Astrum Erus: Starlord Omega
is a sci-fi turn-based strategy game
under development for 3 years now.
Starlord Alpha was completed and released in october 2004 as a programming test.
Starlord Omega will be orders of magnitude better, and is scheduled for release
Summer 2006. Many important aspects of the game are programmed at this time,
and all have at least preliminary mechanics models.

this project is so far the work of just one person, me, Bob Saunders.
but i can't do everything myself...
i mean to search around the local art school (art institute of pittsburgh), but i am also hoping to find some help here.

Things The Project Needs Your Help With:

GUI ARTIST:
i can make a functional user interface. i am looking for someone who can help
me make one that looks really good. It needs a general visual theme to tie all the
screens together, and needs to have a futuristic/technical look. since i am not done with
all the screens, this would need to take place over time.

ALIEN RACE MODELER:
Done, Thanks to this team request, and a friend called French GUI.
see below for screenshot for HIS progress in this area.

2D ENVIRONMENT / BACKGROUND ARTIST:
need space-scenes...planets, stars, ships, fights, black holes, etc.
these would be used as background to certain screens or events, like
when loading, waiting for other players, behind an otherwise boring screen, etc.

2D / 3D COMPONENT MODELER:
need 2d pictures (bmp, jpg, etc.) that depict researchable technologies.
could be a separate picture for every type of tech, or some other system you devise.
could be modeled then rendered, or created in a 'paint' program.

PLAYTESTERS
need people who will play thru the various aspects of the game,
throughout alpha and beta testing. playtesters need to give honest, complete feedback.
at this time, only the 'tactical starship combat' model is available for testing.
a version of the main game may be released for testing if there is interest.

French GUI's awesome alien races:

Anyone who would like to try to help, i would appreciate it.
i especially want those alien heads and bodies.
i think that has real potential.

Oh my.

It has been SO LONG since I saw a real Team Request than people just asking "I got FPSC the other day am I need someone to script, another person to do graphics, a modeler and a music, oh and I bring ideas but no talent to the group."

IBOL. I will give you some time starting next week.

the amount of work that seems to have gone into this already deserves this post to be sticky for at least 24 hours.
amazing...

If no-one gives your an answer to a question you have asked, consider:- Is your question clear.- Did you ask nicely.- Are you showing any effort to solve the problem yourself 

BLIMEY! , a REAL team request! haven`t seen one of those for years, looks good so far, a pity you mostly want artists cos I havent a single artistic cell in my carcass, if you want a playtester I will be glad...nay PROUD, to help.

take note kiddies...this is how to do a REAL team request, not a cube on a matrix with a bad gun model stuck to the camera and a request for everyone else to do the work

Me!

we know where area 51 is, but where are areas 1 to 50?, and what do they do there?.

Hi Ibol, your project seems really good, it remind me Master of Orion (which I love!). Just a question: why your aliens ,humans or robots need to be 3d models? What are the use of it? Are you interrested by bitmap of their heads?

French i think he is using there 3d heads for the diplomacy part of the game like every game of this type. The diplomacy menus useually have a picture of the alien race you are contacting.

Yes, that's what I've understood but I was asking him if he wants to have bitmaps rather than 3d models for that.

french gui,
2D was originally the way i wanted to go, but no one seemed keen on
doing it that way, so i switched to 3d models. with 3D you can
scale and texture the models, but with 2D i can not.

if you can produce me enough good quality alien pictures in 2D
i would very happily switch to that format. this goes to anyone.
BUT if 1/2 people were working on 2D and half were 3D it would be BAD.

[edit]
PS: Oh my god man french gui i love what you posted in my team request thread.
if you can do more of that, then screw all this 3D talk. awesome.
[/edit]

thanks all,
bob

Is this the kind of thing you need?
It's low poly but I can make it higher if you wanted.
It's textured too, but I have the blank texture file.

hey cazzer, yeah, that was the kind of thing i need...
but now i've got someone who is working 2D, and doing well.

if you want to go on making some of those, as high-poly as you like,
and produce some 2D renders of them id be very happy to have them
and the more alien you can make them, the better...5 eyes, 6 mouths,
7 tentacles coming out of 8 noses, weird shaped heads, etc.

thanks, and i hope to see your results,
bob

thanks to this thread, i can offer a new screen:
prototype race relations screen:

while trade and treaty negotiation has been prototyped,
it has not been incorporated here yet; it's still separate.

it's amazing how much progress you can make when you have
just one new person on your side!

here is a screenshot from Planetary Bombardment Screen.
not much to look at really, BUT the implications!

you can now attack (and destroy) enemy planets!
you even have to fight the ships in orbit first.

unfortunately it's currently all a statistical, not graphical, model.
but of course that will change...

i'm working on a gameplay demo release

Titan Class battleships really was an Idea that is stupid. Past-to present tense, eh? I dont like it. It is very strange. Super-dreadnaught sounds more powerful. I would imagine a Titan class as maybe a battleship, and a Super-Dreadnaught as planetary or star sized.

eh, I am working on a web site, and I still need to finish more on the game to make wip. I have a strong belief in that you should be able to at least START an empire and grow around the universe before I post wip. But I am definiatly working on my website. Right now I am in a "bug fix" I have worked 3 hr on fixing bugs, that I was waiting to fix. I want to fix them now so they dont distract me later. lol. they can be found http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=63335&b=1
menu. Arg. Sorry about taking space in your thread. . oh, yah. My site should be up in a few days. lol leys bought a domain, because I fixed his web-site. maybe his friend did? eh I dont care. it was a fair trade edit: apparently leys wants to work on it too. So i will probably have more bug squashing time
edit edit: Wow, sitrep was easy, and I have made my code 10x more efficient.

Quote: "Titan Class battleships really was an Idea that is stupid"

Wow thank you, next time i'll ask your premission to give a idea of mine. we all cant be as right as you.

IMHO Titan is a common Sci-fi term, something prob the designer over looked. I read Titan ,i see a massive ship. but still nothin STAR size!! no deathstars

---------------------------------------------------------------------
let's see how stupid i realy am.

Titan noun.

1 Greek Mythology. One of a family of giants, the children of Uranus and Gaea, who sought to rule heaven and were overthrown and supplanted by the family of Zeus.

(first one fits)

2 titan One of prodigious size, strength, or achievement

(second fits)

3 Titan, The largest satellite of Saturn and the 11th in distance from the planet. It is the second largest satellite in the solar system

(maybe too much space in this one.)

how about a Thesaurus. lets see....
big mother, blimp, brobdingnagian, colossal, cyclopean, elephantine, enormous, gargantuan, giant, gross, herculean, huge, humongous, immense, jumbo, mammoth, massive, moby, monster, monstrous, mungo, prodigious, stupendous, super-colossal, super-duper, titan, titanic, tremendous, vast, whaling .

and it means what to you? geeze.. i wuold not want my largest ship to be a Titan class for sure. Must mean small, little, tiny,YOUNG

yeah realy stupid. if i was a kid i'ld prob be looking for ways to insult others too.

heh. I wasnt looking to insult you. I hate things based on myth. I really dislike the planets name, and really anything that has to do with ancient names. You spent an entire post trying to get back on me. wow. mature. At least I talked about something else.
Anyway: Maybe if I can get my own GUI up, then I could help on yours IBOL.

Yes. His style is simple, and I like that. I want to keep the gui (if I can help) very simple. Infact, so simple that it isnt funny. I really hope it is multi-player. I would love a game of this standard to be a multiplayer game
