Quote: "or he could just be creatively useing his skyboxes very well to give the impression of a larger area."

Pretty much,a much larger area many miles across to scale is created, the textures are then baked so shadows are there when the centre terrains are removed.
The sky box views are then rendered and the centre terrains which are used in the map are exported, also with baked textures so the whole scene fits together in FPSC.
For the Marek's lair level I changed my mind about a daytime setting and went for a more gloomy night scene with dark fog.
I composited the mountains onto the default night skybox in photoshop and tweaked the levels and opacity so it all fits right.
Below is a view across from the bridge into the keep,I've removed the fog soyou can see the map better.

The cliff face is a more recent addition so will need to be baked in modeler to suit the rest of the scene.

Yeah it deffinatly looks alot bigger than the standard grid, well done on that

TATBS 1.8 is now fully functional. Brilodis is having its districts extracted to Battle City. Krina and Karin are twice the size. And you’ll see 5 times as many breeds of monsters... It’s Kalspher V3.

Well his first post is May 7th and I could only imagine how long the idea has been developing before that. It all has to do with what you put into it. And Rolfy seems to be pouring his heart into this one

I spent a long time learning to use FPSC and then how to get my work into it,I have been modeling for many years for animation so game optimisation was new and took me a while to get used to.
I am currently working on my demo for this, which requires music, sounds, huds, menu's,models, cutscenes not to mention gameplay and of course level design,so it it is a lot of work for one guy.
I am getting there however and expect to release something soon,a full game may take around a year or two

I came across the same problem. One of my current 2d projects has been comming along nicely. But i sat down and worked out the maths, and it seems it would take another 4 years to complete at the rate im moving at.

I wish you the best of luck on finishing the project Rolfy

I was reading about the making of Unreal last night. Did you know that it took Epic Games nearly 4 years to complete? We certainly have an advantage with the FPSC engine, but still, I would think it would take one person AT LEAST one year to put out a game, probably two or more if it were any count.

Best.

It was in my PC Mag, and I was reading it on the throne, so no. I can't give you a link but PC Magazine online should have the stories from the latest mag.

Best.

EDIT:

From the Mag.....

Innovators: Tim Sweeney
Kids spending too much time playing video games? That's what Tim Sweeney's parents thought, too. But playing games in the basement led to his developing them there, which eventually led to the founding of Epic MegaGames (now known as Epic Games) and the ground-breaking first-person shooter Unreal, which took the PC gaming industry to the next level in 1998.

"Unreal was the first 3D game with panoramic outdoor scenes, and it set a new standard in terms of vivid artwork and lighting," says Sweeney. "It really changed gamers' expectations of 3D gaming from then on."

Working with James Schmalz, Cliff Bleszinski, and others, Sweeney built the editing tools that eventually turned into the full Unreal Engine. Unreal was in development for nearly four years and was a huge risk for the tiny company. But it was a hit, and more important for the industry, Unreal introduced a revolutionary gaming engine (now in its third iteration) that has served as the platform for dozens of other titles to this day.

I'm sorry, my answers are limited. You must ask the right question.

Just my observation. No harm was meant in the comment.
Everyone has there on thoughts on things. I am looking forward to alot of things being worked on here, not just this one.
I hope it will not be taken the wrong way by some. There are alot of talented people who use FPSC and Inspire you are one of them, along with Butters and Lon and so many others that i wont mention here. I am a casual user of FPSC for a hobby and marvel at what you guys can do with it. So if any one takes offense i apologize ahead of time, was not my intention.

Flippin' over a similar comment is logical, because such a statement could be taken as offense by all the others who have showed great results.
However, in this case we can`t do anything but agree. I guess some of us here thought that we`ve brought FPSC already to its limits, but rolfy shows what is really possible with a completely different approach of designing the world. We should found a secret cult worshipping his skills instead of being jealous

EDIT: roly

EDIT: roffly

ffs let me copy and paste

rolfy :0 How long has it taken you so far? Are you going to make a sequal in x10? Are you using *ANY* stock media? What are the weapons going to be like? How many custom entities/segments have you made? Is there going to be music, if so, what style? Are you planning on releasing a demo soon, or more screenshots?

*interview style ^*

Thanks,

Xplosys, the girls must be finding that kinda rough.

Squelchy Tom,I am in process of creating a demo, most of the work is custom, tho' for little things like switches I will probably use the stock media, for some corridors etc I will most likely just retexture. It is unlikely that you will recognise much stock media in the game.
Weapons, I intend to create spells and may create some staffs too.
Music will also be my own,I have a collection of synths, keyboards, guitars, drums and f/x.
I will also be replacing all sound effects like footsteps, player sounds etc.

best rolfy.

Thank you for that! Even E.L.E. seems to be using the stock sounds for footsteps, etc (unless its just used as a placeholder).

Yeah The default footsteps are the things that most remind me of an FPSC game. Take that out, and no will think this is FPSC at all ingame.
