Finished? Post it in the Entry thread
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=76708&b=3

Contest duration - 14th April - 24th April
Voting duration- 24th April - 28th April

First of all I'll quote Heckno
Quote: "
Being a huge Robotech fan in my youth; I think a great compo would be for any type of Mech style unit, limit of 7K polys should give enough resource to work on minor details of the units if desired. Judging should be on both model style and texturing... GL All...

Edit: since mechs are very easy to create I hope everyone with a 3-d program will participate..."

Thats his set rule, so basically;
Model a mech style unit
Maximum of 7k polys (So we'll need a screenshot of the polycount with the model for proof, and a wireframe screenshot)
Judged on style, model and texturing

And the usual rules apply;
Rules:
Your entries only
One entry per person
When voting only vote for one person
Do not vote entrants for a non present third party (so, you can't say I vote for Jim and Bob votes for Jim, if Bob wants to vote, tough unless he's a local forum member)
When voting, you can't vote for yourself
No entries in the wip thread
No Wips in the entry thread
Little or no chat in the entry thread
Be supportive, no horrible comments
All behave
WHEN YOU HAVE FINISHED, ONLY POST IT IN THE ENTRY THREAD, I WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR MISSING ENTRIES, I WILL NOT GO BACK FOR OTHER ENTRIES

And of course, have fun

For the winner:
You get to choose the next topic of the contest, so sorry people, as usual no prizes, maybe one day I'll find something to give away.

Yey! I removed the sig...

So, we're talking mech as in the robot-warrior type dudes from Mech Warrior/Mech Assult?

No I meant in general for this contest are we trying to base the models off of the style from the robots in the games (Big, Guns like hell, Compartment for a soldier, booster on back, etc) or is it just a "any robot goes" kind of thing? (This question's for Musashi)

Yup mech warriors, like this one;

Or like Ooga Boogas, basically any Mech unit you want, and well Heckno gave Robotech as an example, perhaps look at it

[edit]

This is a robotech Mech;

My wip... This will be like the foot of it. Or depending on the poly count, I might make each of these like toes or something.

Heres my WIP: Right now i'm calling it the Jaguar.

and the other side:

Obviously legs are still a neccesity and there are probably things I'll change to the torso/arms. 4725 polies so far, so ill have to be careful.

in response to Ruccus's questions : Mechwarrior is perhaps the most notable in way of Mech units, I only gave Robotech as my example because I grew up with Veritechs (Mech type units from the show)

On a side note: kid shows/cartoons were better back then when people, villains, monsters actually got killed... That friggin' Teletubbie/Barney garbage is going to turn kids either into mass murders or sissies...

Ooga ,could you tell me where in blender you can see how much polies model have.

I know there are vertices, faces and edges, but where are polies?

Sory for this question, it's little off topic but I can't find answer to it .

@Mike, Nice model, looks cool at this stage, but it might be just be, but it look like the legs won't support the body, and for extra detail the knife/cut tool can be your best friend (Where you add lines to polygons)

@Ooga booga, nice looks like a helicopter thats been modded into a mech, good work though

I might enter this one if...
A - I preorder Hexagon 2 in time
B - If Hexagon 2 is released in time
Just hope its a stable app like the demo for Hexagon 1 and unlike modo

Thanks, Musashi. It probably wouldn't support itself you're right, but we'll just assume it's a mech from the future with extra re-enforced steel or something. I've included a side picture. I might do a quick texture job on it as well.

--------------------------------------------------
Side note:
I'm liking the looks of Hexagon 2 and might pre-order it myself! Just downloaded a trial of Hexagon 1. Once I see how well the texturing tools and uv options are, I will make my decision. Honostly am fed up with my current tools(other than wings3d of course )).

Hexagon 1 unfortunately does have what makes hexagon 2 look sweet, but is pretty powerful itself, meaning Hexagon 1 has no texturing tools and a basic UV tool (Well I haven't found the texturing tools in Hexagon 1)
I think Hexagon basically serves the same as wings, just a side modeller to speed up your work flow in which you integrate into your prefered modelling/animation/rendering app, but has a lot more than wings, to me its just basically saving me money on buying Zbrush and Bodypaint 3D and speeding up some of my modelling.

And is light as a feather You never know it might happen

Nack Im afraid you can't enter something that you made before the contest began, or maybe i just misunderstood what you said. Looks sweet tho!

@Icecube: Thanks lol I guess it does look sorta like a dog, with chainguns for ears.

@RAM: I believe that 'faces' is polies. At least thats what I go by.

@Musasi: Lol maybe it could be a dog-copter. I'll probably stick with Jaguar tho.

He's right on that rule, it makes the contests more fair, I just realised I missed that rule when posting them Then again I just copy and pasted it out of notepad, so I'll fix that.

Jaguar sounds nice ooga, dog-copter sounds better, simply because it would be a real dog of war

[edit]
@MikeS (Again) If you are interested in Hexagon 2, you can buy Hexagon 1 packaged and get the electronic upgrade to vers. 2 when its released later this month, or wait until its released and buy the version itself

---------------------------------Sorry, off topic again----------

Yeah, I saw that offer in their newsletters, so that's why I'm contemplating buying it right now. Posting a few questions on their forums first though. The new (micro)displacement tools look quite interesting. This could save me $300, rather than buying ZBrush(which I've found quite hard to pick up, but still a good tool nonetheless).

---off topic too---
Yeah I found Zbrush hard to pick up, however Hexagon has already grown on me, and what? I've made 3D models, however if I do not preorder it with the purchase of vers 1, I'll prolly buy it normal soon after the offer ends, I mean it looks like it has a good intergration between Cinema 4D judging from other users...

To save any more off topic talk, may as well use my hexagon thread, only makes sense

Models made are all purpose use by the modeller, they just have to be made specifically for the contest, anything you do with them is up to you
