First one was good, apart form the CGI beasty at the end. Second one was entertainment, but a fairly shoddy movie. The third one I have yet to see, but I'm sure I will enjoy it as I don't have any expectations. The whole trilogy does not represent good quality film making. It's just melodramatic entertainment. And I'm quite happy to watch it, so long as there are lots of zombies.

I never watched the first two as game-to-movie adaptations, but as just... another zombie flick.

Personally, I've always hated the Resident Evil games, so I've never played them, and as such, have no expectations.
I'm sure it'll be a great movie. Unlike Doom. That movie sucked. Especially the whole 'first person' section!

I liked that movie. Probably because Ive only played resident evil 4. But thats just it, don't think if the movie as being part of the games, because no matter what you wont have an adaptation movie that follows the story of a game or book, unless you want a 20 or so hour movie. I hate it when people get pissed off because the movie that is BASED on a game does not follow the story. Get over it.

Resident Evil: Extinction

By twenty minutes in, everyone is dead, thereby making the human race extinct, and you pay to stare at a blank screen.

First thing to pop into my mind as I read the thread title...

Since the other one was scaring you guys so much...

It cant be "that" bad specially if you compare it with "the house of the dead" (holy crap, that movie was sooo lame and a big shame to the videogame´s world)

I'm sorry, but... duh? Movies based on video games, much like movies based on books, have a tendency to turn out badly. The Resident Evil movies have sucked for a while now, so no big surprise. Its title sure is a clue, isn't it?

Resident Evil: Extinction...
hopefully it's for real!

Uwe Boll! Uwe Boll! We want more Uwe Boll movies! Give me Uwe Boll movies! Uwe Boll makes every game a movie! Uwe Boll! We love Uwe Boll! More Uwe Boll!

Those that do not understand, my hero Uwe Boll made the following movies according to IMDB:

Yes! The mastermovies, top of the bill quality flicks, Bloodrayne, House of the Dead and Postal are his work! Luckily, Far Cry is coming up! I can't wait! Go Uwe Boll!

Especially his autobiography, Fiásko (Fiasco) is briliant. What? It's not an autobiography?

tha_rami, DO NOT EVER mention that man's name on my thread again until
"POSTAL" is out. I gave that fool every chance in the world.. And he still acts like a sociopath of film making. Postal is this dude's last chance. End of debate. Nobody wants FAR CRY made into a movie right now and not by his dull 2D way of directing. I could direct Far Cry or even "Alone in the dark" on half the budget and it would have been almost perfect. DOOM? We will get back to that. The acting for RE3 was great. Parts of the movie were emotionally entertaining. Editing was dog food and but chard to death. Otherwise I give it ** and 2 smiley faces. I added some new footage of the movie were making for direct to DVD for a summer 08 release. Please be sure to check out my site or my tube at: http://www.youtube.com/raymondjackson

Prove it. I'm sure you could, but to say nobody wants this... is pointless, you can't speak for everybody.

Did Uwe Boll post that?If not then that's amazing that there are actually two people in the world who love him.
My brother's 6 month old baby girl could do a better job of directing...if you can even call what he does directing.
I keep thinking if I ever make a movie at the top of the marquee it will say in big, bold letters:

NOT DIRECTED BY UWE BOLL

Seriously, where does he get the money to fund these movies? One bad movie after another...

[ends Uwe Boll rant]

As far as Re:Extinction goes I like the first RE movie if you look at it as a movie and not an adaptation of the video game.
I watched the second one because Milo Jojovich (I think that's how you spell it) is in it and I have a crush on her and I might watch Extinction today or tomorrow if I am lucky.

Please have mercy and use the search function.

the first RE movie was bad enough that it should have prevented 2 sequels. I mean, a zombie film where most of the cast are killed by a corridor? WTF?

I don't have a sig, live with it.

I'm still a little mad at romero for cheating out the rights from the original creator of night of the living dead. Okay he really didn't cheat anything since it was open for grabs as no trademark or copyright wasn't on it but man was that just a dick move.

As far as dawn of the dead goes..the people I saw it with, kinda ruined it for me so I wasn't too pleased to be watching it.

I think he has his own film company that is self financed. And I'm not speaking for everyone. But yes I do tend to blow up when I see people who work hard for there cash get it stolen by goofy nuts like this Boll character. Can you guys even "picture" what RE would have been like if Ewwe Boll had his hands on it? I plan to make Blood 1 and Blood 2 The Choosen into a movie in a few years..Once I obtain the rights and get permission from Monolith. Then I'll show everyone how to make a video game into a perfect movie. Long live George Romero!
Ho and by the way..I'm thinking of going through the FPSC showcase and asking one of you if I could adapt your game into a direct to video, But will see.

I actually like all of the Resident Evil movies so far.
The first one, I thought was awesome.. I mean the whole way the movie is shown, as well as the storyline. It stayed so true to the whole atmosphere of the games, and only giving you information that they felt you needed to know rather than needlessly explaining everything in-depth. On the whole it made the experience awesome.

The second one was basically hollywood, in it's typical "this is a video game so lets take everything from the actual games, mish-mash it all up and somewhere we'll end up with a blockbuster."
It seriously failed to deliver in terms of a good movie, atmosphere or much else really. This said I still liked it, because well it's good because it is stupidly cheesy. That and the ending after that whole nuclear bomb bullpoop, actually got quite good.

