Hello All:

As some of you may know, there were things that don't exactly work in FPSC when it was released due to time constraints.

Until now.

With the release of the Source Code for FPSC Builds, I have been working on getting issues that were not working in the original plus my own personal interest.

Introducing Riker 9

Riker 9 is a new build of FPSC with fixes, improvements, and other odds and ends to make the FPSC even a better product than it already is. Riker 9 is NOT a replacement for the FPSC program, for the GUI interface of the FPSC will NOT change, only the EXE that is built when you compile the game.

Currently working on a list in this order:

Save Game at any point
Load Game from a menu
Land Mines
Faster Frame Rate

Nothing will be released until the 5.9 is out of BETA. Also note that I do not work for TGC so if you have problems with the Riker 9 build, don’t go screaming to them.

@Ultrahead:

There is a few things I need to work on, only had the Source for about 2 hours.

Example:
sync on : sync rate 30 : autocam off : disable systemkeys

Obviously they set the sync rate to 30. I can easily turn this off BUT they set it for a reason. I need to investigate why they did this.

To answer your question, "How faster is the Frame rate".

Much.

Maybe it has to do with MP, a/o with the fact that certain segments produce a decrease in frame rates.

@BULLSHOCK 2:

Yes, it is the correct line. The purpose of sync rate 30 is to "force" the system to run at 30, even though it is trying to run much faster. It is like going downhill on a tricycle, the tricycle is trying to go faster but you cannot pedal that fast. So sometimes it will run faster until the software slows it down.

@Ultrahead:
I am pretty positive it has to do with Multiplayer as well as Delta Time code that at this moment I don't see any of it.

@Zero #43:

Ah, that's my bread and butter that I am working on. It's going to be sweet.

Currently I am building the arrays to save all the positions of the Enemies and entities (yes, you can have allies that shoot the enemy AND kill them) and the status of what they are. Once that is completed, then I can get the Load/Save menu looking great.

This sounds great, can't wait till you are finished with it!

I am going to tear into the source when I get home as well, my goal is to allow for working flashlight in game.

Are you going to be working on any of the lighting features?

Why is there a 'Delete last waypoint selected' procedure in the game engine? Ditto for 'Insert' and other staff for the editor itself. Now I understand the following:

Quote: "You CANNOT make 'game creation' or 'level editor' software with this code"

The question then becomes: why wasn't the code related to the editor separated from the game engine's one in the first place? Reducing then the game-exe file size ...

Are lightmaps and portals calculated each time the game exe is executed? If so, maybe there's a way to pre-calculate them, so that the each level loads faster ...

Any plans for an inventory system?

That may prove to be a large task, but invaluable to the FPS genre.

I may attempt to mess around with it

Will Riker 9 also stop the switching weapons problem I've been struggling with in the last few days..?

You should definently give your updates to TGC, these features NEED to be in V2.

When FPSC gets good enough, lets make a Redwall game!

Switching weapons is now an option with the script (basically a user setting). By setting AUTOSWITCHWEAPONS=1, it will automatically switch to the better weapon you have in your inventory.

Save Game now working. Checking on "Loading" the save game.

Any changes you wish to have included in the next version of FPSC, you can e-mail them to either mike@thegamecreators.com or robert@thegamecreators.com

Please because of the complexity of the source, include a small text file that has line numbers and short blurb on what you changed.
As it'll take ages to compare sources, or why they were changed.

Up to you, it's easier on Mike for me to handle the updates comming in as then he can get them in a single update every week or so.

I'll be working on a version of the source, trying to clean it up and make it more programmer friendly. Most important thing is to try and free Mike up more so that he can concentrate on DBP more, as his attention will be split.

You can alredy lean left and right by pressing Q or E. Not sure if those are the right keys.

@Ultrahead - Many people seem to be unsure of what excatly the source code is. The source is only for the engine, which takes care of built games (This is also the 'FPSC-Game.exe' file in the FPS Creator root folder. It handles the scripts, models and compilation of the game. It does not include any part of the editor; TGC would be insane to release that code.

Alright, I was thinking of a similar update tbh. Don't like cluttered interfaces with things not used. Also think some of the interfaces need a little redesigning to be more 'Idiot-proof'

being a fully qualified idiot, this helps to redesign

Asctually the view just seems to slide, rather than lean. Again this is something I'd personally like to change, make it similar to Unreal 2; where you can change the lean and distance amount.

Sure. I don't have a problem freeing Mike up.

@Professor:
I don't see a problem with that. It would be in the scripting system for one user may what you to lean out 30 degrees while another may want you to lean 45 degrees. Should be fairly simple.

@JDforce:
As soon as the 5.9 build is finalized, I will be posting the modified source code for testing. You will need Dark Basic Pro 5.9, Enhancement Pack 3.0 in order to build the code.

Ok, ive noticed that in most of the videos, the guns did not kick, i mean theres an animation and all, but the screen doesnt move..It would be cool if it would kick like DF:BHD (Delta Force: Black Hawk Down)

Is there a way to set sound levels seperately for music and effects (such as walking). Currently the volume effects both so if you want to raise the volume of music the footsteps are way to loud. I was hoping that maybe you could add that ability in Riker 9.

I can add it in as a script and the "Player Setup" screen can set it (With a little GUI Interface, also allowing you to set up the Screen Size, Keyboard Layout, Music/Sound Volumes) and Riker 9 can read the script.

the guns have recoil animations, and he notes this... which is why i'm not too sure what he means. So an animation of it would be helpful.

Coding in weapon accuracy wouldn't take too long. Technically speaking it should already be available, there's dual weapons and secondry fire abilities in the engine already. Just not exposed for use atm
