Controls


If your using a keyboard Then the main keys are Arrowkeys,Enter,+,-
But I'd recommand it with a WMC Remote, (If you have one)

I need feedback on any problems with this so i can fix them, I'll be posting an AutoUpdate later today with a few changes to try and speed it up a little anyway.

At some point im going to try doing a little DLL so i can access the WMC Remote better using these

Might take a while though as the only DLL I've done before was a MsgBox DLL
Apparably the Examples in these links are for Universal Remotes Aswell which would be cool as if you use a universal remote on your TV, then you could use that on this aswell, (Aslong as you have an IR Receiver)

How It Works
The AutoUpdater, (Which includes the Splash Screen) is an Independant Programme I made, This is so when it checks for Updates, I can replace the main Programme File if changes have been made to it.

"channels.ini" lists all available channels which can be viewed by pressing F2, This is updated with any new channels by the AutoUpdater when programme started

"My Channels.ini" stores your channel list starting from channel 0, These channels are sellected from "Channels.ini" and stored in a dim called Channel().???, Press F2 to change your MyChannelList

"Version.ini" stores the current version number so that the AutoUpdater only looks for new updates.

"Setting.ini" is to store general setting, currently only ActiveSkin + DisplayTimeOutSpeed

You can change or add your own skins, but if you do make a deasent Skin then Please post it here and I will add an AutoUpdate to share it
To add your own skin, go to the Folder called Skins, Make a new folder named by the Next available number, (Currently 6) and add your skin into this folder, but make sure the DataWindow stays the same height for now.

There is Also a Dim called Prog().??? which is to store Programme Data for the Channel currently sellected by the DataWindow, But this is currently empty.
I may start adding Programme Data in about a week, as then I can test the "Set/Cancel Reminder" Function i've got.

Edit: I dont think this is too bad for 2/3 weeks work, (Between my day job)

When you change the Skin, It now saves the New ActiveSkin as the Default Skin
and a few other smaller changes

New Download is attached on the top post.

I gave up on the AutoUpdate for now, I will rebuild this at a later date

I'm trying to add a SkyOne Subscription Channel, But it may take a while as I need to speak to someone regarding this, If I can successfuly do this then hopfully i will be able to add a few sky channels, (Subscription Only).

Ok... so it was loading for about 20 minutes, then I used the task manager to close it. Right when I did that, the rest of the program came up. And I gotta say, nice job! This could really be useful to me, too.

What about an option to view it in full screen (or is there one already)?

I could probably make some skins for you, too, if you'd like.

Press Escape to turn FullScreen on/Off
Or
Use the option in the right click menu on the AVI Window

And yes, but if you make a skin, you need to keep it the same size for now until the next version, you also need to make the background 1 solid color as I dont know how to make a Labels Background Transparant

Post them here and if there good I can include them in the next version

I might be able to make the back color transparabt if i use a Canvas on it
I'll try that now

So did that work? And also all of the colours on the splash screen appear transparent.

Anyway, though, it's not loading right for me, still. The last time it just kept on loading for about 20 minutes. Then I decided to terminate it with the task manager. Right after I did it started to run. On my other computer (which is 5 years older) it loaded really quickly.

no it did not work as it fails to show the labels text

If the app is failing to go past the spash for anyone else then can you please let me know.

Its trying to connect via FTP to a FreeWebs Site i have, but i just tried using an ftp programme called SmartFTP hich isalso advising me
No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. Connection closed.
Apparantly i can not log on more than twice at the same time with the same username andd password...
It also restricts what file extensions i can store on it so this may be what was causing my autoupdater to fail, i will chack this later

If you run the EXE called "MSon Media - Without Update.exe", then this will skip the splash screen and all updates, (Including Available Channel Updates)

Any chance we can have a mini TV guide window at the side so we can select the desired TV channel we want?

Im not sure if this is supposed to be like this but I can only change the channel when I have clicked on the 'guide' at the bottom, not in the main window.

Does this work best with WMP as I think RealPlayer might be my default client, as well as Firefox...sometimes I just get a black screen,


Oh also, no biggie but '+' button makes the channel go down...

Im adding a Skin Settings file which will be in this format

This is so 1 can fully customize a skin, with each label having its own font, colors, ect, and you can change the Alpha in a skin from here

If there is anythink you want added to this programme, then please let me know and if poss then i wil try to add them to the next update

If anyone still wants to make a skin then you can customize it more now, But the DataWindow, (The one on the bottom) still needs to be the same height as the default ones.