I think if they'd bothered to use the same writers as the first film, and not tried to stick so precisely to the games as they did; ya know a bit of real creativity it could've been just as good as the first.

Now for the 3rd one, well about all you need to say is "28 Weeks Later" ... good concept, good predecessor, somewhere along the lines hollywood once again showed why they should leave this stuff to people with creativity and just give them a budget rather than interfering!

(also as far as the Doom movie goes, I loved that too. Although the FPS ending was quite well crap; and felt they just rushed the ending itself. As movies go it was actually pretty cool, and something I have watched a few times now.)

If you want to talk about crap game-to-movies.. really we're talking STREET FIGHTER, Mortal Kombat (pick one, anyone, they all sucked), Super Mario Bros, etc.

Oddly enough, not sure how many have seen it; but I found DoA to be quite a good film. There is another called Dead or Alive (hence why they called the new film based on the xbox game D.O.A.) based on a japanese rpg that is just truely amazing. It's one of those obscure films many have never watched or likely to without actually looking for it.. but it was superb!

Raven... You gĂłt to be kidding. I've tried to look at those movies with 0 expectations and the impression that I was gonna watch mindless entertainment and even under those circumstances I hated them (RE1 was n't really bad or something).

I'm not kidding at all, I enjoyed them.
Guess some people are just too.. erm.. well i can't think of the word, but they're movies that I honestly can't say were actually bad.

They kept me entertained, and were enjoyable. I really can't see why people sit there and bash them so much.

Atleast with Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, or Mario Bros. The acting was just truely awful. That said Mario Bros pulls it off because it's so freaking bad, that you honestly can't take it seriously. It was probably ment to have been, and when it came out yeah I doubt I noticed how crappy it was; but now I appreciate how bad it is.. and well it's still entertaining.

Doom actually was surprising to me, because I actually thought it was a good movie overall. In-fact I thought the storyline was better than any of the damn games by a mile. If it was the Halo movie, then yeah I'd probably not have enjoyed it so much; but it wasn't. It was well put together, and apart from a couple of parts that seemed ropey or even why they hell wasn't it lost on the cutting floor .. it was pretty cool.

Man a movie I just remembered that was freaking awesome based on a game was Silent Hill. It's a MUST WATCH movie.

also, milla jovovich is pronounced milla yovovich
(from the commentary track)

i like all of the RE movies but i do agree that the second wasnt that good, in my opinion it was just a bridge between the first and third (the first is still the best though, but the third movie sure knows how to make you jump, it did for me at least)

also i am a fairly big fan of game-to-movie adaptations, so i dont tend to critique them much (i cant with RE cause i havent played it) and so i just watch them for entertainment value, but still i quite enjoyed DOOM, and i found that the first person section was what sold it as being true gamers movie, no other movie (that i know of) has done this to the extent that DOOM has. it was a bit bad that the story didnt match that of the games, and i think it would have been alot better if it followed the story of DOOM3, as in my opinion it had the most thoroughly explained, intense and addicting plot.

as for FredPs crush on M.J, i would like to say that the man has good taste (and *Possible Spoiler*
)

EDIT: sorry i used the wrong forum code

EDIT EDIT: also you have to admit that earning $24milllion in an opening weekend (US release) is a pretty good acheivement

i must admit although they did ruin theresident evil stlye etc and it was nothing like the games it was a decent movie. it would have been better if it hadnt been branded resident evil.

and yet again someone dies heroicly smoking (this seems to be common in all films nowdays)

but id recommend it just to see hundreds of milla jovovichs at the end worth the wait :p

what do u think the worst film based on a game is??? id say mario :S

For me I have to say that Silent Hill was a pretty damn good movie, and it had a real SH feel to it too - a lot of people probably disregarded that film just because of game -> movie tie ins track history, but it's well worth watching. I think the timing of it was all wrong, release wise I mean - it came out at the same time as what seems like a dozen similar films, half of which also starred Sean Bloody Bean.

Other than that though, they all pretty much suck - scary but the RE movies are probably better examples, because they at least are moderately watchable. I wish they would have followed the games more though, I mean right now the RE movies are in a position where they have nowhere left to go, they've taken it too far down a particular road. If they had followed the games then the next movie could be more like RE4, with lot's of creepy farmer dudes, LOTR style trolls, hell they could even have gotten Hayden Panettiere to play Ashley. Wasted opportunity's if you ask me. The movie after that could follow whatever the plot of RE5 is, but lot's of creepy voodoo zombie types. I mean the RE5 trailer has more cinematic qualities than any of the movies IMO.

It might not seem like it nowadays, but the actual stories in RE games is what keeps us fans happy, the whole plot of the original game for example, with the betrayal, the creepy Wesker, all that stuff would make for a great movie that probably wouldn't cost very much to make but would make fans of RE very happy.

Capcom should make a RE machima program, so people can make their own zombie movies, that'd show Uwe Balls or whatever that gimp is called .

We're going down... in a spiral to the ground...

Yeah, it was, I have played all silent hill games and the atmosphere of the film was exactly the same of the games, also the story of the film complement the games, the pagan religion and that stuff of the film was in the games since silent hill 2, it wasn´t the plot any of the games but they mention it many times.

yeh i agree with you that the silent hill film was good. it even followed a similar plot to the first game. shame they changewd the lead to a woman and the girl from cherry to sharon :s seems like bringing it to the youth of today. although i would like to see a game on resi 2 that would be awesome. resi 2 by far the superior resident evil.
