Adding New Commands to FPI List

Click on Add/Edit Commands to FPI List

If you need help with this use the Help file.

1. Click on Help
2. Click on How to Use FPI EditPad
3. Click on Add Commands to FPI List

Manually Adding New Commands to FPI List

Tips for Search/Replace

* After clicking on "Find" to locate the first occurrence of desired word, then use the function key <F3> to find the next occurrences. Using the dialog box will necessitate having to click twice on the "Find" dialog window. However, using the function key will immediately take you to the next occurrence.

* To delete a list item open the drop down box and then click on the item you wish to delete. The delete button will appear and you can then click on the delete button. A confirmation message box will then appear.

Key Features:

* Capability of editing not only FPI files but also FPE, FPS, TXT, and INI files.
* Highlighted keywords. (FPI only)
* Syntax checking. (FPI only)
* Keyword check. (FPI only)
* Multiple undo/redo.
* Special Inserts - Hud definition builder, FPI template
* Multiple documents editor
* Find and Replace
* Save selected text to a repository file.
* Manage your repository files from within the editor
* Print your files
* Full screen edit
* Extensive Help files with examples (Still a WIP)
* Option for selecting your FPSC path
* Associate file names FPI, FPS and FPE - automatically setup upon installation
* You can also manually associate INI and TXT files
* You can add, edit, and delete the command list programmatically (from within the app).
* A new in-document build script feature. Simply double click on the command and the command will be inserted along with the appropriate ":" or ","
* The in-document feature will not allow you to insert a command in the wrong position.
* You can turn the in-document feature on and off.
* Move Scripts to an Archive Library
* Restore Scripts to the FPSC Script Library from the Archive Library.
* You are able to switch from the FPSC Script Library to the Archive Script Library so that you will automatically go to that folder when wanting to open a script.
* Assign Categories to scripts so that they are easier to manage.
* Backup all available scripts whether they are in the FPSC Library or in the Archive Library.
* After initial backup and when selecting the backup option, only the changed scripts will be backed-up.
* New scripts can only be backed up if you "Refresh the Archive Library Database."
* Restore all Backed-up scripts.
* Move unwanted scripts to a trash bin with the capability of restoring if you made a mistake. The trash bin can eventually be emptied.
* When a document is changed, there will be an asterisk (*) at the beginning of the document path/name in the title.
* Insert a sound command after browsing and choosing an audio file.
* Added line numbers. New and opened documents show line numbers. Toggle line numbers Off/On for each open document.
* Since maximum script file can only be 150 lines. Line number color changes to red beginning with line number 151.
* Added "Recent Files" (Maximum 7)
* An auto syntax checking method. This is loosely based on MS VB's editor. When you leave the current line, the program automatically checks the line for errors.
* You can toggle between using auto syntax check or not. If you choose not to use auto syntax check then you can manually check the syntax anytime you want.
* When you double-click on a word it will highlight that word for selection.

Version 3.3.95
* Changed the max line from 150 to 350.
* Added the ability to save and delete Search/Replace words.
* Added a Dark AI category.
* Added FPSC v1.17 commands to the command lists.
* Added a direct link to four help files that came with v1.17. These links are found in the Help Menu.

Version 3.3.94
* Fixed issues that crept into 3.3.93 changes. Sorry about that. I do believe however, this is very, very stable. Famous last words right?

Version 3.3.93
* When accessing the find dialog box, the cursor will automatically be in the "find" field. (This was a personal issue for me and I'm sure others.)
* Another bothersome issue with me was a file not found error that would crop up from time to time when adding, editing, or deleting a command. This is fixed.

Version 3.3.92
* The find box will always stay on top now.

Version 3.3.91
* Fixed issues that crept into 3.3.9 changes.

Version 3.3.9
* Made the line that contains an error a little darker grey so it is easier to see (for me )
* When the cursor leaves a greyed-out line that contains an error it will then be highlighted.
* Added a ".dds" and a ".tga" extension for the add hud feature.
* When clicking the mouse button on the same line that has an error it will no longer pop-up an error message.

