i-Tunes I use because I have an iPod, plus I prefer it, but both media players are good - I originally started using iTunes because I found it was a faster and performed better in terms of loading etc. but with Windows Media Player 11, I haven't notice the difference there.

I like iTunes, but I hate how much ram it eats up. But I still use it because I like the way it keeps track of my library. And I've got 2(some odd number)(some odd number) songs to deal with. I'd hate to have to convert it all to the bloated MP3 format when AAC is so small. At least I think it is....

I use both. I ripped my entire CD collection into WMP, so its in a standard non-DRM format that I can play with any player. I've about 8,500 songs in WMP.

I use iTunes to buy stuff I can't get cheap on CD, and have a number of albums in there - but to be honest one of these days I'll just burn them to CD and re-rip into WMP and be done with it.

Considering my media players spend 99% of their time minimised, I really don't care what they look like or what visualisations they have

WinAMP; It's not a resource hog like WMP or iTunes, and you can minimize it so that it sits at the top of your screen out of the way and quickly accessible...

the best yet cheapest tools you can use on your computer are:
mozilla firefox - internet browser
winamp - music player that can play any format meaning its better than itunes and Windows mp.
vlc media player - video player that can play format.
open office - open source version of microsft office.

Then again, WMP can do that as well.

I use windows media player, and I'm fine with it. I really could care less how things look, what cool features it has, etc. If it can play media, then I'm happy with it. Though I am admittedly bias, as I have a policy to have nothing from apple on my computer

Better get rid of the countless features adapted by microsoft into windows.
Office was first on mac as well If i recall.

first personal computer
first color monitor
first Floppy Disk Drive
first speech technology
first animation technology
first plug and play
first laserwriter
first foreign language upport
first color matching screen, scanner, printer
first soundsupport
first sound input
first virtual reality
first 3.5 Disk Drive
first virtual programing / hypercard
first CD-Rom
first Built in Networking

notice how i removed the gui and mouse hence xerox giving them that licence.
what a daft ignorant statement that is.

He's talking about iTunes, which is software. I too don't like installing Apple software in Windows, although I use iTunes at work so I can listen to other people's shares.

Listing Apple hardware innovations, while interesting, is useless in this argument

I see that Microsoft has finally done a good job ripping off Winamp's visualizations in WMP11.

I still prefer Winamp 2.77.
I really don't understand how the shuffle start bug persisted throughout all of the 2.9X versions.

Yeah, Apple likes to say they invented everything, but it's more a sign of their insanely ignorant P.R. department than anything else. Pretty much all technology manufacturers get their ideas from someone else, technology is all dependent on itself, it's always useless bickering over who did what first.

I use iTunes for buying music, then I usually rip them to remove any DRM and move it into my WMP library. Seeing as Apple supports Quicktime, and Quicktime (IMO) is just about the crappiest piece of software to ever enter into existence, I just can't use it with a clear conscience. I used to be into Winamp, but I can't say it hasn't given me a lot of problems. Ever since WMP11, I've been using that.

indi,

Regardless of who invented it, as of right now, putting anything on my computer that is made by apple is foolish. Not only is apple's software terrible(quicktime is a perfect example), but the fact that they try and shove itunes onto my computer when downloading quicktime(which I only got because some movies need it, though I recently fixed that with quicktime alternative) is downright pathetic.

Oh, and can apple get over their "superior" UI and just use the windows interface? Consistincy goes a long way, after all.

I use a windows but got skins and stardock to make it look pretty like a mac Who cares which is better? I speak spanish and English but I mainly prefer to use English because it 'works better for me' It's more compatable with other people (as most people around me speak english) and I understand it more. Saying one os is better than another is like saying english is better than french or spanish is better than german, ect. I think it's pathetic how people get offended when it comes to things like that. It's like the racism of computers lol. So I ask you guys, are you racist?

Okay that's a stretch lol

I should of known, a 'Should I use iTunes or Windows Media Player' thread has turned into a Apple vs Microsoft debate...well done, it's yet another pointless start to an argument. *Claps* I like Apples more, but I don't like to statements like these:

Quote: "that macs are better than PC's!!!"

It's matter of opinion and preference. Linux isn't better, Windows isn't better and MacOS isn't better in objective terms.

And what was this a test over, least amount of software?

Jesting aside, apple is a terrible computer. Why would you buy a computer which you have no control over? Think about it, when the next generation of processors comes out, how will you go about upgrading your mac? You won't, because you'll be stuck with an outdated computer or buying a new one. Thats assuming of course apple builds a new computer with modern processors, because lets not forget how far behind they were adopting Intel.

some os's are better at spasific things. windows has more softwere, but its inposoble to customise[without hacking], and get all the garbige off it. linux is obviously better for web servers, as 70% ish run it, mac's look nicer to some people, and may be easer to use, never used a mac though. windows is probaly the best at crashing!

why not just accept that thay are different, insded of having another argument!

I makes no difference if you use a mac or a PC, it's all down to what you do with it - you can do basically the same things on each.

It's all down to the person in front of the screen...
These days, PC's are not all that upgradable, if your PC is more than a couple of years old your as well building a brand new PC instead of trying to bring it up to date.

As long as your hardware does all that you need it to do then it doesn't matter if it's a mac, a PC, or a bloomin etch-a-sketch. I'd happily code in DOS if it was all there was, hell the entire tracking system in this semi-conductor factory runs in DOS, it works and it hasn't killed anyone yet - all that converting to Windows would do is make it look a bit prettier, and cost us £300,000 or something like that.

The annoying thing is when people praise the mac, or linux, without really knowing why apart from some glittering nugget of irrelevance, like the shape of the mouse. Not meaning anyone here of course, just this one numpty that I work with who's always impressed by the most stupid of glittery things.

We're going down... in a spiral to the ground...

I mainly use iTunes. Cos my iPod uses it. It's ok, and does the job I want. What annoys me though is how everyone banged on about it being great for years and slated Sonic Stage (which I used with my Sony player). I was almost expecting this fantastic bit of software that was truly something else to use. Nope, fairly ordinary if you ask me. Plus what is it about taking bloody ages to start up each time? I mean we are talking about file management software at the end of the day. Sure, it has extra stuff, but does that justify slow startups? Then again who would have thought Office would be the size it is today? (Word is a bloody text editor at the end of the day).

Cheers

Mind you, I've always found media players a bit slow to load up, WMP was the main culprit (and used a little too much of my performance) well that was true up until version 11.

You can, just run Windows under bootcamp.

But really, when you use one OS, you'll have upsides and downsides, if there was an OS that had it all, it would render all of the others obsolete, but as there are Windows lovers, Mac lovers and Linux lovers, it hardly suggests any are the 'best' or the 'elite'. It's like insurance and banking, I'll say HSBC is the uberest bank in the world, but you'll suggest Barclays is better, I'd probably insist the stability of my account, though you'd say 'My Barclays account has this and this, and look my student account has a bigger overdraft' and so on, but I'd decide, I'd prefer HSBC for their good points and you'd prefer Barclays for theirs.
