I never knew how to do it but now i know.

And thanks to that i have created several trees, bushes and grass.

This isnt for a game but just showing some models that you can create forests with it.

I like the watercolor look. I'm not sure how it would look next to other FPSC content, but it is an interesting look anyway. Nice!

Best.

I'm sorry, my answers are limited. You must ask the right question.

the trees dont look great however i like the enthusiasm to make outdoor scenes, i tried this myself and i think it worked well, however if you want the perfect example of outdoor scenes, look at butterfingers jungle level that he made, its fantastic

And why does it looks like a watercolor painting?
Oh and by the way you said watercolor so i assumed that you mean
that it looked like the color of water.

AlanC
I am glad that you liked it.

Cherd
You are right they arent perfect.
And you made a outdoor scene yourself also
but you only had hills no grass and only 1 type of tree.
This has 11 type of trees 2 sorts of grass 2 types of bushes.

But of course Butterfingers jungle level looked awesome.

But you also can see that this isnt a jungle.

But maybe you can explain why it doesnt look perfect and help me.

Host it on imageshack.us

E.D.

P.S. It still looks nice, even if it does look a bit "watercolourish"

Cheese Cake,

I can't tell where you're from, because I don't know where the bakery is, but I thought that the painting style called "watercolor" was know everywhere. It's a process of painting with water based paint instead of oil based paint. It is normally characterized by it's lack of depth and undefined outlines or edges.

Just Google watercolor.

I'm not putting you down here, the pictures just look like watercolor paintings and I like them.

Best.

I made a photo and edited it in Photoshop it was from a bush very close.
Than gave it an alpha layer but anyway here is another screenie.

Its the new texture with on of the old ones.

Both are different models.

Which one do you like more?
I mean the textures.

Thank you for your comments oleg.

-EDIT-
I didnt followed a tutorial for trees.
I asked rolfy if he had tips and it helped.
But my real tutorial was to look at games which had trees in it.
Than first make the bark try to give it some twists in it so it doesnt looks to much like a cylinder and than place your leaves in it.

You could use a plain 2 sided box and apply your texture on it.
Than spread it on the bark and try to give your tree as much leaves as possible.
Test it ingame if it looks good....than try to make it better.
I have 3 versions of 1 tree and with each version its getting better.

Anyway hope i helped!

The old one looks more like the type of bark you would find in a forest. The new one looks like bark you would find in a tree in Africa or something.

And what about the leafs?
In my opinion they are better than the old ones.
But your opinion counts.

It depends what you're going for. I would use the same bark and switch between the two different types of leaves. The old tree leaves look more peaceful, maybe for a standalone tree in a garden or something. The new one looks good for a thick forest, creating a canopy.

I also have a suggesting. I would create the tree and the leaves as two separate entities, make the tree have collision and the leaves not, and place the leaves over the tree. This helps with collision problems and the like.

That was a great idea thanks!
Because i had collision problems if the leafs where in the way.
So i allways tried to put the leafs 1 segment higher than the player.
Thanks.
