bit cheeky asking this.. but how do I apply for forum badges ?

I developed DarkNet, so would hope this entitles me to 'DBPro Tool Maker' and 'GDK Tool Maker'

Is there a contact email for MODs besides personal emails?

There you go. It's really just a case of making us aware, remind us etc. I think having a thread like this is enough for now, if anyone is missing any deserved badges, then they could add some details here, and we can edit their post to signify when badges have been added.

I got a fever, and the only prescription, is more memes.

Good idea, should help catch up with missing badges.

I know I was a Valued Member before becoming El Presidente.

Well you know.. I do technically qualify as a 3d media maker, free media, model pack contributions here and there.. yeah I'm totally not an egotistic nag

Moderators should take a look on the fpsc boards, there's actually a much larger level of free models being given away in highly generous amounts (more so than I've seen elsewhere when I comes to 3d models here).

I saw that there was an "FPS Creator developer" badge or something like that, which said that you had to have at least one full release of an FPSC game. I did release Zombified, which I think qualifies as a full game (9 levels) It doesn't really matter though, because I really think that towards the end the game got worse, so would I want honors for something like that

I'm not up-to-scratch on the FPSC side of things, it's better to let the FPSC mods handle the FPSC badges I think. Hang in there guys .

The FPSC Developer Badge is for those that have taken their creations to full release.....meaning they have successfully marketed their game. To date, I have only awarded Ertlov that badge.

As to the Media Maker Badges; they are meant for those with significant contributions over the years (whether it's for free, or for pay). There is no "magic amount" of media that must be put up on the boards in order to qualify; it is up to the Moderator's judgement and past experience with each Member.

We have to keep from saturating the Boards with badges, so they do not lose their importance overall. But, as we've alluded to before, bear with us as we continue to sift through things.

I remember reading that competition winning games qualify for badges. I made one of the winning entries for one of the DBPro Intel competitions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ApHih8lQx4

Additionally, I released Dego about two years ago, which is one of the largest scale DBPro games developed and had a large forum following during development.

So uh... I hope that qualifies me for a badge?

I notice the AppGameKit badge is for games, why not tools/applications. Though I guess it is thegamecreators, clue is in the title.

I believe I may qualify for the following badges:

FPSC Tool Maker - Developed 2 different FPSC mods and also worked on the official updates

DBPro Developer - REALLY not sure about this one, but SpriteMe was a utility (badge info says game) made in DBPro, and also depends on whether or not you count TGC as a "recognised market"

AGK Developer - I have a few games in the Android market, here's the link to one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.indiewolfgames.fifteenpuzzleapp

Just wondering if I would qualify. Wouldn't mind collecting some additional badges On a related note, if a team of people work together on something with equal contribution do they both qualify for the badge of a specific category (ie, publish an AppGameKit game together as 1 artist/1 programmer, etc)?

@KeithC, since you seem to be checking up on this thread; did you ever get around to looking into [FPSC] Outbreak? You're a hard man to get ahold of these days.

Weeell, since I saw this thread - by chance - I wonder, does contributing a functions library count for anything??

Here it is: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=199868&b=6

Isn't a very active thread, I know, but I counted around 40 downloads so I guess maybe it's benefiting some people. Also, am working on a version 2.0 so there'l be even more functions in that and more advanced stuff.

Also I think, of the users without badges, TheComet, LBFN, 29 Games and myself have contributed quite a lot to the Newcomers board (Sorry if I left anyone out).

What about a badge for users who have stuck around for 10 years or more? A lifetime achievement/dedication award. I know there's at least a few of us still around that started with DB before TGC even existed.

Now that I think about it, I've used DB for half my life. Jeez I'm getting old.

You realise that "back in the day" is probably becoming older than some newer forum members real ages? Especially for those of us who were on the older forum for a couple of years or so before the new one (ie. older than our joined dates)?

Heh, good point that reminds me of some plugins I made for the original DBP editor. Something to do with code formatting (auto tabbing) and line/char counting if I remember rightly. Do I get a (outdated and defunct) badge? It's only about a decade old now...

This place was more like fields a decade ago...

Cheers

I don't know... The concept of asking for a badge seems kind of egoistic to me.... Unless you really have contributed as much as Hockeykid or Kravenwolf, you probably don't deserve one [yet]

Please note I'm only referring to fpsc above.

Something about people begging for badges and getting it just kinda ticked me off a little I guess.. Mean no offense

Cheers,

How about a badge for not really caring at all about badges, and seeing what people say when new weird badge types are thought of that lead to nothing useful? It could be a chocolate teapot. I would like such a badge. Or... not.... Mmm, chocolate will do. Or beer. Randomness badge?...

A quote from Van B.

If you think that this thread is about begging for a badge then you might want to look the word "begging" up in the dictionary, cause I haven't see anyone begging yet. If you might qualify for a badge, then I see no reason not to ask for it.

And by the way, it are just digital image's build out of pixels. So why be worried ( <-- is this the right word to use ??? ) about something that doesn't mean anything in real life ?

No offense afcourse.

And don't forget to have a awesome day.

I think the badges are meant as acknowledgement of things you've done. A nice little gesture to members of the forums. There are folks who do hard work and that can benefit the TGC community, there's criteria for folks receiving a badge and people might think they meet that criteria and this thread was meant as a place for people to inquire. Also, it gives people motivation, it may seem silly to work towards getting one, but it might be an extra push on a current goal. Also it might help people recognise people's expertise on the forum, I mean if you're talking to a 2D Media Maker, you might seek advice from them on 2D media and therefore ask them questions, also you might feel more inclined to trust their advice.

At least this is how I see the badge system. It is egotistical, but I don't think that's always a bad thing, like everything in life, it's about moderation. Big egos suck, but you need an ego to a degree and sometimes that ego needs to feed on something. A bit of praise here and there can help in that regard.

The reason I asked if I qualified was less of an ego thing, more of a "hey I released around half a dozen games to the community, surely that hasn't gone overlooked" thing.

Once projects slip off the first page of Program Announcements, the topics are shortly auto-locked and the projects get burred and often forgotten. I felt the badge system was a way to point out DBPro developers and say "hey, we didn't forget!"

There are many, many people deserving of badges around here if your going to be giving them out, always kind of made me feel slightly uneasy though. Particularly when it started with FPSC BOTB and there were no badges for DBP users etc. I remember Butterfingers being ribbed around here for being one of the first to have a BOTB badge.

I don't think it helps with new users or whatever when questions are asked, simply because they wouldn't either know what these badges were and the simple fact that answers are meaningful/helpful or they are not.

I personally wouldn't be asking for any badges as I believe they should be issued to users as acknowledgement for their achievements/generosity/value to the community and asking for this instead of receiving it, seems to me to diminish the value of any badges issued.

Having said that I can understand why Mods would want people to say if they feel they have been overlooked at this point but in the long run its going to disappoint some folks if they feel they aren't worthy when asking for them and they don't receive.

That's the one. With so many community members doing so many things it will never be a perfect system of distributing badges. But at least now there is something to fill the gap between nothing and the total awesomeness of a BOTB/Valued Member badge.

At the moment there has been a spate of retrospectively recognising achievements. That should die down and it will start being more meaningful.

i'd like to nominate EVOLVED as his (now-updated) advanced lighting offering continues to prove useful to many users, here.

and, how IanM has gone so long without badge acknowledgement for his matrix1 plugins that most of us use (among many other offerings to the community) is beyond be.