I gona see if theres anythink good on now, I may add some more channels later, Australia is next

I think BBC1 and BBC2 are Subscription Channels only, Although i guess this means you dont need a TV Lisance if you only have an IPTV System like this and not a TV/TVCard, (I Guess)

Im working on adding Subscription Channels,. But it may take a
while

Edit: I just sent an eMail to Ofcom to find out if i do or dont need a license for this

What excuse do you think they will come up with?
and Isn't the UK the only place in the world where you need a license to have a TV? Or in my case a PC!!!

Wow. This is really amazing.

(On a side note, I want to bash my web browser with a heavy object. I had a long, detailed post all ready; I click 'post', and it tells me I'm not logged in! Now I've lost it! I tried to recreate most of it below.)

Anyways, here are some questions/comments:

1. The loading window vanished for me after a little while. Maybe it got hidden behind another window, but if it were placed on the taskbar then that might not happen.

2. The down arrow on my keyboard doesn't move to the previous channel, while the left arrow goes down two channels. Is it checking for the left arrow scancode twice instead of a call to the keydown([down arrow code])?

3. There's a funny blank window on my taskbar (with you r icon - see screenshot). What is it, and can I get rid of it's taskbar presence?

4. I live in the U.S., and the BBC Planet Earth therefore didn't work for me. Could your program display a nice "Innaccessible" (or something) in the window instead of the BBC webpage (see screenshot again)?

5. Ahh! I clicked next skin and it pretty much crashed. It rebelled and stole control away from me, and then decided not to respond when I tried to close it.

Sorry if I sounded harsh; this is really amazing! I'm just trying to give a few suggestions. Really good work!

1. The splash screen should disappears when a file exists in the temp directory called "Loading Completed", It then deletes this file, then closes the splash screen, this should happen when all other windows have been created.
I will look into this though

2. This is because up/down on the keyboard and up/down on a WMC remote both return the same Event Value.
I know how to fix this, will do so for the next update.

3. The tab is from a seperate window, in the Attached Picture there are 3/4 open windows, The AVI Window, The Data Window, (Bottom Middle), The Color Button Window on the top Left, and the channel list window if you have that turned on, I will fix this for the next version.

4. Unsure, I will look into this

5. Changing the skin can take some time as there is much information to load and it must dump the old skin first, But i will check this.

There are still some bugs to fix in this App, but im getting there slowley.
The next update proberley won't be available for a few days though as im getting it ready for Subscription Channels aswell

I forgot to say that number 1 was probably my fault. The window stayed there when I tried it again.

And if you have the url from the BBC Planet Earth stream I could give you the html I'm seeing in the U.S. (so the program could compare it to the html you see).

I like the auto hide of the control bar Didn't notice that before.

As I said... this is really amazing. I'll keep trying it out some more .

If i can figure out how to pass a Value or String to HTML or Java then i can speed up the loading quite a bit, i would also be able to add AVI Volume Control, Play/Pause of Live Streams, Ect, But i need to pass a Value to HTML or Java....

Any idea how?

If it where from 1 DarkBasic programme to another, Then it would not be a Problem, But from DarkBasic to HTML?

Now I'll try to specifically answer your question

Passing data to a custom html page using Javascript:
A lot of php pages (such as those for this forum) have a '?m=...' at the end of their url. This method will make whatever

follows this '=' sign a variable in javascript:

1. First you must make the html page extension '.jhtml' rather than '.html' or '.htm'. This will prevent Internet Explorer

(which is the engine BlueGUI's webgadget uses) from giving a warning window about scripts.

2. to pass data to the file, set the browser to 'mypage.jhtml?p=DATA'

3. Use javascript to catch 'DATA':


For an example (the above html/js code), go to test.jhtml?p=HI

and try changing p.

I hope that helps. I have absolutely no idea what to do for java.

If you could be more specific about what you want to accomplish, I'll try to help more.

I need to pass a Value or String to HTML Without Reloading the page...

I can change settings to the Embedded Media Player without needing to reload the HTML, But these need to be linked to DBPro.

For Example:
If you move the mouse over the HTML Window, Or if you double click on it, Or if you choose to show/hide the statusbar, The way im doing it at the moment means you need to rebuild the HTML and then reload.

What i want to do is pass a Value to HTML Without Reloading the page. Once i can send a value to the HTMLPage and can do the rest from there.

If i can do this then i can add Stop, Pause/Play and maybe the ability to resize without Reloading.
And didn't someone request AVI Volume control

Are you saying that you build a HTML page with the correct embedded media player control, without its taskbar, and then show it with the bluegui commands?

If you then want some custom buttons to pause, stop, play, etc, to act on the currently playing stream, then you need to simply find the javascript needed to do it and build a little bar inside the html that shows your buttons. They will then run javascript on the same page that is currently running.

