I actually like all of the Resident Evil movies so far.
The first one, I thought was awesome.. I mean the whole way the movie is shown, as well as the storyline. It stayed so true to the whole atmosphere of the games, and only giving you information that they felt you needed to know rather than needlessly explaining everything in-depth. On the whole it made the experience awesome.
The second one was basically hollywood, in it's typical "this is a video game so lets take everything from the actual games, mish-mash it all up and somewhere we'll end up with a blockbuster."
It seriously failed to deliver in terms of a good movie, atmosphere or much else really. This said I still liked it, because well it's good because it is stupidly cheesy. That and the ending after that whole nuclear bomb bullpoop, actually got quite good.
I think if they'd bothered to use the same writers as the first film, and not tried to stick so precisely to the games as they did; ya know a bit of real creativity it could've been just as good as the first.
Now for the 3rd one, well about all you need to say is "28 Weeks Later" ... good concept, good predecessor, somewhere along the lines hollywood once again showed why they should leave this stuff to people with creativity and just give them a budget rather than interfering!
(also as far as the Doom movie goes, I loved that too. Although the FPS ending was quite well crap; and felt they just rushed the ending itself. As movies go it was actually pretty cool, and something I have watched a few times now.)
If you want to talk about crap game-to-movies.. really we're talking STREET FIGHTER, Mortal Kombat (pick one, anyone, they all sucked), Super Mario Bros, etc.
Oddly enough, not sure how many have seen it; but I found DoA to be quite a good film. There is another called Dead or Alive (hence why they called the new film based on the xbox game D.O.A.) based on a japanese rpg that is just truely amazing. It's one of those obscure films many have never watched or likely to without actually looking for it.. but it was superb!
