What is Dark Harvest ?

Dark Harvest is a first person horrific adventure largely inspired by the "Alien" franchise and focusing on storyline and gameplay.

The story so far.

The year is 2150, it's the golden age of space colonization, the glory of humanity had stretched on through time and space to the vanishing point of eternity. Sadly, a few galaxies are standing on the brink of war. Only the UMF ( United Military Forces ) keep trying to maintain a thin peace between certain inhabited quadrants.

UMFS Herona was heading back for UMF HQ, Earth, after one year in a simple "peacekeeping operation" on the mining colony of BR-2E. Nothing had happened and no-one ever did anything ( apart for mining of course ) in this god-forsaken place, Sgt. William Hicks was glad to coming home.

Unfortunately for him, the UMF sent him immediately aboard a remote Space Research Centre situated near the blue giant Bellatrix. That was the last place he wanted to go because he knew that it would be another boring mission with nothing to do but watching some surveillance screens.

Several days passed, but one morning ( or one night, who knows ? ), there was something strange about the eerie silence that shrouded the station, something was obviously very wrong. Driven by his curiosity, wanting to know what happened to the rest of the crew, he doesn't know that he's now all alone in this massive vessel and that he will meet evil in it's purest form.

Features

High quality graphics provided by heavy use of Pixel Shaders 3.0

Frightening and disturbing atmosphere

Highly interactive maps

Gameplay heavily based on survival rather than "Run and Gun"

Voice Acting ( in French for now, sorry )

Screenshots

The following screencaps have been taken at 1920x1080 with Antialiasing and max. Anisotropy set on 8 with an AMD Sapphire Radeon HD7770 graphics card and an AMD A10-5800K Quad-Core at 3.8 Ghz CPU

That's all I have to show you at the moment, thanks for reading.

Those are some pretty good looking screenshots there. If the gameplay is equally great, this should be a fantastic game here!

Really impressed with the screen shots there. The game is looking great. I like the story, sounds like a good base to start from.

What's the fps with the above scene? Have you tried it with characters yet?

You have only just the forums, but, i am guessing that you have previous experience with level design?

Great looking game so far. I will be watching this one.

Amazing work! The wall segments really set this game apart- (with the cleaver use of entities as well)! I love the style you have going for yourself here! I cannot wait to see more on this!

Hi all, it's great to see replies !

For Unfamilia :

Thank you, the story have been inspired by the back of the Alien Breed boxart, the protagonist's name was obtained by doing a blend between William Hudson and Dwayne Hicks, two characters from the movie Aliens.

The whole level runs smoothly on my PC at 125-235 FPS, no slowdown of any kind even when the characters' behaviours are triggered.

I think I'm gonna focus on fairly small but generously detailed maps, with a lot of scripted events and interactivity ( a bit useless but still amusing, it helps to tone down linearity a bit in a level^^ )

About my experience in level design, sort of, I was making maps for Doom II before, these days I'm pretty interested by doing mods for Skyrim, It would be great !

To the others

Thank you

I was wondering where you had got the protagonists name from! I was thinking that i recognised the name, so i googled it. The results lead me to a colonel who served in the first world war.

Thats a nice fps; have you got a powerful setup?

As I - and many others - have said, its looking great so far, so, keep up the good work.

I'm not a native english speaker but what do you mean by 'having a powerful setup', are you talking about my setup.ini tweaks ?

My rig is made of an AMD Sapphire Radeon HD7770 graphics card, an AMD A10-5800K Quad-Core at 3.8 Ghz CPU and the latest DX11 binaries

About the game, I was thinking about dividing the ship in four "decks", each with a different colour scheme to avoid desinterest from players.

The first one will be the science deck ( featured on screenshots ), always clean, with heavy use of blue lighting with some touches of green/cyan

The second one is the maintenance bay, totally rusted, dirty, dark, full of harmful and noisy machineries and with a orange/yellow-ish lighting.

The third one : the military zone, less dangerous than the maintenance bay but with heavy security systems such lazer barriers, blast doors and turrets, the lighting will be mostly green.

The last deck are The living quarters, the most colorful of all the four decks, with what i call "present-day lighting".

Here's a skin i did recently, not very interesting I suppose, but i just LOVE it, I've shortened the barrel and removed stock by doing some clever editing on the textures.

I know that is hardly noticeable but the words "Chill out, ..." ( a wink from Terminator 2 ) are engraved on the barrel side, Maybe i should move it to a more visible spot... the main inspiration for making this texture was that weapon.

the french voiceacting I guess

Thehe!

Anyway: You have some fantastic screenshots so far!
You are talented in how you use these shaders which can either make or break (usually break) an FPSC Games look. The lightmapping is bright and well done but has an eeriee touch and you seem to have a coherent colorpallette that has a neat futuristic feel to it.

I like that prop with the green tubes in it. (first screenshot top right).

So far this looks like a very solid game! Keep it up.

Altough you totally stole that idea with having the healthpacks on that pillar from cosmics pakc from me...admit it!! (third screenshot to the right, next to xray pictures)

Best luck with your further development.

Hello, yes i've been inspred by one of your screen, most of the threads here help me very well when I don't have much inspiration

You know, I can change that if you want to.

Not at all!! My scifi projects are pretty much dead, they didnt "fit" into the memorycap

If they inspire an other user, at least they serve a purpose.

No, it's just that i'm a really really busy person since the beginning of September, especially during this week, i'm about to get a job as a reviewer for a french videogaming website even if nothing has been confirmed yet..

Best of luck to you then! I will tell you one thing though, being a game journalist isn't all it's cracked up to be in reality. I used to be a part of two sites that did news articles and game reviews; its not the best time for people who are already busy on their own. When you are required to write so many articles a day and then take time out of your life to rush through a game so you can then WRITE UP a review for that... it gets pretty overwhelming in the end result. It was never a good payoff in the end for me. Maybe it will be for you.

I don't think it's very "well paid", but at least ( if they are interested ) i'll have a job, and I think it's the most important thing

Very nice looking, I was actually drawn to the thread by the game title, and was pleasently surprised with the nice looking screen shots.

Best of luck with this one.
