I'm fed up of using placeholder models from model packs and would like to create my own main character, the problem is that I want to get it perfect. I can use 3ds Max 9 fine, I just wouldn't consider myself an artist, and I need good concept art before I even attempt to model.

So I'm looking for a concept artist among the members of these forums (which I'm sure there are some) to create some concept art for my character.

It will be paid work, but that will have to be decided beforehand because I don't know how much this sort of work usually costs, I'm sure some people on these forums could give me an estimate.

This is not just a request because I can't be bothered to do it myself, I need to make that clear now. I've done my research and collected a series of images that can help towards the final design, I also have a list of details to work by and a simple sketch to help the concept artist with his work.

This is not a team request, just a one off job which I haven't the skill to do, sorry if this still breaches the AUP.

Thanks in advance.

Interesting. I would get this job if I was not so busy and dumb these days

Yes. And do not forget to see some works done by that person to avoid his/her pointless effort and your frustration. For this kind of work, I would charge something between ten and twenty five US dollar.

And I recommend posting this in the BlenderArtists forum or in any other 3D program's forum as well.

In your place, I would rather ask if a friend of mine could do it for me. Full interaction, fun, zero greed and stress.

Thanks for that info, very helpful. I'll post this in the Blender forum as well as you suggested, it probably would get more responses.

None of my friends have the artistic skills to do the sort of work I'm looking for, yet they still think they do.

It's not against the AUP as such, but we tend to not allow team requests. Especially in the cases where you don't have anything to show for your work.

In this case, it's a little difficulty, because you're asking for help to be able to create the work that would normally be shown.

I think we'll let it through, because you have also asked for information on what to charge.

If you could, can you post some of those images that you have collected? Or a screeny of your current game with those place-holder models?

I'd be willing to try my hand at pretty much anything. I'm not the best artist around, but I'm still a good artist. You can contact me with the specifics.

going rate for this sort of thing (assuming you mean you need turn-arounds back-front-side) would be approx. £15($30/€25) / piece for independant developers.. atleast those used to be my rates.

think Titan used to charge a tad more, but then his area of expertise is game concepts.

@Jess T

Thanks a lot. I've attached a screenshot of my game, nothing really special yet but when I get media for a game I work harder on it.

@Raven

Seems like a decent rate, thanks for the info.

@Hobgoblin Lord

Yeah it is a sci-fi soldier sort of character, so you probably wouldn't be interested.

@Dr Manette

Could you show me some of your work please?

@Manic

It's a sci-fi soldier.

EDIT - Just realised the image wasn't attached, there now.

is it only the character you're after, or some of the aliens too?

Only the character at the moment. I'll see about the other characters later, and it's not the basic sci-fi alien shoot-up either, it's going to be hellspawn, the classic doom style but changed a bit.

@Hobgoblin Lord

I've just had another thought. Since I will without doubt be useless drawing my other characters, could you draw the concepts for me? Obviously paid still, and this time they are hellspawn/demons etc. so I think that would come under your category of fantasy.

Tell me what you think

Thanks

Attached is a quick one I just knocked up in pencil. I used to draw this type of thing all the time when I was a kid.
Its not very original and pretty simple in nature but should be suitable for a low poly model with some clever texturing. Feel free to use it if you wish - no charge.

Thanks for that Zappo, I'll probably use that for the other soldiers, it's not quite the style I'm after for the main character though.

Thanks again

Well I can't release the whole story but it's about soldier ending up in hell (I can't say how or why), and then you have to get out by negotiating with a few demons along the way to get out of hell. I got influence from Doom but it's 3rd person and will end up very different hopefully.

Since I will most probably be paying for most of my concept work, does anyone have strong skills in drawing concept weapons? Deimonic weapons they will have to be, and one sci-fi gun.

Thanks

It's ok, I've already written one. This game has been planned out throughly to ensure I get it right.

Then again, It might help if you write a quick one, I may be able to extend the story.

Thanks

I'll see what I can do, have to say making them stand up and still is tough for me though, everything I have ever learned was action but I suppose that would not work well if you want to develop a model from it.

Okay just seen it and going to post a story as soon as possible.
Tell me if you like it!!
Clive Warren was simplistic soldier for the army specialy equipped with a suit by the name of "Nin-7800" he was a elite, knew every enemy in the world until one unfateful day. A mexican by the name of Jin Housta a private who Warren treated like a pile of sandbags.
Jin then looked at the soldier's list a special list with all their details so they could send letters to families maybe call them up. But on this unfateful day they was not in war the war has only just finished...
Jin slaughtered Clive with his Family. Now another war began and another enemy rose up hellspawns the Demonic creatures of the devil. The Soldier Clive Warren was dead and was sent to the depths of hell, he realised that the suit he wore to war was equipped on him to show him that this was war!

Thanks for that Deathhead, I love the idea of a special suit, that could leave room for all kinds of extras.

Thanks again.

very rough draft, before I go forward with the piece, which can be about 9 hours of erasing and touching up , I want you to take a look at the quick mock up and let me know if I should do so. If it's not what you are after i'll do roughs till you find one. I had to scan B&W over grayscale cuz the pencils are really really light at the moment.

That's very good, I think you should stay with the head. Could you slim down the body and make it a more muscular? On the whole though it is extremely good.

Thanks

P.S. Could you e-mail me about the price of this work, thanks again.

Il have a go at the sci fi weapon if you want. I assume you want somthing along the lines of the pulse rifle from Aliens. Big, powerful, looking like it could blow a demonic body part from its desired location.

Not exactly, I was thinking more of a simple blast pistol, something that can't run out of ammunition. You won't be able to find ammo for your guns in hell.

I would make the face slightly thinner and make the torso armour more muscle orientated but i like what you've done with the legs and boots.
But of course vorconan may say different.
