Well I've asked bond1 before if FPSC X10 is worth it and was met with a resounding "hell yes!". I've gobbled up any X10 pics or videos until I can barely look at them. But now I'm asking anyone who has played the X10 demo or has beta tested to please come forward and tell their opinion of FPSC X10. I would also be grateful if they would rate it against FPSC, something like: FPSC 6/10 FPSC X10 9/10. Anyone who is like me and has not played X10 yet can discuss whether they are going to buy it when, why or why not. Lets hope TGC takes their sweet time with this and put out one kick butt game creator

P.S. My brother and I are considering spending over 1200 Canadian bucks on this so I really want to know if everyone thinks its a worth spending that much for

I wouldn't recommend paying so much just to be able to use one program, you should probably upgrade when there are a lot more X10 programs.

Unless you have a really lame computer, it shouldn't cost you that much anyway. All you really need is 2 GB of RAM, an DX10 compatible card and Vista Basic. Like I said, if your motherboard can support these things, it shouldn't cost you more than $500. If that.

With all the VAT and crap here in Europe, you're lucky if you can get a hold of a decent X10-compatible computer for only 1200$. I'm not kidding, the prices here in Sweden make me wanna puke my guts up.

This will be worth it for serious developers, I'm heavily interested in taking this up as a career but I can't see any opportunities for game design in the UK in my area, so I have to self teach, FPSCX10 and DBPX10 are the perfect solutions for this, i hope it goes far

Well I'm buying a new computer totally not upgrading because this computer is an upgraded 98. We are also getting it for other things and games. IMO, looking at the videos and pictures is enough to make any FPSC-er wet their pants

slayer222 i read your post soo i gotta help you out do not buy a ready made computer like most people do get the parts its way cheaper and you can probobly use the same chassis you already have im also building a system for directx10 and fps creator 10 it includes

Amd athalon64 dual core 3.0 ghz
2x xfx 8600 Gts
8 Gb of ram(memory)
evga motherboard
and other parts that will set me back about 2.6k so dont feel alone
this is a profesional system but you can get by with a low 8600 card.
if you buy seperate parts ill tell you exactly how to put them in

I got my computer from there, with an 8600 GT, 2Ghz dual core, 2GB RAM for just over £600, about $1100 USD.

Now, actually that's quite a lot. It sounds less expensive in Sterling though, and if you want to get it you have to pick it up from the UK.

Actually, this post has turned out to be a load of rubbish, it's not as good a deal as I first thought.

the dell e521 you can get it with 2gb's of 320gb hard drive and Amd athalon64 dual core 5800 for $980 not bad for what you get.

and as far as fpsc x10 omg it looks awsome bc i am a modeler but i want to put my models in my own game so it would be ideal for that so
would fpsc but the new x10 version will be up to date as far as
graphics and such bc the old one's graphics are getting kind of dated. not to say its bad or anything its just that its hard as it is to be a inde game maker but when the graphics and tool's are not up to date it makes it harder bc everyone wants to play a game with the latest graphics and such so yes its worth it.

Game creator 11 thx for your help I have (and still am) considering building a custom computor.Thx for the help TGPEG but 1100 USD is just over 1200 canadian anyhow so there is no real benifit anyhow. Laava man that sounds great but again there is the USD/CAD dollar difference and I would like to get a series 8 nvida (probably the 8600). Thanks everyone for your time,

The serious developers part made me crack up! I still don't believe it's worth it until Vista & DX10 get support by the majority of game players, unless you persist on creating games for a small group of elite gameplayers..... and I still doubt those will be interest in FPSC X10 games at all, seeing what the X10 games they love to play offer them.

Another issue is the delay of the release of X10. The longer it takes, the more likely other engines may catch up. On the other hand some of the other well known game engines that indies use, have already stated they're not going to upgrade their engines to DX10 until DX10 gains support by the majority of users and players. I do think that's a wise choice.

You hit the nail on the head.... spot on. FPSC looks very impressive until you start using it or start playing the games made with it, then the impressiveness wears off quickly, unfortunally.

That "guy" asking the questions was Rick Vanner, and it was a very early version, before beta testing even started, I believe.

Well that's just naive thinking, but it's human nature I guess. The notion (although it's a sexy notion) that you can singlehandedly make a game that competes with the likes of ID or Valve, etc...people that have many years of experience and lots more people on the payroll (money). I started playing the piano in 3rd grade, at 31 years old, I'm quite an excellent player, and it didn't happen overnight. But I didn't have to play at a "pro" level right off the bat to have fun. It's the same for me with FPSC, I don't have to make a commercial quality game to have fun with it.

I think that upgrading is worth it, but your better waiting for prices to drop and more programmes to arrive. Loads of new games will need x10 technology anyways, so your not upgrading for just 1 programme.
