You know that's a great question. I think the answer really depends on you. What type of art do you think you'll be using the editor for?

I'm partial to Painter 7, because I'm fasinated by the mimicing of traditional mediums.

Also ask yourself whether or not you're going to use things like scanned images or a wacom tablet etc... Each program has its strong points for handling these different types of media. i.e. photoshop is fantastic at photo manipulation.

Good luck.. And try to download some trial versions of these softwares. You'll be the best judge.

Ben

The industry standard is Adobe Photoshop. I was ignorant of this until recently, I relied on Jasc's Paintshop Pro. Painter's also a good contender, so try these and I agree with BHoltzMan when he says it's down to you.

I don't need to work with photos.
Is more to work with textures, and some others 2D stuffs, like make game menus, and energy bars...
And a free software will be good

I've been making, and selling 3D textures, using PaintShop Pro 7.

While the others are probably a lot better, PSP7 goes for around $80-$100.

The others are in the $500+ range.

If ya don't mind using it, MS Paint aint to bad, but you'll need a converter to shrink the file sizes-BMP's are HUGE!
