DX10 and cards like the nvidia 8800 allow for massive gaming battles. See the fighting fun here:

Now imagine all those enemies as zombies cramped into a small basement or dank corridor, armed with nothing but a pea shooter and an inflateable hammer. Love that instancing.

It seams like the walking animation doesn't match for the speed of the players. They seam to slide along as they walk.

Cool.

In that vid, are all the enemies attacking at once, or is it a "kill one, another starts attacking" glitch?

Nah.

All the enemies seem to be attacking. X10 uses very similiar script-system as the previous DX9 version, but with some new features and control over new things.

The FPSCX10 has a totally new "engine", so you're not going to see those little glitches and bugs you saw in DX9 version.

Got kinda repetitive but still was a great example of the power of X10. A grenade or two would have made my day BTW are the explosive weapons working yet in X10? Because I haven't seen a single picture or movie showing an explosive weapon in use yet

Well that level is just a speed test, no real love and care taken, just pushing X10 to see if it can cope. X10 also cleans up the scene by slowly removing dead bodies.

noooooo! the bodies fade!?!?!? You can have them stay right? Yeah I know but some fancy level design always brings more interest Either way is fine with me but just if the level was just like the ragdoll vid then that would be awesome too.

Yes, you can flag them to stay in the scene. I mean come on, a 50 enemy fight is a bit silly anyway. You really want to build up the enemies as you progress and maybe have one heck of a fight with your allies and enemies later on.

Yeah, put 50 people in a room and when they die bake them into the scene, then have it so when one dies another comes up....after twenty minutes you will have a pile of bodies so large that they will reach to the top of a third story building. Speaking of that it would be cool if, after they died, you could pick them up like boxes and stack them...you could reach bonus areas! lol. I know that's what I would do!

yeah I asked rick if that would be possible but it won't be now for certain of course. I love that the enemies can be baked into a scene but unless collision is turned off it will probably cause problems.

Hmmmmmmmmmm....i must say im impressed, very impressed looks great as always, top notch yaddy yaddy yaddy

But what im really wondering is if you throw a gernade near a corpse or a live person, will they go rag doll flying thru the air, and is there a way to increase explosion size? and please tell me rick that you guys are making the resource files *bullet holes, blood on wall, etc etc* each one its on file? so we can make really really gory games.... plus that would make me feel and i bet alot of other people more in control of things

*edit*
also is there a way in x10 to make gernades force stronger? so if you throw it at someone you could make it shoot them across the map, or just not really fly around at all?

This may be a bit off of the subject, but I want to know if two types of grenades will be possible:
1: Sticky grenade: Sticks to the first object it comes into contact with, whether it be a character or and entity or a segment etc.
2: Needle Grenade: Is a normal grenade without explosive powder. Instead, it is filled with spring loaded needles that shoot out in every direction.
3: Sticky Needle Grenade: A mix of the two above.

Nope I don't think so, he may be good, but since he's at work more with DBP now I don't think he will try, don't expect too much off him, he's done enough as it is and needs to move on. Besides, the best you could probably get is a source code modification or a decal. But it still wouldn't stick to the enemy.

according to the newsletter, lee said that the 8500 ran a room (no entities, guns, lightmaps etc...) at 42 fps.

the 8800 runs a "room" at 412fps.

when lee tried putting enemies, guns and that lot in the room, using a 8500 card, the framerate was killed instantly :/

so an 8800 is a must i suppose :/ check newsletter 55 (i think) or the latest one if 55 isnt the latest.

Good thing I got myself an 8800 then.
But now my funds are inexistant.. lol.

Anyhow, Lee mentioned something about optimizing the engine for lower-end graphics cards in the newsletter too, so keep them fingers crossed.

I read it as.. "Don't expect this thing to run on an 8500 GPU and look this nice!"

I never buy any graphics card faster than the x600 range, I've got better things to waste money on. With my War MMOG I'm shocked how many people still don't have a shader 2.0 card to run it, never mind shader 4.0 £300 card!

Rick mentioned to me that he was going away for a week when I sent an e-mail regarding the model comp prizes, and that Lee was fully occupied with optimizing and bug-hunting. So, as soon as Rick's got back and Lee's done with the bug-hunting, I guess we'll see another vid.