Version 3.3.88
* Fixed an issue when a recent file document is opened.

Version 3.3.87
* When all changes have been undone then the asterisk will be deleted as it is now an unchanged document. When you delete document then it also will not ask if you want to save.
* Fixed an issue when a command line document is opened.

Version 3.3.86
* Fixed issue with window caption showing truncated file name using the Save As option.
* Fixed issue when clicking on an "FPI," "FPE," or "FPS" file and caption starts with an asterisk (*).

Version 3.3.85
* Fixed issue with window caption showing truncated file name.

Version 3.3.84
* Fixed bug with file saves. They save correctly now.

DOWNLOADS

Download for Version 3.3.95 Installer. If you are new to FPI EditPad you will need to download the installer. To download the installer then click here. This will take you to the FPS Creator Downloads page. Scroll to the bottom of the page to find the FPI EditPad download link.

If you do not install FPI EditPad you cannot simply download the newer versions and expect them to work. You need to first install the application and then download the newer exe file and copy it to the root folder of the application. This setup version includes the most current command lists.

Newest EXE version is now 3.3.95.

If you downloaded the current installer and installed FPI EditPad from scratch, then you will not need to download the stock version zip file.

However, if you want to update from an older version then you will need to download the following files.

Download FPSC Stock Version 3.3.95.

This version contains:

* the FPI EditPad executable file - drop this file into the FPI EditPad root folder.
* the FPSC stock command lists and def files which includes all commands found in v1.17 - drop these files into the FPI EditPad root folder.
* a new MDB file - drop this file into the Database folder contained within FPI EditPad root folder.
* four help files that are needed if you are to use the links found in FPI EditPad's help menu - drop these PDF files into the Docs folder of the FPS Creator root folder.

Important Note:

Be sure and make a copy of your original list command and def files before you overwrite them. If you have already made your own changes to these files then you may not want to overwrite them.

If you added mod (PB, Fenix, etc) commands then you may not want to overwrite your list and def files.

I don't like installers that auto-installs in some folder. I might give it a try again if that is fixed.

Misunderstood, previous message. Can't delete post but deleted my unfortunate terse message. New message follows.

OK, I will allow for the user to put it into whatever folder they wish. I can't revise right now but will tonight CST.

I am sorry if my tone seemed harsh in my first post. It was not intended.

I do appreciate the effort you are doing by making this program. My point was only that I don't like it when programs can't be installed where I like them to be. With the hundreds of programs you install on a pc some form of system is important in my opinion. All my other TGC relevant products are sorted nicely in a special folder to make things easy to navigate. It saves a lot of clicks when editing stuff here and there.

The installer now allows you to change your install folder.

@Neo Dar

Right now I have the categories hard coded in the program so you can't change the category names. Trying to come up with categories was actually quite difficult. I am not a technical writer; just a programmer. In a future version I could possibly allow the user to create their own categories. Never actually thought of that. I'm not sure how I will have to change the code, though or how I will go about doing that.

FL I meant that when I changed categories from "All" to "Animation" the words themselves moved over to the right and I had to manually move them back to their normal positions. But when I restarted the program it worked with no problems

I assume it is working fine now? I hope so because I can't seem to duplicate the problem. If its still not working what is your monitor's screen resolution?

@Gamer X

Thanks. Hope it is useful. BTW, I like your ideas on the "allies" script.

There is one thing I had forgotten to place in the help files as well as even explaining it here.

A special feature that this program has is being able to build a statement line. Of course you must start out with a condition. All you simply need to do is double click on the command. If you have more that one condition then double click on as many condition commands needed. If there is an X value required then you will be asked to supply it. Once all of the conditions have been supplied then you can go to the actions and supply the action commands.

When double clicking on a command, that command will be added to the script line found above the text editor window. Once you are done and are ready to add the line to your script, make sure the text cursor is at the insertion point and then click the Add button. The statement will be created without syntax error. Of course you are responsible for logical errors.

FL I couldn't duplicate the problem at all so I guess it was a "getting used to my computer" glitch otherwise the statement line adder and the categories are nice additions.Good job.