This does however mean that the controls need to be in same window as stream, probably beneath it. They cannot be in a seperate window.

MSon - if you are trying to manage data without reloading a page, have you looked into AJAX? It is widely used for just this purpose. I am not sure if your particular application would work with it, but I have used it for validating credit cards without reloading pages, it worked like a charm.

AJAX is great, but won't help him as he has already loaded his HTML into the web gadget.

He is wanting a nice play, pause, stop, button etc done as DBPro objects and then trying to control a media player running stream within a bluegui web gadget. That is impossible.

Only way is to build the customised buttons as HTML and present them at same time as media player object, then you can use javascript. Try examples 2,3 and 4 from here;

If this is darkbasic, why isn't it listed under Applications in Task Manager? It takes friggin forever to load, the menus are hardly visible because of the transparency. Only the sidebar channel selector will fade all the way in. Aside from all that, this is kinda cool. Any chance of getting the station that shows top gear?

I could add BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel4, SkyOne and PPVSports.
There all UK Channels, but you would need to subscribe to them all as where i get them from, they will only sell it as part of a package deal, (For all the channels), TopGear is on the BBC, when you subscribe on your Computer it will ONLY allow you to watch the channels on that one computer.

i'm trying to find somewhere else where i could add subscription on a Channel by Channel basis, as id watch SkyOne, maybe BBC, but not the others.

Im trying to use an XML DataBase to send values from DarkBasic to Internet Explorer, but this may take a whilke as i know nothing about XML
Im using an XML Plugin for darkbasic that was in the DLL's Section

It will still be a couple of days till the next update as im determined to have "Floating AVIControls"

Edit: I dont suppose anyone has managed to get anywhere on making a skin?

Im sorry about this post, but im just P**t off
I just got a responce from the BBC regarding TVLicencing that I disagree with...

This meens if you have any Technology capable of attaching to the Internet then you need a TV License.

That means its not a TV Licance, But a Technology Licance, IE: a Licance to have Modern Technology, NOT A TV...

I asked them regarding Subscription as the BBC is ONLY a subscription channel online, Like SkyOne IE: Pay for it, Only if you want it.

I'll appologise now for this, But I do seriously disagree with this, I mean the UK is the only place in the world where you need a Licance to have Modern Technology.

I am pretty sure the licence is for any equipment capable of receiving live TV in the UK. What channel you are watching is irrelevant, and you only need one licence per address no matter how many items of receiving equipment you have. Like they say, if you aren't watching live TV on your PC (only prerecorded videos) then a licence is not needed.
Most of the reply from the BBC makes sense and is what I already thought, except for this paragraph:

I don't think this is true as you are allowed to use portable televisions (which plug in) when going to holiday homes etc. which is covered by your existing home TV license - or so I thought. I was under the impression your fixed address licence covers portable receiving equipment whether plugged in or not in a temporary location.

How i read this is your Main TV Licance covers your TV and say, a Laptop, BUT you MUST have a Licance for every Desktop/Tower PC you have as there under a Different type of licance...

I think they added this without telling people, Kind of behind there backs,
I mean they made a License for PC's...
a "PC License"

And its not for all channels, The TVLicance pays for your right to have BBC Channels with NO ADVERTS, The TVLicence was an Alternate form of funding for the BBC instead of Adverts or Subscription, But this has nothing to do with any other TV Channels

BBC is now a ONLY a Subscription channels online, but they forgot to mention about that in there responce

so you should buy a licence for your TV, a Seperate license for your PC and then Subscribe for BBC Channels
so you pay the BBC 3 times??????????

Can i do the same as the BBC?
start a subscription channel, and then charge people for not receiving it?

Edit: Sorry I havn't made any updates or added channels for a while, But all I seem to be doing at the moment is Working and sleeping

Don't you just wish you had more time to programme? I do, im always stuck at work at the moment.

I want to rebuild this to use somethink like an Access Database so I can list Online Videos

Why?
I found Stargate season 1,2,3,5,6,10, Every Southpark and Futurama ever made and many other tv shows and movies, most use DivX so you would need DivX to watch them

All i need is a way to store there information

I reccon i should use an access database as this will be quicker for searching and sorting through them all

Sorry for the delay, but im off work tomorrow so ill try this

Any chance of getting it to work for media streamers through the network? I tried TVersity as I heard it worked for some of them (eg. Z500) as long as they supported uPnP. Couldn't get it working with my Tvix media streamers though. Would be tops if I could get sites streaming to the machines I have around the house.
