I've always wondered why people use the names they do and whether there's some meaning or origin to them. I suspect some people just use their real names. So... what's the story on your forum name?

My name (Dr. Manette if you didn't see it ) comes two fold. First off, he's a character from Charles Dickens' book A Tale of Two Cities, one of my favorite authors. Also, I frequently pretend to be a doctor, and use the Dr. with my name occasionally.

My name is based on a piece of crappy malware called Gator GAIN that invaded my PC so I put a Hex (Curse) on the company and with every post my Hex gets strong Muhahahaha! I think they changed their name to Claria or something (i wonder if it was to avoid the cures?)

Oh, and it was originally SageTech Administrator, made me sound important

My brother used to harass me by calling me Mr.Dink after the cartoon character on Disney's "Doug". It used to bother me to no end. Then it started growing on me for some reason. It was my first e-mail address, and it's been my forum names ever since.

Yea, I know. I take pretend as far as names go, I don't go around saying I'm a Doctor and giving medical advice.

What's with these odd multicolored smiley face avatars?

Inspire - short for Inspire! Media, my game dev team.

Also, I like that word. I don't know, just reminds me of stuff I like, like the color white, and helping people.

My old forum name here was Stradigos and I pretty much use that name for everything online. Stradigos is a misspelling of someone who is an outer space military genius commander from my favorite book and book series "Enders Game."

My current name, Sid Sinister (flows well don't it ) was the name of a character my friend drew for me at Freedom Academy (a JROTC thing) one year.

My nick has had some thought behind it and i dare say it fits well.

Let me explain, fameous characteristic's of a grandma is: old, married(or atleast was), is female, is often credited to make good food, not a virgin, likes children, thinks gossip is interesting, has limited computer skills, dislikes loud music, sleeps alot, bad memory(that's debatable though), dislikes voilence, talks to their pets thinking the pets understand it, trouble learning new things, not attractive , remember peoples birthdays, looks forward to un-invited guests, gives advice about everything beneath the sky, cares what other people think, and generally opposed to anything fun.

Now i haven't come across a single word that accurately describes me as a person better then an -inverted- meaning of grandma, and besides, it's a semi-cool nick.

Now, greenlig is short for greenlight. No real reason.

A few years ago, my forum name was r_kabouter, which had something to do with my first name, Counter-Strike and RealBot. Someone (I think it was Damokles) pointed out that kabouter meant gnome or somesuch animal, and there was even a song about it. Arkheii is a lexicographical play on the pronunciation of the r_k substring from my previous name.

My friend at school always called me Pincho Paxton. When I asked him why, he said.... "because you had a fight with someone called Pincho Paxton". I had a fight with somebody, but don't know what their name was, but I still don't see why having a fight with somebody gives you their name as your nickname.

Boringly it's my name. Or at least my nickname and the first character of my surname. Fairly easy to work out my proper name if I tell you I would seriously love someone with the same surname as me to be my uncle. Really really love it. Also same reason why I was a bit depressed that I probably wouldn't be that rich in IT because of this guy with the same surname.

Other than that I used my forename backwards on MUDs and use Crivens on several other forums. Crivens is a phrase what some characters from Terry Pratchett's Discworld say.

Cheers

Seppuku - Because Japanese emos are cool...not really, I wanted a name to occompany my games, I previously had Titanium and Omega Games on my 2D projects...but when I came across the word Seppuku it had a sort of dark ring to it that mixes my darker side with my interest in Japanese history and culture and how great Samurai culture was...

(For those who don't know, Seppuku is a Japanese form of ritual suicide the samurai used when they have been disgraced and wish to retain their honour and dignity - they kneel down, stab themselves in the belly and a person of their choice cuts their head off with a Katana as they lean forwards)

Nope and nope. In the UK my nickname is always called Dazza for my forename. Although I am constantly mixed up with Danny, Daniel, and Darryl (think thats how you spell it) at work. Apparently I was named after an italian actor. That seriously won't help you though...

Guess my last name yet?

I'm so old that if I invented a name I'd forget it and respond to my own postings by accusing myself of copying my own ideas, or worse yet by flaming myself for stating a position on which I changed my mind between the time I posted and the time I checked the post. I use my real name because I still remember it, and if I don't it is no problem because I have it written on a piece of masking tape pasted on the bottom of the monitor. Now where was I? Oh yes, actually there are some other folks who use their real name, including a lot of the TGC staff and Cash Curtis.