I will download the setup files and try it out.

Wouldn't you know, the only time I did not test the setup file after I uploaded it it is broken. Aaaagghhhh! All the other times it has worked fine.

Will work on fixing it. I might just have to upload it again.

Uploaded again, working again. Thanks for trying and hope you find it useful.

Be sure and clean up your download history cache or it will just use the one you downloaded before which is the "bad" one.

Downloaded, installed no problem and works great.

I've recently been editing scripts with the notepad for the past few days, your program has made scripting a lot less hassle to get into.

Thank you for a very useful program.

Neither do I.

Actually I used FPI Editor until I decided I wanted more out of it. It was incomplete and not a finished program.

FL - It's been a while and I had a few personal things to take care of but, I finally started playing around with FPI Editpad.

Wrote a script this morning I have been wanting to get done and the best part is that it lists the commands so, I didn't have to keep referring to the manual. Worth using just for that. The interface is very professional and seems complete. Loved having multiple files open also.

Couple of things to mention though.
1. When adding my fpsc directory it only showed my C drive. I had to enter D: in the config file and then I was able to traverse the D drive.

2. When entering the commands it would be nice to be able to double click them. Like manually enter.

:state=0, and then double click on the condition that I want and value and it puts it where my cursor is.

3. How do I clear the command line?

Hi tschwarz,

Never even thought about other drives. I should have. Will take care of that sometime in the near future. At least you were checking out the files and found the correct one to place the drive path. That is what I was going to recommend.

I wonder if you have the most current exe file and help files. When you point to a command (either conditions or action) and it does not show a bubble image containing a short description then you definitely do not have the latest exe file. See image below:

When you are pointing to a command you can do one of two things. Double click to place the command on the script (command) line or single click to select the command. The status bar will contain some simple help in the lower left hand corner.

Once you select a command you have two choices. You can press the <F1> key for additional help (this is very limited right now as it is a WIP) or you can press the <F5> key to copy the command at the cursor position within the document.

There are two ways that the script (command) line is cleared. The first is after you click on the Add button to add the line to the document. This will automatically clear it. However, if you want to clear it manually because you want to change it, then select "Options" on the top menu. "Clear Script Line" is the last option in the drop down menu. You will need the current exe file.

I hope that answers your questions.

And thank you for the comments. I guess being a programmer for almost 40 years and being able to test all of the beta versions from DOS BASIC through VB v6.x for MS as well as being certified, helps. This actually didn't take me very long and also it was, at first, only for myself. Now that it is public, I guess I have to think about making it even more usable. One thing I don't have is a help file concerning how to use the thing.

Ahhh, yes F5, knew I was able to do that when I first tried it out a while back. Forgot and kept hitting F1.

A double click to select a single command would be cool, even if I had to hold my left foot up at the same time.

We'll share storys some time, though mine don't go back quite as far.

You can manually add any subsequent commands that Lee provides yourself.

There are two files for each of the action and condition commands:

actions.lst
hlpActions.def, and

conditions.lst
hlpConditions.def.

The ".lst" files are divided into categories.

Action Categories

[PLAYER], [ENTITY MOVEMENT], [ENTITYPLAYER INTERACTION], [ENTITY/TARGET INTERACTION], [ENTITY], [SOUND], [VARIABLES], [ANIMATION], [MULTIPLAYER], [HUDS], [LIGHTSAMBIENCE], [GAME], [MISC]

Condition Categories

[PLAYER], [ENTITY], [COLLISION], [HUDS], [ANIMATION], [VARIABLES], [MISC]

When adding an action or condition into the list be sure and place it into the correct category. The definition for that command can be in any order. Just place the newest one at the top.

How to place an action or condition command into the list and definition files.

The command that goes into the ".lst" file is lowercase. If there is a required variable assigned to it you should follow the command with an equal sign.

Example

plrdisable
incvar=

The command that goes into the ".def" file is uppercase. If there is a required variable assigned to it you should follow the command with an equal sign and an X. Also the definition shall also be placed in this file after the X.

