Well, the melee experiments paid off!

Got a basic sword ingame, as a bonus the enemies pick it up and use it, but they think it's a very close range pistol As far as the player goes, it's a pretty powerful close range melee weapon, no brass or smoke or flak, and unlimited ammunition.

Now I have to figure out how to get rid of the muzzleflash from the enemies weapons! And add in a little sword animation for the enemies too.

Yes it is a little silly looking, my first model in years beyond experimental cubes, and just learned how to skin in milkshape.

I did it!!! I am really excited... [/img]

Update: Another easy fix... made a copy of shootclose.fpi, called it meleeclose.fpi. In it, lowered the range and changed the decal to one that doesn't show up.

You going to release it?

I say exactly what's on my mind, like "Imagine your grandpa in a speedo" or "I eat Jell-O while waxing the table" and my personal favorite, "I drink bathtub water"

Hmm, good job! It's interesting. If you release it free, i would download it to see how you did that. A while ago, i discovered how but i forgot with the time.

I think you just limit how far the bullets go, and make a swinging animation for it.

After that, it's just a problem with scripts!

It's somewhat more than that. Took a while to figure out, but now I can do it pretty quickly.

Recognizing that this may not be the best way, but it works:
Reduce range, change damage type, remove smoke, brass, decal, muzzleflash.

I still can't change the bulletholes without modifying the source code.

If a few others are interested I will take the time to put all the folders together and post it up.

Here are the files for the sword (called KeenBlade in the editor)

I will be working on some tweaks and other medieval/melee weapons to be released in a pack hopefully near Christmas.

Can we use it in commercial games? And also, may I upload it to cdbgames.com?

Yes! The only restriction (included in the license file) is that it cannot be sold as a model, or as part of a modelling pack.

The animation and model and texture are all very quickly done, I wouldn't consider them commercial quality by any standards. I whipped them up to test melee weapons.

Do yuo have any plans to either make, or get someone to make animations for melee weapons? I am extremely interested in this as I have a project (Redwall The Game) that requires the use of melee weapons. And things like bows and arrows, crossbows etc.

When FPSC gets good enough, lets make a Redwall game!

Yes, I will be working on the animations over the next couple of weeks. I'm a quick study and should be able to get decent pretty quickly.

I have been following the Redwall thread, I'm a Redwall fan too

As far as medieval weapons, the next ones will be longbow and crossbow, spear, mace, dagger, axe.

There should be an additional one, I believe it is flash8. The other one you can just leave alone... when I compiled my game, the FPSC thought I had made changes to flash4. I might have opened it up and saved it by accident. Anyway, the important one is flash8

one thing that would be nice is if the meleeclose.fpi script had some better AI in it, I think that would help the "entity's not attacking" problem people are having around here. If you want, I can see if I can get Merrenvo on the case.

EDIT: Of yes, I forgot, I found a better sound effect for the sword swinging, for anyone that wants it, here ya go. You don't have to rename it or anything, just place it where the old one is, when prompted, click "yes" to overwrite the last file.

When FPSC gets good enough, lets make a Redwall game!

I have made a mace already, and I want to make more melee weapons.
Only thing is, I can't animate them.
If I supply you with .X models, would you consider animating them for me?

oh, ok. Umm, I must admit... I have NEVER seen a Zelda game played. I've seen commercials and such of it, but I'm not really into PLAYING games, just making them... then playing the ones I make

Sunflash: Yeah I used to feel this way but playing games really gives you some ideas for making them. Just as long as you're not producing clones of the games you're playing.

ww2 fanatic: I can dig that! Would exporting terrain as a .x and importing it as an entity not work? too memory hungry?

Hey, Um, I can't get Merrenvo to respond to me on his forum. And since it's a weapon you would apply the script to, I don't think it will work.

Actually, an entity with a good melee script would work really well.... when I have time I will try. spread thin with many issues!

Also, yes to the terrain, quite possible and works quite well.

What you said about learning hings from other games is REALLY true, everytime I play a game, I learn somthing from it, I really should invest more time in it

Do you mind if we get rid of "Keen Blade"?
Also, the blade turns into a hammer when you swing.

Do whatever you like!! It may look like a hammer because my animation skills are not as developed as they could be... it is the same model though

Good Work!

FPS *needs* melee weapons. If you could provide the script etc. to do this I can provide everyone with a host of 3d weapons I've done up.

1. Mace
2. Sword
3. Club
4. Spear
5. Axe Small
6. Axe Large
7. Baseball Bat
8. Iron Rod
9. Bloody Fists
10. Foot (with boot)

and a bunch more..
