Wow, thats a co-incedence... I was actually just about to make a tomb game... Thanks Rick I'll most likely be getting this. And it's really good to see those overlays on the walls too, instead of everything being modeled. This looks like a good pack

I've bought it and here's what I've quickly done with it (screen shot also includes items from Benjamin's Medieval/Fantasy Pack and Cheese Cake's Tomb pack).

Definitely worth every penny!

Actually I think Butter is right. With the massive amount of FPSC noobs, I can definately see a wave of "Tomb Hunter" or "Tomb Master" games.

This happens with every model pack.

I remember when MP4 came out, there was a massive rush in zombie games. Some of them were good, but most were just noobish.

I DO like MP7, for the stock segments are really getting old.

Dark Egypt rocks. Biggest drawback right now is that there are no enemy characters to go along with it. Of course, one could make a WWII setting in Egypt and use those characters. Or the SCI FI characters as aliens that came to earth during the time of the pharaohs. Otherwise we can just do a FP perspective regarding mazes and puzzles and such with other kinds of hazards as we look for what? Gold I suppose or just make up something - yup "Tomb Raider". Also, one could make it into an educational experience. The neat thing is that the design of the levels will be different for each person.

Zavix, I remember those days when I had to limit what I could buy. Waiting sucks - especially when you are excited about something - but the day will come . . .

As opposed to Highlander.

ok, I'm not "bias" against model packs.

All I'm saying is.... after model packs 1 and 2, the number of "bloody bathrooms with zombie doctors lurking inside" was just huge.

Then there was MP4, and litterally loads of zombies are suddenly on the scene. Now there's MP8, I'm guessing there's gonna be shed loads of Egypt games. It's just dissapointing that less people are encouraged to make their own stuff.;

There are a lot of kids that just don't want to create thre own stuff.
They just want to have fun with " easy " game making.
But you are total right about stock media.

Stock media is good for making quick, fun stuff, as OLEG said. But you're right about it being overused in vaporware projects, butters. We need to see some more original media, either completly new or maybe new segments along with some stock entities at least.

Sure, it's always refreshing and exciting to see custom media in levels. That being said, let's not forget the premise of FPSC... the ability to make games with no coding or modeling skills.

It's also interesting to see the work of those who can use the stock media in new and different ways.

Best.

I'm sorry, my answers are limited. You must ask the right question.

True. But I still remember the rush of MP4.

Yes, the purpose of FPSC was to be able to create games without modeling or coding skill. But some noobs overestimate themselves and take advantage of that.

I'd rather see a game with custom media.

I've been in the game dev industry for almost 8 years now, and this rush of noobs and ideas from newly released content always happens.

I remember when C++ was beginning to be tought in high schools, kids immediately thought they could make professional games in just a week. Until they actually saw what they had to do to make a game.

In my educational WWII game (which is not a vapor game). I am using nothing but stock from TGC and a few models from others here and there. This game was only going to be 10 levels but the kids wanted some more "just" shoot em up stuff. So, I am adding levels 11 and 12. Actually this fits right into the game because this is how our hero is going to get out of the the Chateau de Monts Noir. So he has to shoot his way to an airstrip on top of the mountain in those two levels. The reason why I am adding to this debate within this thread of MP8 regarding "stock and custom" is just this: I have found a use for the sand floors from DE and one of the sand traps as well as the a treasure chest. So one does not necessarily have to make a complete Egypt or Tomb raider type game to make use of the models.

The point is -- just have fun doing whatever it takes to create a game. I think that is in agreement with what Xplosys is trying to say.

As opposed to Highlander.

That C++ Nerd,

Please give us a break with the "noob" thing. After you say it so many times it looses meaning, and you begin to loose perceived IQ points.

Best.

Your right. But I think you know why I'm like that about noobs. After reading the threads I posted and after the insults from noobs on these forums, I think you might know why.

There's really two kinds of noobs:

New users who don't know much, and respect veterans who help them.

New users who think they're better than the other new users, and also believe they're better than the veterans.

Both are usually clueless.

That's why I get that way.

Goodness! this is still alive OK well it all comes down to how you use the media not who made it. Look at wizard of id he can make MP 3 (with some slight modifications) look awesome. Anyhow this thread is off topic now,

How do I get the media pack into the program. I ran the application and it looked like it did what it needed to, but when I launch the program none of the items are there. I went into the folder and it made a separate folder for the model packs. What am I doing wrong?

I have to agree.
I am starting to develop the impression that TGC (the fpsc sector, anyway) is focused in purely making money.
They specify in making/buying rights to model packs they know people will buy on a large scale. It seems they dont care of the standard of games as long as they make the money (but lets be honest, who wouldnt?).

I do however feel that they need to dedicate more time to improving current software than focusing on X10. Its the least they could do as a thanks.
Perfect example;

They released the update with dualwield ability the same time MP6 was released. An obvious nessecity. But I have read (Butters can back me up on this - i think i read somewhere he said this) that the effectiveness of Dual wielding is terrible.
Excuse me if i used your name incorrectly, butters.

Anyway, thats me done for now - Sorry.

Dan.

ah well at least they are usually honest I have seen much worse business tactics. Still I agree FPSC games no matter how good they are are very pale in comparison with today's games.

Does anyone know if there will be an upgrade to mp8, with the floor segment problem fixed?

ust asking, cuz I read somewhere that the author was planning to update the pack and provide it for DL through tgc to all registered owners.

Thanks

Yes, there will be another version of Dark Egypt but at the moment (GameCreators very busy) there is a slight issue to be corrected and I am waiting instructions from GameCreators.
I am realy sorry about the delay but myself & GameCreators would like it to be released without it containing any issues.
As soon as I get any news I will Post this Post with what I can tell you.
Again, sorry for the delay.

PS. I am still working on the free Add-on Pack for Dark Egypt which I hope might be ready when Dark Egypt-V2 is released.

Dark Egypt-V2 will be 'free' to all existing Dark Egypt users.

Nickydude
Well Dark Egypt-V2 will mostley be the same as the original apart from some improvements in the way it can be used. Some users were not to happy about the Original version (Floor/ceiling) issues, so I have tried to correct these issues in the best way possible. There is also a PDF document that will also be made available which explains the differences with the new version 2.
I am still waiting to hear from the Gamecreators about it's release at the moment. I'm not sure now if the new version can be run alongside the first (a few problems in that department), so it might mean that the user will have to uninstall the first, in order to run the new version. Until I get any feedback from Gamecreators I am left in the dark as much as you on the subject of its release.

The Add-on Pack will just contain some extra things to add a little bit more of variation to Dark Egypt (both versions). So far the Add-on Pack contains extra Trap Pits, vertical Shafts, lift panels, floors and a comprehensive balcony system for interior & exterior use. Plus a few other bits and bobs at the moment but I do hope to add as much as possible before I release it to Dark Egypt users.
This Add-on Pack will also be 'free'.

I hope this information has helped and I am sorry for the wait.

All the best
Cheers
