Hey folks,

Have a quick question, is there currently any plan to expand the IDE capabilities of AppGameKit? We are enjoying the language itself, but the IDE is really becoming a thorn in our sides, especially as our engine grows. No function finding, no element lists, no code folding, no debugging and so on.... I'm trying to understand that they surely do not intend to leave it this way?

Secondly are there currently any alternatives?

Hope everyone is well! Thanks in advance for the info.

I have to agree, this IDE though better than Blitz Basics IDE,( but then again almost anything has more features than BB IDE) ,

needs at least code folding. when a project starts to be 10 screens tall its nice to zip some of it up so you can get to the meat of your project.

This language deserves a more robust IDE. even if it causes the price of AppGameKit to go higher. I have always felt it was a mistake to lower the price!.

Real programmers dont mind using money to make money. Though some of us just program for the fun of it, and yes, programming can be fun.

Oh and on a side note, still waiting for the compiler to work in XP.
Dont make me go all win7 on your a**es !!!, j/k

Would be nice though to be able to use the new betas since backing up my hard drive to install 7 sounds like a freakin nightmare. 500Gs on my main. not a fun thought at all.

There are plans for the IDE for some point early next year I believe. We at TGC are also using the IDE for our own work and understand the need for improvement.

I would agree and at the same time say this is why the IDEAL ide was born for Blitz, which is a nice ide I might add.

I couldn't have said that better.

That's good to know baxslash. I setup a project this morning in Visual Studio to have a look at the setup of T2 simply due to the fact I'm going through ide withdrawals

yes, I know IDEal well, used it all the time, when programming in Blitz Basic was cool lol still do some BB code, for ol' time sake.

Anyhow, just made the windows 7 jump, now AppGameKit 108 works. See what I go through for this language ,jk

happy programming and whatever else you all celebrate!!

If I could offer my humble opinion to baxslash and the AppGameKit team: I believe many of us, on the forum, are becoming frustrated with the IDE (including me) and would like to see it become more robust in the near future. It is to my belief that 3d support isn't that important at this point in AppGameKit, after all there are already other programs that support this and do this well (Unity which is hard for AppGameKit to compete with).
That's just my two-sense, I'd rather see a better IDE than some of these new functions (especially the 3d stuff because I could never see myself creating a 3d game). Thanks!

i don't use T1 myself, as I have the perfect ide with VS2010, but wouldn't it be simpler if the compiler would be a stand alone exe that accepts line parameters so that people can make their own editors or plug it in something like eclipse etc?

I think that's the way it is now. There's an application called "AGKCompiler". I remember hearing that someone was using their own IDE instead of Codeblocks.

I agree I use 2008 myself when I can, unfortunately not all of our team is proficient in C++ so therefore we use the T1 option. Tis why I made the comment above about firing up T2 just to stop the fever hehehe.

That being said, Hodgey is right I believe. If you pilfer through the directories you will find AGKCompiler.exe. Now whether or not this accepts command line parameters or not I dont know. However, if someone were fairly proficient with Scintilla (maybe Balid) they may be able to put something together in a couple of weeks using this.

There are already plans to start working on the IDE and the compiler and we are listening to what you would like to see. Hang in there and keep the suggestions coming!

TGC are doing quite some great work on AppGameKit recently!

Either Baxslash is holding them by the hair, or they got fed up with out complaints, and are now hitting us in the face with a lot of goodies!

I don't use T1 myself, but I'm glad you guys will get an improved IDE

We're just doing what we always do, trying to please everyone and produce something cool at the same time

I wish I could take the credit, I'm just making games.

I don't think you're just making games Baxslash.

since you joined TGC I noticed a more positive attitude from TGC, more betas, more answers...

My preferred "IDE" for AppGameKit TIER 1 development is EditPlus, although there are many other editors that can be customized very extensively and would make for good alternatives for Tier 1.

I have a slightly longer post about EditPlus, here:
