We've had debates if FPSC can be used for a commercial valid game. The answer by now is definite yes!

I'm very proud to announce that my FPSC game The Commander Josh Chronicles has been accepted by a publishers and is being offered by them right here: http://www.manifestogames.com/node/2424

As far as I know this is the first FPSC game that is being published commercially by a publisher.

I'm working a sequel to the game as a entry to the TGC/nVidia contest. As you can read in the story, the publisher, ManifestoGames is open to release a sequel also, but that depends on succes of the current title.

So head over to the publishers website and check it out and if you like it throw in some support as well

Cool,Ben.
I always liked that game and the concept behind it.
Just goes to show no matter how old you get there's nothing more fun than a supersoaker!
Good luck with this.

Thanks for all the comments, I'm excited about this publishing adventure and eager to see what will come from it.

They can't and they're not killing anything at all in the game. The player's enemies are Androids and you power them down with waterguns.

I spotted your game on Manifesto's front page a day or two ago, but thought I'd wait until you made an 'official' announcement before mentioning it. Congratulations!

Uhh... i think people just said that big publishers simply wouldn't evan look at this games, but there are thousands of publishers out there who would get their hands on everything as long they get some bucks from it

Anyway, i bet you're pretty proud being the 1º one no? (I shure i would XD)

Anyway, good job, keep them comming

Uhh... and 1 last gratz for you being the 1º one having a FPSC game in a publisher

My love is seperated in 2 parts, 1 of them is 3ds Max 7, the other; FPSC.

Money, money, money, money, it's all about the money, isn't it?

Higgins that's way to early to ask, so again in a few months, it's been there for only a few days and publishers only pay once a month anyway.

But, since the game has been for sale on my website for much longer already, I can answer the question with yes, I've made money of the game.

Quote: "Uhh... i think people just said that big publishers simply wouldn't evan look at this games, but there are thousands of publishers out there who would get their hands on everything as long they get some bucks from it "

Nope, that's not true at all. Publishing a game costs money, so publishers do not just pick any game. They have to see a good potential in it. Do you have any idea how much games are being created each year and how little actually get published?

I consider it an honor that Manifesto games has chosen Commander Josh to be published. They're being offered lot's and lot's of games each day and yet only select a few to be published. They just don't publish anything that comes along. I've offered the game to them about 2 months ago, they carefully considered it, we've negotiated a bit and in the end we were able to come to an agreement. They seem to be picky in what they choose or decline.

I really do wish you're statement about the thousands of publishers wanting to make a quick buck was true, I would be a rich man by now, but unfortunally the truth is different.

As for big or small publishers, I don't care. I'm not interested in big publishers anymore. I've dealt with them in the past, it's no fun. Especially not when I did get the contract and noticed the awefully small percentage they offered me in return and the huge amount they kept for themselves. I declined, after all I put all the hard work in it and yet the offer me only a few percent of the revenue made. I don't make my games for someone else to become rich. I do make them for fun and hope to make a little money of them. If a good publisher with a good deal wants to help me put the fun I create into other peoples hands, fine with me. but if a publishers just wants my hard work to make money of it, I'm not interested.

Anyway back to the game. I really do hope the game will become a huge succes so that it will pave the way for more FPSC titles to be published!

Ben, do they pay you even if you dont make any money, or do you have to make sales to earn?

Because Iam thinking, because you gave them the game to sell, you should earn some thing for them having it.

They pay me a percentage of the sales, most publisher do it this way. There are very few who pay an amount upfront, that only happenend once to me. I didn't give them the game, they're just publishing it for me. The copyrights are still mine and I'm free to sell it throught my own website or through other publishers if I want to.

They're selling it on my behalf, they don't own the game, so if it doesn't sell they don't own me a thing and I don't own them a thing either.

Cool! But even if you don't find a publisher do as CE suggested: publish it yourself. It's the best way to start and perhaps from there your game may get noticed.

Quote: "I'd buy it now but the recent DBP addons I've purchased (and will purchase) are really digging a hole in my pocket "

That's OK, I don't have money to buy everything I want to. Anyway IF the sequel will be released, you don't have to buy at all, since it will be using your AI and as promised you'll get a copy of the game in the return

Quote: "I hope it does well over the holidays and beyond. "

That's my hope also. At first the guys from Manifesto didn't think that everything would be ready to get the game out before the holidays, but in the end they managed after all.

Game looks nice

Congrats on the publishing deal!

Wait a minute, If that got published, what about the many FPSC games that are just as; if not more, deserving to be published?

Again good on you

What can I say? Ask the publisher.... Perhaps none of the others has submitted their game..... Perhaps the others weren't good enough.... Perhaps the others are better, but haven't finished the game.... I don't know, but all I know is that your statement is an under-estimation of the game it self.

but once again, thanks everyone for the cool comments.

Yippee!

Lol, anyways, Ben, would you like to test some new AI scripts I'm working on? The tactical ones I mentioned - obviously can't truly communicate with other enemies but can give the illision of working together...though I did think of making it so if an enemy is badly hurt it would 'activate' another which would attempt to draw your fire/act more aggressivly.

Sounds cool, I did use an AI with 3D GameStudio A6 that had these options, the original Commander Josh 3D was being developed in 3DGS, until I encoutered some major engine flaws. Sure, I'd love too test for you, just contact me by email.

Unfortunally I didn't see that, I'm in the Netherlands and they've stopped carrying most of the foreign magazines in my town. If you could scan the page for me, that would be great!

I'm impressed with the way Manifesto handles everything. I've got games with a number of (smaller) publishers, but Manifesto handles everything very professional. Prompt replies to emails, friendly assistance and their willing to discuss what ever you want to discuss with them. Most publishers treat you like on of a million, Manifesto was much more personal.
