The other problem is that half the time no one bothers to read the entire thread, so the direction of the discussion quickly races in different directions. With both religion and politics there is a lot to talk about. Whereas if I have a specific question "how do I do this in DBP...", it can be addressed quickly and focus can be kept. The direction of the thread is also controlled by the thread creator for the most part as well, which helps keep things cool. I think having a religion board here would only encourage discussion on a topic that does not belong on a programming forum.

I thought that the problem with R debate was when people take sides, so I thought I was OK being against all sides.

A religion board would fall right into another team request board...this is The Game Creators, I still can't figure out why anyone would want to discuss religion/politics in the first place...I guess its just because there are lots of people here to listen.

Is it me, or did we just extend the locked thread into this thread? I don't think this thread is meant to be used as another excuse to tell other people your opinions of religion/politics/ect. Hence, the reason why we shouldn't have discussions about the topics at all. Too many people have strong opinions and end up in shouting matches.

Probably not, as long as it's not something offensive. I won't go into specifics there, but a game with a religious symbol or a person a said religion won't get you locked.

I agree with Chily Dog, people could get talking about anything if you let them, but this is a programming forum.
The Geek World (or whatever its called) forum is good but it should be kept to family safe topics (generally programming or technology based)
sometimes there is just no good place to post something.

Religion is nothing more than a political tool, why don't people realise this?

Ahem...A Buddhist here...there are also Muslims, Christians and Jews here, other religions I don't know. Be careful how you say what you say. I'd discuss this one myself, but I can't. Just watch your steps when delving into the ideas of religion and control, especially on a forum of this size that forbids this type of discussion. There are two extremes, one half I agree with you, the other half I don't.

If someone was posting a religious game or one refers to religion - they'd need to be careful of posting the content and give a warning for downloads, like with anything far too violent or sexual.

Since this board promotes people kind of getting to know eachother, it seems a bit mental you can't talk anything pertaining to politics or religion, since it's interesting to know what other people think about the way the world is run, and whether or not they have imaginary friends.
I'm not too fussed about talking about these things right now, but ideologically, i am opposed to restriction of expression. Was that politics?
On the other hand, these things usually end up in people trolling. See "Cool Guy Jordan". Trolling is fine as long as other people get the joke. Trouble is they don't.

Well I'm off to watch some more Spore design videos. Amazing game. Why is it that the best games are always the ones you learn about 2 years before they come out?

Actually.... the server is probably in the UK... so, I'm pretty sure the Bill o Rights doesn't apply. As for leaving, go ahead. But you will never find another community like this one. Despite our dislikes and arguements, we still end up fine in the end.

I think it is a shame if Jordan gets banned or this thread got locked, we've kind of resolved things now and that wouldn't of happened if it had been locked.
If political or religious threads are locked all you are left with is an argument with no solution.
I believe that Jordan had the right to say what he did but there are consequences too.
