Hi I've always used JPEG, PNG or BMP file formats for my texture/screens, so I've like to know what is the big advantage of using DDS files!

DDS files have built in mipmapping. They can have a slight speed boost for loading because darkbasic doesn't have to create the mipmaps on the fly. I tried them out, but they weren't worth the extra effort for me.

create a 128 x 128 texture for each file format.
compare the filesizes prior to loading them.

create a snippet that loads this onto a 3d "plain" with a timer of how long it takes to load the texture.

repeat this process with 256 512 768 size textures.

save this in your WIP folder or Research folder for reference with usage on any existing or new video card you come across.

write a text file on your findings and store it in the same folder for each different machine you test it on.
