The game involves thinking about how you can use the environment agianst the enemy, using storage crates for cover, waiting for the right time to attack. or just looking for escape routes and ways to advance.

I shall give you an example, this is the very first puzzle:

player in cell with a chair, a table, a high window and some crates at the back of the cell (and a bed of course)

Solution:
Pick up chair, climb on crate, break window with chair. put crate on top of largest crate, jump up crates, climb out window.

Another:
Player (unarmed) is just out of range of a patrolling enemy alien, there are some crates and some explosive artillery shells nearby.

Solution:
Wait until enemies back is turned, run up to crate and hide, wait again for enimies back to be tured, run, pick up shell, throw at enimies back...BOOM!

Too easy or too hard?

And can anyone give me some puzzle ideas?

Hi,

It's always easy when you know the answer, I tried to read it without looking at the solution, & in your first example I got as far as trying to get up to the window using the furniture. Didn't immediately think of using the chair (largely because I can't remember the last time I broke a window in a game using a chair).

The second one was a little easier.

How reliant is your idea on these Puzzle Set-pieces? I only ask because each puzzle will probably only occupy a few minutes (maybe) of thinking what to do followed by a minute of enacting the decided upon solution.

I absolutely loved the Thief series which is the perfect example of Brain-over-Brawn in First Person games but even that was largly limited to learning the enemies' patrols etc.

I like the idea of looking at things from a different perspective though:

- You have only one bullet left are there are six enemies in the encampment. Spotting a barrel of Hazardous Materials near the camp you fire upon this, the resulting explosion kills all the enemies and clears your path.

- Whilst trying to break into a heavily protected building it seems like an impossible task, that is until you intentionally set-off the alarm and in the ensuing disruption you are able to slip by unnoticed.

Cheers.

Opus games, as an answer to your third paragraph:

Hi,

Thanks for posting a Demo, however for some reason I can't get it to run:

-Saved it to Desktop, extracted, ran exe, Black Screen.
-Moved to FPSC folder, ran exe, Game Creators logo, Black Screen.
-Moved to FPSC/My Games, ran exe, GC logo, loaded one of my maps?!

I'm still working through FPSC so yet to deal with the 'Packing Games for Distribution' aspect, any ideas?

BTW, after re-reading my first reply, the first half does come across a bit negative (I'm intuitively critical) so my apologies for that.

I look forward to playing your demo and offering you positive/constructive feedback .

Cheers.

Cheers.

Just played it quickly, got as far as the room with the three guys in it. Didn't use the chair, intead jumped on the crates to look out the window and the Guy shot the glass trying to get to me, I liked that.

The map clearly demonstrates that with a little imagination you're on your way to putting something together that isn't all Bang Bang, Die Die, I guess that means I was wrong .

One point though, was I meant to start with a weapon, or perhaps find one? Because being shot and not being able to do anything about it is annoying.

I see this working one of/or two ways:

1. AI Blindspots - Give the player more room to hide from the AI behind crates etc.

2. Defence/Offence - Give the player some sort of Defence (I tried using one of the Crates as a shield when meeting the 3 Guys together) -and/or- give the player a limited use/ammo weapon.

One thing that did pop into my head whilst playing it was how much it reminded me of an old TV show called Knightmare (ITV, UK). That was all about identifying the components of the room and how to progress, if I can find anything usefull I'll pass it on.

OG.

i tried making a puzzle game awhile ago, this seems more like stealth than puzzle so far, but who the heck cares. When i made my puzzle game, here are the main puzzles i thought of, just incase you need ideas...

1) Stacking boxes to reach higher places
2) building a bridge with boards (VERY HARD)
3) a switch puzzle
4) jumping from one place to another over molten lava
5) make a code or message spelled out with boards in the begginging of the level, and make it so they need that code to win, like witch door to go through, or witch switch to flip
6) hit a sertain switch that will drop an explosive on a badguy, or drop another bad guy
7) A room filled with a grid and a letter in each box of the grid, have it so ever box you step in will kill you except for some withc will spell out a message (connects with number 5)
8) Witch badguy to shoot, shoot the wrong onem and you lose (havnt tried tht, might work though)

there, i hope those help you in your puzzle game, i have no idea why i posted them because they were kinda hard to make, and i was goin to use em, but who the shiz wiz cares, make a good puzzle, i wanna play it, i love puzzle games!

dont assume cause ull make an ass out of you and me!