Example

PLRDISABLE - Freezes player and disables camera and gun.
INCVAR=X - Increases the value of the current variable by X

I Like the dbl click much better, which is the way I would use it more than building the complete line. Since I don't use the scripting language everyday, it's nice having the commands a mouse click away. Thanks

Glad I was able to make it easier for you tschwarz. Your still my hero with SignsIV. Everybody, check into this great utility by clicking here.

Quote: "commands a mouse click away"

Or two fast mouse clicks away. I too like it that way. One can still place the command in the Script Line by selecting the command and pressing the <F5> key to copy it. So those who want to build a complete line can still do so easily.

It's much more than a backup system. It will be a way to organize your media by archiving it into a database driven archival library, by categorizing your media you can then transfer them back to your FPSC library when you need them or want them. It will do this without having to worry about what files goes where. It will transfer and deal with all of the files associated with an object. It also will allow you to have a cleaner looking FPSC library by not having a lot of unwanted objects you are not using at the time.

If you want do a search on FPSC MediaKeeper, you will find a thread somewhere in the FPSC models forum. I haven't kept it current because I'm still have a way to go with it. There were some complications I've had to iron out. tschwarz has been helping me with it. You know, the creator of Signs.

It will have backup capability but it will also allow you to back up a single object a folder of objects or a category of objects. Again, you don't have to worry about all the files associated with an object. All you have to do is select the objects and all the files associated with it will be backed up. So, if you want to backup your purchased models you just have to select the models you want to back up (or all) and click. All of your purchased (or selected) are backed up, without having to backup the whole FPSC library or figuring out where all the files are. Granted a lot of us know where to find this files but not everybody knows where everything is or how the file structure works.

This program looks like a very nice piece of software, but I'll pass. There's something charming about the retro notepad way of scripting. I guess I like the feel of typing a script in a way which makes it feel more satisfactory when finished. And the way you notice you forgot to type that colon and smashing your keyboard through the nearest window/person/chat show.

A starting Games Designer. Need levels, characters and anything drawn and designed? Let me know...

There are now only two places to download. The very first post and a subsequent post that has the new version 2.1.0 exe file.

If health and time permits I will be getting to the next version. I've decided not to sell the newer version and so it too will be free. There are two things I want to do with the next version for sure. There were several things I wanted to do but I will take it a little at a time.

1. Allow the user to add to the commands lists programmatically.
2. Automatic color coding of commands. (This is not as easy as it sounds and I don't think I have any code snippets from my library over the years to use. I've already looked.)

For those of you who already have installed FPI EditPad you can download v2.1.1 exe file by clicking the download button in the next post.

It includes the ability to add, delete or edit commands. You will find the new feature under "File"

All other posts having downloads, except for the very first post, have been virtually deleted.

Send me an email if you have any trouble with it.

I noticed a couple of textual issues. Just a matter of captions and such. So I corrected them. Call it version 2.1.1. Available clicking on the download button. The above post no longer has a download button. Sorry.

If you have any trouble or questions, feel free to email me. I will not respond to posts in this thread.

Edit:

Corrected Support email address.

See my next download post.

I think that you did a great job on this program, and it's extremely useful, the installer is easy to use, it has a small file size of 750KB, and can help beginner scripters out with the actions panel on the left-side. Also all the formats it can make help even more. I think this will help me, and many other people new, or old FPSC users, especially with it's simplicity, and speed compared to doing everything the old fashion way. Good job, and keep up the good work.

Thanks Diablos Bud. Really appreciate the feedback. Especially since this has taken a lot of time. Although, I'm not complaining. I need to keep my brain working.

Here is another tweaked version. Call it 2.1.2.

I made it a little more easier to open up an FPE, FPS files by allowing a choice from the FileOpen menu. It will then take you to the correct subfolder and will have the correct file filter as default. I did this because I was tired of having to switch directories and then having to choose the correct file filter. You see a lot of this is done because I use it and I want it to be as user friendly as possible.

Edit:

Scroll down to download version 2.2.0. Just find the "Download" button on my post.
