Turn off UAC.
Use Windows Classic theme.
Run in Windows XP SP 2 compatability mode.
If you don't like Vista, don't use it. There are tons of people who do, and unfortunately they either don't like it because they didn't/don't have the latest updates or all the drivers, or because they where dumb enough to listen to what someone had to say against Microsoft even though that person didn't know anything about what they do.
