----------------
Introduction
----------------

Welcome to the jDEP, this is a fully working skybox for Doom 1
that replaces the original Doom skydomes and provides additional effects.

This preview uses Dani's skybox.md2 file and thus should be compatible with
JDRP 1.0 and above. Doom 2 fog by Technomancer.

The pack contains various skyboxes that replace the Skydomes (SKY1, SKY2 and
SKY3) from the original Doom games. Each skybox contains 6 textures at a
resolution of 512x512 so if you don't have a fair amount of video RAM your
system might not like them much.

I've tested the pack on my nVidia TI 4800 and my ATI 9000 and had no problems so
hopefully you won't as well. I've had reports of the skybox working on GeForce 2
card so try it out.

----------
CONTENTS
----------

This pack contains 6 skyboxes that will appear on Doom 1, Doom 2, Ultimate Doom
and Final Doom (see above note).
This pack also contains definitions for fog on those levels (Doom 2 & Evilution
fog by Technomancer).

---------------------
Manual Installation
---------------------

Simply place the PK3 in your data\jdoom\auto folder</p>
If it doesn't work first time try adding the DED file to your
defs\jdoom\auto folder (see details below).

------------------
WHAT IS A SKYBOX
------------------

Skyboxes are used in most modern games and give a complete wraparound sky and
ground texture to the game environment, old games such as original Doom used
a 'drum' texture that had no top or bottom.

--------------
KNOWN ISSUES
--------------

DED DEFINITIONS BEING OVERWRITTEN
---------------------------------
PROBLEM
The pack loads (and is listed in doomsday.out) but the skybox does not appear (note
it will only be visible on parts of the level where the noraml sky is visible).

REASON
You are probably suffering from the DED loading order of JDoom, as PK3 are loaded
earlier than individual DEDs ypu will find if you have other map definitions in
your Defs folder they will take precedence over the PK3 embeded DED file.

SOLUTION
Either extract the DED from the pack (make sure the file has the extension .zip
first i.e. SkyboxPreview.pk3.zip then use Winzip, winRAR etc...) and copy it to
your Defs/jdoom/auto folder. You can also download an IDENTICAL version of the DED
from ftp://jfiles@server1.thefourwinds.net/jdoom/slide/doom1EP.ded.

jDEP Does not work/will not load
---------------------------------

PROBLEM
When the pack is used jDoom will not start/fails.

REASON
Usually this is caused by using an older version of Doomsday/jDoom - the jDEP
requires 1.7.14/1.7.15 or higher.

SOLUTION
Check your version and upgrade as necessary.

SKYBOX BANDING
--------------
PROBLEM
Skybox has large amounts of banding or the colours look odd

REASON
If you use Palletted textures the skies may appear with huge amounts of banding. The
previous issue with Texture Compression has been resolved with this release.

SOLUTION
Simply turn off palletted textures; ethier by removing the options
from your command line/batch file or unchecking them in Kickstart.

Note - Some drivers will force compression at driver level (which Doomsday can't overide)
in this case you will need to check your driver settings (control panel>Display settings>
Settings Tab> Advanced Button> then usually Graphics card name or Direct 3d/Opengl settings
- This varies card to card).

Those are the textures from the .wad file aren't they, you're not allowed to post them, I don't think anyway.

EDIT - And they all look like 64x64 images like in the .wad file. I doubt anyone here will use them because of their quality, unless of course you are just copying the images not enlarging them.

A few of those do look like they're out of the Doom main wad file, though recolored...

Ya want the license? Here:

Code box to save space. This is a copyrighted product and you can't redistribute its contents...

EDIT: I think the key term is '[you may not] derive source code', even if it is media, it goes under that classification (I believe).

You could of just given a link to the doomsday site, and that doesn't look much like a license to me, its just the instructions to implant the new textures into the doomsday source port, this is an FPSC forum.

Changes, the question is did YOU make them? Regardless of whether or not its from the original doom (and many of the Doom Hi-res projects are hi-res versions of the original textures, using the originals as the base) you must permission to distribute. Furthermore, as I found out with new versions of the Jdoom model packs, is it distributable for any reasons other than Jdoom? Many Jdoom packs don't allow redistribution for reasons other than for use in Jdoom. If you can find us an actual license file for those textures that allows you to do this, or get permission, so be it. If not, then you're in violation of forum rules.

You e-mailed me and I am giving you the benefit of the doubt on these but if you fail to post a license saying you have permission to redistribute these textures then this thread is dead.
If you have the license to redistribute then cool.If not,say you don't,we'll put an end to this, etc.
This is why I tell people you should only post stuff you have made yourself unless you have express permission from the creators of the media to redistribute.
